- Crazy Neighbor and I backed up 2 vehicles for camping and hung a tarp between them held on with magnets, well.. haha of course. That's what we do around here. First reasonable weather camping trip of the year, that was a fantastic change from the last few months. The tarp we used was a 20' x 40' and it pretty much covered both vehicles completely, a 20x30 would probably do quite well for the application, however, it was nice to have the windows blocked out. NOT very stealthy, but certainly good camping.

Steve. I’m slowly going blind. From a degenerative cornea disease. Because of that and being 25 I developed depression. It’s hard for me to enjoy things because if this constant reminder. However. I’m so sorry! I had a stroke in my right eye a couple years ago, an ocular occlusion. I have glaucoma. Now with my eye pressure being so hard to control I’ve lost half of my vision in that eye! Music is my best friend also. Steve’s videos just give me a good feeling.

I used a version of this years ago when a Scoutmaster. I used 20 foot lengths of 1" pvc bent over to iron bars driven into ground like an igloo, then cover with long tarp. I could set my tent up under it and have room in front for boys to cook under if rained. Worked great. Good job Steve

Here are a couple of tips when using this camping method: (1) It's not a bad idea to use some protective cargo mats (the type of mat used when carrying a cargo bag on your roof) at the places where your car is supporting the tarp, so that any rubbing caused by the wind won't damage your paint. (2) You can use your tires as additional anchor points for the tarp. When you have your vehicle about where you want it (but before you put on the tarp) lay down short lengths of rope behind each tire, then back up until the tires are resting on each rope. The ropes are now anchored, and you can tie them to the grommets at the edge of the tarp. 😊 (3) It doesn't hurt to carry a couple of tent poles to strategically place either to help with rain run-off or to make an entrance/exit.
Hope these tips prove helpful to anyone wanting to try this method!!

Back in the 90’s my family used to camp at Hanging Rock State Park almost every weekend in a double bed pop-up, my dad towed with his Jeep Wrangler. My father had every color tarp known to man and would take his ropes, and do these elaborate tarp roofs all over the campsite. My mom affectionately called him the “Tarp Man” and it kinda caught on…. I might have to send him the link for this.

I remember going camping one year with my family and some of their friends and it’s POURED but no one wanted to go home so we got the biggest tarp we could find and it covered the entire campsite from end to end. Everyone was leaving because of the rain and stopped to see it. I loved it. We called it tent city, easily my favorite memory
Tent City. My friends and I used to go on big camping trips together and we called the big tarp conglomeration "tent city" too!
I got busted in Phoenix Arizona and stayed in Sheriff Joes Tent City
Tarps and the that repels water is life saver during camping!

Never have I wanted to be part of your stealth camping gang more than as I’m watching this video. I was in a sad place as it’s close to the time my mom died of COVID last year. Actually if the tarp were a tan color (since everything in your surroundings seems to be in varying degrees of a very light brown, with a little green added) and you covered-up the side mirrors with the tarp, it would have made for an excellent stealth shelter, particularly if paying attention to site selection: Inside of the trees, shadow, depending on where the sun is at high noon, etc. Not camouflage. It would have to be specific to that location, and most aren't.
Just speaking as a professional Survivalist, I actually prefer earth-tone tarps to military-style camo nets. Tarps are infinitely more practical with dozens of uses (besides, that set-up of yours with the way you had it, with that open side drawn back down would have actually shielded both of you from thermal imaging!)
One of the things that I always liked about this channel is that it kind of just makes you feel like you can just camp. Like you don't have to have a bunch of crazy expensive stuff if you want to go camping you can just go camping it doesn't take a whole lot that's what I love the most about this.
This was a hysterically creative idea. Two vehicles and a tarp that could have housed a circus. Loved it!!

Used to do something similar to this when I was a kid, my dad and my Grandad both owned a van each and we'd often head out to the country somewhere, park them up beside each other a few meters apart (side doors would be lined up), and then throw a tarp over them just like that, we had multiple entrances with the back doors and front doors of both vans, and a big massive open area between the two of them plus the interior of both vans.
