Hello Jeri, We have been on a long holiday. much needed, but a little to long for me. So I have begun binge watching, we had no internet while gone. Oh My God.. Jeri, we have the same interests! A really long time ago I had a stenciling business. Love to stencil. garden, write, paint/oils/acrylics/watercolor, walls, floors, anything really, quilt... During the winter I had seen a beautiful quilt in one of your videos and I wondered if you had made it, Of Course. Lol.. How wonderful that you created your own fabric designs, way cool. Chris, Hope you went someplace wonderful! The quilt you saw was not made by me. I used to quilt, and was pretty good at it, but I have too many other interests and the quilting went by the wayside. I do collect quilts made by others, especially very small ones. Doing the fabric lines was a dream come true. I had always wanted to have my own fabric at least once in my life.
Thank you for this very informative video. I live in a 1 bedroom log cabin my husband built 35+ yr. ago. He built me a wool room where I can hook, and I painted the plywood floor. Now I think I need to stencil it !!! Thank you so much for this idea.

Congrats to the winners. Love your stenciled floor. I love color too, I am not sure why the stark grey and white is now termed as farmhouse. All the farm houses I have encountered in my lifetime have been warm, charming, rustic, and colorful. I appreciate the style but I need color.
Sandy, I don't understand that either, the woodwork on fireplace mantles, beadboard and window frames were rarely painted white, but were stained in natural colors or shellacked. They also LOVED patterned wallpapers in the old farmhouses.
I love color and patterns too, I’m not a fan of stark white or what I consider the bland look that is popular in recent years, it looks beautiful in other people’s homes but I prefer the opposite. ♥️

I just received your first and second books. They are so charming and beautiful! Exquisite detail in the illustrations. As a fellow creative I can see all the work and talent that went into your books. You have inspired me to rework an old book that I wrote and illustrated for my youngest daughter, who is now 27. I created it on, what was then, my new Radio Shack Tandy computer and printed it on a snazzy dot matrix printer.... 😆💚💚💚
I'm right there with you on the white rooms. They just look boring to me. I also love fabric prints. So many of the homes I see today don't have a single print fabric. The Wm Morris fabric is beautiful.

Great video. I too love to stencil and I have done some faux painting. Our home we have now was built in 1900, and I have been trying to talk my husband into letting me rip up all the carpet and refinish all the old floors.
Husbands often balk at losing their carpets, but you can convince him that the floor will be wonderful and still have some area rugs for comfort, we do!
I am renovating an old 19th century school house and have been contemplating my choice for flooring! After watching this video, I am going to use plywood and stencil. I will be using a dark hue of sap green as background, and stencil color of burnt red blemished with rusted orange. You have created quite excitement for me and my upcoming project! Thanks.
Dennis, that is great! I always cheer on a renovation; we spent many years restoring this old house from a decrepit wreck to a comfortable and cozy home. We also stenciled over osb board on our kitchen floor, and you would never know it was osb after the paint, stencil and sealer was applied, it looks great. The best to you in your renovation and floor-do!

Penny, in one of my bloopers in doing the video, I spilled nearly a half cup of the stain onto the floor.. I had to scramble pretty darn quickly to wipe it off the floor.
I love all the fabrics that you’re showing and the beautiful stencilling that you’re doing on that furniture piece, the chair is really cute too! Actually one of my favourite patterns is strawberry thief and I became to know it when I worked at a cookware store, we sold some pieces from this pattern and I fell in love with it. Hi I love your blog ,I love your garden and your illustrations and that your animals are pets , when you talked about letting your farm dogs stay in the room over winter ,it worried me because I thought your animals are pets , and as pets they are loved and can be warm inside and are not separated , I know that I am probably worried about nothing , it seems a great room and I like that you are so creative about your home and that everything is thought about to put your stamp on it ,I heard a lady once say she was a creative practitioner, and I like that term , bless you
No need to worry Gwendoline, our farm dogs are well loved, spoiled actually ( they just had scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast!) This room has a doggie door for them. They prefer to be outside nearly all the time, but sometimes in the winter, they like to come inside if it gets really cold. This room is part of the house on the back side, so the dogs are close to us whenever they want to be.
Thanks for replying , that’s great , I knew it would probably be like that, but in New Zealand , “ farm dogs” are kept out side in kennels and not allowed to be in the home with the family , and there are other things too that sadden me, because I love dogs. In America, a farm dog is a dog that takes guardianship over the smaller animals such as the geese, ducks and chickens. All of our animals are free-range; and although they have a big nice barn, they are free to roam the yard and most of the gardens. Our dogs are Great Pyrennes and keep the predators away from our property. Our dogs are a part of the family, for sure.
Oh pyrenees mountain dogs , that makes sense , they will want to be with their furry , feathery family as well taking care of everyone , Have a great day

Wild Woodland, My grown children did not take after me in the color department, and have those neutral shades in every room of the house... makes me want to purchase a crazy quilt for them to hang on the wall!

it's nice 2 c some of yor garden.u've got some gd plants & I like the big statue.then yor garedn rm's already nice as it is.tho i'm worried about the ceiling.i hope it won't cave in on u .:( plus I saw a can of polyurethane on the table.it lked as if the sun was on it.i hope u don't keep it where the sun hits it all day cuz that's not safe.it's neat 2 c yor old sewing machines & other décor in the rm 2.
My Lowes had some huge plants for $7! I grabbed as many as I thought would fit into my house! 😄 I stenciled so many floors in our house...I had black and blue knees for several weeks. I hadn't thought about using stain to antique them though. Will be doing that in my DIY greenhouse made from old windows. So thank you for that tip! 💖 Can't wait to see your completed room!!

