So almost 300hp and you can still get 30mpg on the freeway? Pretty amazing stuff.
What's so amazing about that? Isn't the maxima with a v6 or a charger getting 30+ mpg with 300hp and they are bigger

Every car has its own advantage.
All VW/AUDI have a dead spot in the first inch of pedal travel. LAuch control, done properly, eliminates it.
You should almost start doing lap times with 30mph rolling start as well as the standing start laps
Why didn't Justin use Launch Control? I'm sure if he did he will shave a second or two of his total time... that's why there was turbo lag in the beginning he should of used launch control. Great Video though Loving the R

Every vw has that delay, that's how the tcu is set, there are a bunch of aftermarket bits that eliminate that delay for immediate throttle response.
True ...I just got 2016 golf r a tad bit delay off the line ... But once you get going its a power blowtorch! Odd but fun.
Roman, the very first video that you posted and I watched was back in 2010 or 2011 with the then Golf R. Good to see the new Golf R!

Lol how accurate is a stopwatch app on iphone for measuring times seconds apart...
Are you sure you used Launch Control properly? Throw it into S(port), completely turn of traction control, hold the brake while you floor the gas, then let go of the brake.
If you did that, it shouldn't have had that delay. It launches it so the wheels don't spin, and you get maximum torque/power at the right time.
This will be my next car when my lease ends in the fall! Upgrading from a 2012 gti. Every review says this is a great car; still, I'm impressed it got so close to the Jag and Porsche.

Love the R ... but one test note ... turbocharged cars don't lose nearly the percentage of HP at altitude as normally aspirated cars do.
I have the mk7 gti and would have jumped at the chance to have the R if it was available last summer. Looks so polished and refined.
I did the exact same thing! Luckily it's a lease, going to actually buy the R.
You guys need to paint a new starting/finishing line, because the driver always has to brake before that finishing line you have right now in order to stay on track which is annoying for lap time accuracy.
Delay off the line I bet was just because the auto stop-start feature was still on and not just because didn't use launch control. :)
should use the camera replays as a lap timer. much more accurate no?

João Soares I think it was Turbo lag, not enough RPM to get it working.

Why didn't you use launch control? It's there.
Why didn't he use launch control off the line? The whole point of it is to have instant boost. I think it would have shaved about another second off the lap time.

He did not use the launch control. It is actually described in the manual, so no excuse.
Can someone tell why the Euro spec model redlines at 7500rpm and the U.S spec only go up 6500rpm? Does it hurt performance ?
The indicated redline on the Euro model's tach is 7500, and at 6500 on the U.S. models. Both have an identical engine with very slightly altered tuning for low octane US gas, but they have identical actual redlines as the limiter kicks in around 6800-6900 RPM. So there is no performance loss on the U.S. model, the tach is just marked differently.

I agree with both statements 100%! But I would put another color on a car like this, not silver. Maybe dark blue, it would look awesome.
Nik Brudar It would indeed look very handsome and classically understated in navy blue however, I think that Volkswagen sends many test cars out in silver as silver is Germany's official color when they are represented in racing.

It would look magnificent. Oh, thanks for that piece of information, I didn't know that. But as far as I can see a lot of Volkswagens being tested on different automotive channels are painted red as well. And I hate red on almost every car that doesn't hear by the name Ferrari.

why is it so slow ? reasons. Roman weighs 300lbs so he is like 2 Randy Pobst. Its prob shot in CO where gas is crap - 89 octane and golf r needs 91. Roman is slow as hell with bad reaction time. and yeah being a mile high doesnt help either.
jeff rosenberg good points except reaction time since launch control was used for that 0-60 run. anyway, 5.5s is a wicked fast time all things considered here.
oldtwins we dont know what gas he has. CO has the lowest octane gas I ever saw - they should doc that in there test drives! Altitude will kill your time too and we know these guys test over 5000 feet

WAY CREEPY!.....So I'm watching this video and immediately recognize the test driver Justin Wilson as he walks into frame, but not 100% sure it was him. About a month ago there was a Indy car driver who was in a fatal car accident while racing. I did my research and sure enough, It was indeed Justin Wilson....smh. RIP JUSTIN WILSON

Entertaining. But all the "track time" & "0-60" testing means nothing in the "real world"...driving in suburbia, downtown or country roads. As shown 0-60 times vary so much depending on current conditions (road temp, how high or low you are to sea level, are you on a hill? How seep is the hill? Is the ground flat? Is the pavement smooth? Ambient air temperature? Is there a car in front of you? :)
All these times are good for is entertainment and bragging for car bimbos who buy into this kind of testing. Think it's important.
