  • First off, apologies for the auto focus acting up in this video! Not sure why it was on the fritz but I am a little blurry up close. Eh, I'm better looking this way.
    Onward. Here's the comparison with Purple Hammer vs. NU Blue Hammer! I have SPECTO running so we will look at some of the data on shots and see the graphs. ENJOY!
    With the help of SPECTO data, it'll help tell the story about reaction shape, overall hook and continuation through the pins. Here are the SPECTO data points used and definition of each term:
    Launch Speed - Speed measured off the hand.
    Entry Speed - Speed measured at the pins. (What you'd see on your home center MPH screens)
    Rev Rate - Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)
    Launch Angle - The angle the ball traveled the first 10 feet.
    Break Point Position - Board at which the ball was at its outermost position.
    Total Hook - Total number of boards the ball crosses on the way to the pins.
    Hook Power - Number of boards the ball hooked based on the True Breakpoint.
    Entry Angle - The angle of the ball between 51 and 55 feet.
    Impact Angle - The angle of the ball between 57 and 59.5 feet.
    Pin Deck Exit - Ball position at the end of the pin deck.

    Truly wonderful video comparison. Blue seems very close to Purple, just a tad cleaner.
    Very curious how it will do after it has a bunch of games on it. So don't touch it just like you don't touch your purple and maybe do a follow up video showing how the performance has changed on Blue compared to Purple. Also, thank you for your urethane play teaching comments as well.

    From the videos I've seen of this ball, I agree that it's one everybody should have. One thing I've noticed is a very high carry percentage on pocket hits. Quite remarkable for a ball that's intended to replace a urethane ball. Great work, Hammer!

    Having a urethane going a bit longer isn't necessarily a bad thing. I say that as a rev dominant slower speed bowler that mainly throws urethane. I put polish on my urethane balls so that way they dont burn up and force me left. The smoother surface means i can keep my slow speed and use the smoothness of the urethane, but just keep it further down the lane. I find it very useful.

    Nick, excellent comparison video. I asked a Marketing Director for USBC during the Masters bowling ball inspections. I asked him how does the Softness of the bowling give a PBA Bowler a Competitive Advantage ? Why is the softer ball illegal ? Is the Rule change because of Shaun Rash Complaints ? He had NO Intelligent answer and referred me to their USBC Techs. I think this is all to SELL more Bowling Balls. Paul

    • @Jesusfanatic0711
      @Jesusfanatic0711 Před 8 měsíci

      Simple and short answer. It creates a bigger footprint on the lane make the pattern easier and softer which you find on s typical house shot. Compare it to a deflated football like the Tom Brady incident the softer a ball gets the more of the ball touches the lane almost like a tire flattening it may not seem like much but that’s a huge advantage in ball reaction that no other ball has. By making the rule every ball is equal in its footprint it leaves on the lane and no one gets that advantage .

    • @automatedyoutubetraffic
      @automatedyoutubetraffic Před 8 měsíci

      @@Jesusfanatic0711 I appreciate the explanation but every bowler has access to this bowling ball so it cant be a competitive advantage. So on Long Oil Patterns, a softer ball can still Hook but with more control.

      @@Jesusfanatic0711 The "Tom Brady incident" lol That was a great MARKETING ploy by the NFL. BREAKING news seemed to come out right before every big NBA game. Tommy probably got paid more money by the NFL for that than he got from Sammy Banker Fried!!
      You do realize the officials touch the football between every single play of a game and would easily recognize an underinflated ball!

      @GoldenIncome225 the real answer is money, if every Pro uses the purple hammer all the amateurs will only buy purple hammers. All of the other bowling ball companies will sell less balls. With this rule the Pros will have to use different balls therefore the ball companies will sell more balls.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Yes. Purple Urethane will still be made as-is for time to come. It’s one of these most popular selling ball of all time. Still 100% USBC LEGAL

  • @vance836
    @vance836 Před 8 měsíci

    Hey, Nick! Is there a USBC regulation regarding the amount of plasticizer a ball must have to be considered a reactive ball? Or, do all reactive balls contain the same amount? Ronald Hickland did an oil absorption test on these two balls as well as a Purple Reactive to show the differences between all 3. Is it possible that the amount of plasticizer in the NU is lighter than a typical reactive but obviously more than the truer urethane? Same thought process as the particle balls of the 90s. Some had a lighter load and some had a heavier load. To me, this could explain why the NU still rolls like a urethane but absorbs oil at a much slower rate than a reactive. But I have been wrong before and this is simply just a guess.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  Před 8 měsíci

      For USBC, so long as it doesn’t absorb oil in the standardized test in less than 2 minutes, it’s legal. For PBA, over 45 minutes and it’s considered urethane and must be 78 hardness or above.