Sandra, I've often tried to figure out what my decorating style was, and finally realized that I put rooms together in a very English way; layers of textures, pattern and color, dark and rich woods and distinct sections or partitions even in the smallest of areas. I also think that being artists causes us to crave color and pattern. White is perfect .....for snow.
Yes when l first came here 28 years ago l was very confused as to how to go with decor,We had antiques ,nothing much was new before we came here ,l was sad having to get rid of it all ,We gradually bought at thrift stores yard sales,l found a lovely hutch for sale it was leaning against a wall of a house ,l enquired and bought it cheap,years later l found it was French provincial ,l liked it as it was cream with green trim and l love carved furniture ,l had brought a lovely antique green pitcher over so l had a love of green,My husband was working in a house ,all the workmen were walking over this large Oriental rug with their work boots on ,He ended up buying it from the owner ,it was red patterned ,l wasn’t sure if l wanted red ,But since then lve gone for mostly red s greens as well as a few other colours thrown in ,Like you l didn’t know my style ,l still have a bit of English style but with European and American thrown in , all the things l like !,!.I found your site several weeks ago and have been enjoying seeing your lovely artwork ,gardens and animals,We even get glimpses inside your house which is lovely too, congratulations to the winners x
@@sandraford4235, Yes, I'm sort of a mix of Early America meet Old English Cottage. Maybe its my heritage, which is a whole lotta English and Dutch. Love Tapestry rugs, but also love braided rugs. Red, Yellow and Green are the very best! I have done a video on our bathroom, it is very Green and yellow with many English touches.
I have a lot of little ones running around my house, but I love to sew, paint and create. When you're children were young how did you manage to fit in the creative time?
Probably not because it’s the end of the season and they are bringing in fall plants. Most people do not know they can plant again or after this years failures they do not want to put the effort out.🤷♀️

Randy, I think I'm done stenciling for awhile; the day before I started the garden room floor, I stenciled our entire Kitchen floor so I'm done with it.
You are lucky the plants are pretty nice our Lowes sell dead looking veggie plants....

I've seriously loved his designs for many years, I would love to use his wallpaper, but it is so pricey. I found my fabric on an Ebay search last year.

it's nice 2 c some of yor garden.u've got some gd plants & I like the big statue.then yor garedn rm's already nice as it is.tho i'm worried about the ceiling.i hope it won't cave in on u .:( plus I saw a can of polyurethane on the table.it lked as if the sun was on it.i hope u don't keep it where the sun hits it all day cuz that's not safe.it's neat 2 c yor old sewing machines & other décor in the rm 2.

My Lowes had some huge plants for $7! I grabbed as many as I thought would fit into my house! 😄 I stenciled so many floors in our house...I had black and blue knees for several weeks. I hadn't thought about using stain to antique them though. Will be doing that in my DIY greenhouse made from old windows. So thank you for that tip! 💖 Can't wait to see your completed room!!

Love your materials ,your room will be lovely ,l have all those colours in my house ,l like the white in other people’s homes but it never seems right in mine,l have to have colour,.Im also an artist that maybe why we like to have colour around ,lncidently im English now live in Florida , x
Sandra, I've often tried to figure out what my decorating style was, and finally realized that I put rooms together in a very English way; layers of textures, pattern and color, dark and rich woods and distinct sections or partitions even in the smallest of areas. I also think that being artists causes us to crave color and pattern. White is perfect .....for snow.
Yes when l first came here 28 years ago l was very confused as to how to go with decor,We had antiques ,nothing much was new before we came
here ,l was sad having to get rid of it all ,We gradually bought at thrift stores yard sales,l found a lovely hutch for sale it was leaning against a wall of a house ,l enquired and bought it cheap,years later l found it was French provincial ,l liked it as it was cream with green trim and l love carved furniture ,l had brought a lovely antique green pitcher over so l had a love of green,My husband was working in a house ,all the workmen were walking over this large Oriental rug with their work boots on ,He ended up buying it from the owner ,it was red patterned ,l wasn’t sure if l wanted red ,But since then lve gone for mostly red s greens as well as a few other colours thrown in ,Like you l didn’t know my style ,l still have a bit of English style but with European and American thrown in , all the things l like !,!.I found your site several weeks ago and have been enjoying seeing your lovely artwork ,gardens and animals,We even get glimpses inside your house which is lovely too, congratulations to the winners x
@@sandraford4235, Yes, I'm sort of a mix of Early America meet Old English Cottage. Maybe its my heritage, which is a whole lotta English and Dutch. Love Tapestry rugs, but also love braided rugs. Red, Yellow and Green are the very best! I have done a video on our bathroom, it is very Green and yellow with many English touches.

Holly, you are correct, a stenciled ceiling would be marvelous. We made a faux tin ceiling in our kitchen using embossed wallpaper.

I have a lot of little ones running around my house, but I love to sew, paint and create. When you're children were young how did you manage to fit in the creative time?
I put the kids to work with me. They often helped me with painting picture frames and framing my art. I also did my artwork late at night.

The painting papercuttings are my own artwork, one is a garden piece, the other is songbirds of the garden.
I love stenciling but when I am giving a tutorial I always tell people to tape their stencils.
