I Built a Working LEGO Cable Car!

- I design and built a cable car/ropeway out of LEGO Technic and tested it on a 40m zipline cable. It is not technically a Gondola as it isn't a continuous system but a reversible one.
I attempt to make the vehicle go uphill and downhill and utilise traction wheels and guide wheels with a suspended cabin below.

Construction: LEGO Power Functions motors - large x2 and assorted Technic pieces. My own design.

There was a cable car in an old ideas catalogue that changed direction when it hits the end. It did so with a mechanical switch that shifts from one gear to another.
Thanks for the comment! Version 2 perhaps..
It seems Lego company do not like cable car's sets. Not even one serious cable car set has been developed and sold until today. On Lego Ideas website, some times ago a smart guy posted his project about a skilift with automatic return function (skiers slide down and then get up again automatically with the skilift). But Lego rejected this project...what a pity!
Cable cars were one of my favourite things to build, initially prompted by that ideas book with the coat hanger. Across my room and also from upstairs to down in the garden and once I set one up to hang on the telephone lines connected to the house. I found that it's an autism check, all of the autistic people I know (self included) who played with Lego Technic have all made cable cars before, and out of those who aren't autistic but played with Lego Technic haven't (out of the people I have talked about it with openly). It's objectively uninteresting as it moves along a cable but it's so cool that it moves along a cable, it's not trivial to be completely reliable, you can add in height difference, and you can even make the gondola unpowered and have a loop of cable to move it, and if you mess up you can break things so you have to be confident in your abilities, there's a lot to it
Thanks for the comment! They are complex pieces of engineering with a lot of redundancy built in for safety reasons. They are a very economical method of moving large groups of people uphill!
if you made it look like an actual gondola and work like one as well with cars that detach from the main line and move slowly around the station like they do in real life then that would be so neat
You need a treehouse! This can deliver goods to it! "Dad can we have 3 cans of cola"
Thanks for the comment - Yeah a treehouse is in the works!
looks amazing! i love the little ladder that goes up to the top lol
It' amazing 😀😀
Thanks for the comment! I do appreciate the feedback!
I’m wondering if you can make the bottom open up but idk if it would be too much work or too much weight for it too, if you can that would be really cool to see. Also how does this channel not have more subs wtf this is a mechanical genius doing his hardest to impress everyone and knocking these vids out
Ah thanks for the comment! Really appreciate it. I’ll be bringing out regular videos as quick as I can dream them up and make them! I’m pretty sure I’ll have a cable car mk2 somewhere down the line!
Very impressive!
Thanks!
looks really cool
Saved to build this in 10 years with my kids lol
Nice Cable car 👍
Bellissimo complimenti! Hai ottenuto un nuovo iscritto👍
Thank very much! More content to come as I am able!
That’s so cool, I just can’t do that😢
Thanks! I’m lucky I’ve got a zipline to hand!
this is awesome 😊😊
holy shit your garden is massive! In england our gardens are barely big enough for a shed!!
I'm subscribing to you, this is really good content and well made too!
Pretty sure that is England
👍
Pica pica mean like up parts on
Awesome build!
Did you get much wear from the steel cable against the yellow guide rollers?
Not too bad actually - the yellow plastic of Lego is pretty strong! I’m sure long term it would create wear though!
amazing!
Where do you have the wheels from? Im gonna try to build it. Also ist the bricks just some you have collected over the years or is it possible to buy a box full of technic bricks. Thx!
Bricklink website - it’s where I get all my LEGO and Technic parts from!
What are the wheels called?@@BuilditwithBricks
how much weight can you transport ?
kitchen to sun lounger a cold beer ❓
Good idea! A future video perhaps!
Ты топ
Thanks for the comment!
U should make it realistic
Автор этого конструкторского шедевра фуникулер хоть раз в жизни видел? Конструкцию подвеса, приводы и вот это вот всё? Что это за бредятина на веревочке?
