    Right rant time. I don't have money coming out off my arse so Sram R came on my Specialized Expert Kenovo. So have run these brakes on non ebike and on the bike, and there very good. I always run sintered avid pads, brilliant. I shim my pads after worn down with alloy shims that are the same shape as the pads to keep contact feel top notch, 0.65mm and 1.20mm. Now I done this with the RSC and now with the R on the codes and then fitted 220mm floating Magura front and back and means if I bend one I still can use the same on the front and use a tempory one on the back. The disc is very good and I made stainless spacers to set the code calipers perfectly parallel to the disc. This setup is perfect for trail braking in the forests I ride and great feel. As if the codes are placed as standard that is where the spongy lack of feel even though plenty off power comes from in my experience and I ride a lot. I like to use what is standard on a bike and if it can't be improved replace. I have now been given a new set off pads from Carbon Loraine VXR and I think these French pads are better in the wet in the UK but will wait on the dry in the summer for a full idea. I raced motocross for 20 years so know what I like and brakes is my personal gripe then suspension which mine has full coil and changed internals as the std wasn't up to the speeds this bike is capable off. The next is replacement of the Specialized seat post as it's crap and fit a 2021 Fox transfer but because of this bloody covid crap no stock in the UK. I have heard the Magura pads ain't great and fall apart but other than that seem good.

      Probably going to get the MT5 too, although I find it stupid that they do not offer the MT5 HC Red outside of the US and expect people to shell out another 50-70 bucks for the one finger lever blades. Still, brakes, adapters, rotors, bleed kit - all significantly cheaper compared to stuff like the RSCs, Dominions or Hopes, saving you literally hundreds of bucks.
      Really shoved the brakes all the way to the end of building this bike, as that and the pedals are the only thing left to make it rideable. Probably the scariest part for me too (at least the hose cutting / potential bleeding).

I have the MT7 on my enduro and DH bikes and they are the best brakes I have run ever. Only slight issue is its almost impossible to lose the minute amount of rub. The plusses.... massive power exceptional modulation and m ost importantly the bite point NEVER wanders unlike saints XT and XTRS (and yes mine have been bled and setup by top shimano team wrenchers and even they say you cant get rid of that with servo wave tech)

  • @Coolcmsc
    @Coolcmsc Před 3 lety +1

    I’m sold on the MT5’s. The ‘room of breaking’ is the key. ‘It scared the shit out of me’ is exactly right, but concerning the saints!. If you really use these brakes correctly - hard and late is correct - then you have to be genuinely skilled to push the saints to the maximum without going over the handle bars. If you aren’t discovering that about the saints, then you are definitely not using them to their full potential. So, for most of us, the MT5 (pots really are virtually the same in use as MT7 ONCE they’re bedded in correctly - perhaps Bruni can tell the difference, but those in this thread are less likely to be able to (to repeat, once bedded in). And as you said, they MUSt be bedded in correctly to get that progression and the aggression in the MT5/MT7.

      Yes, easy. But MUCH more important, once set up with care, they often don’t need bleeding again for several sets of pads.... Sounds unlikely, but often true. And those pads just slot in with the magnets... What’s not to like, especially the cost-effective MT5s 😀

    Can you run the E MT 5 callipers and Lever with the Shimano XT Ice discs or am I better off paying the extra $150 and get the Shimano XT ice 4 pot callipers and levers?

    • @patrickdirtrider5836
      @patrickdirtrider5836 Před 3 lety +1

      You can´t combine Magura callipers with Shimano discs, since the magura discs at 2mm thick and have a wear limit of 1,8mm. The Shimanos start at 1,8mm. So new Shimano discs are already at the wearlimit for Magura callipers.
      But imo there is no need for the ice-tec discs, in our shop we had more problems than wirh them. the mdrp keep everything cool enough

    Gotta say thats not how to bed in your brakes first go out in the back yard and do say 20 noise wheelies down the hill then go wheelie up and down the road from say 25 kph down to stopped say ten times job done brakes ready and way more fun .
