Do you want to see more Korean and Japanese stationery comparisons? If so, give us a like on the video and comment below! We apologize for the confusion over the double post!
Maybe do a show off of interesting fountain pen inks, like the ones that color shift or have unique effects? (The ukiyoe inks come to mind, I think by sailor? I know one, akamidori, is a red green separating one)
I wanna say I really like this style of videos you all make. They're really entertaining and funny at times. I especially love Stephanie's segments because her reaction to stationary is literally me irl.. I just love how this newer style of showing off supplies feels like I'm sitting down with a friend and comparing materials, while the older videos felt more like an infomercial. I mean both are good, but on the older videos I used to just skip to certain segments. But here I feel more engaged to watch all the way through 😁 I hope you make more like these
I dont think japanese stationery is defeatable 😭♥️ it's supreme bruh. The ink flow, the price, the aesthetic, the range of shades and the pigment is unmatchable. It's always been japanese stationery for me. The pilot 0.5 mm nib is so comfortable to write with and I've never experienced any kinda leakage or smudges with it.
I think you’re the winner Josh. You’re so positive and funny! I’m going to give the Olika EF pens a try since I’m a newbie with fountain pens and love color.
Watching this half way and I'm really amazed at the price differences. In Malaysia the Olika is sold for far less than the Preppy - about USD 2.13 instead of Preppy's USD4 (after conversion!). And I've had a lot more inconsistent experiences with the many Olikas (they were my gateway drug into FP along with the Petit) than Preppy!
Once u enter the workforce, 99% of what is worth highlighting is on copy paper. As pointed out in the JetPens pastel highlighter video the Uni-propus are the best for copy paper. They come in 5 pretty colors, which is enough for me. The key things for printed paper are not smearing copy print ink and not being overly inky causing bleed through. Even if I wasn't highlighting copy paper, highlighters like the Zebra mildliner really bother me because of how much bleed through they have for any type of paper. In terms of Korean versus Japanese stationery, not many people remember this, but in the 90s Korean cute, paper stationery was often noticeably nicer than cute, Japanese stationery. The Korean stationery had die-cut edges and embossed, raised texture on a lot of their styles. I really wish I still had some to show people how good it was.
I’m so glad someone’s finally giving me a bit of info on these mildliners! I picked some up out of curiosity because I wanted a grey liner for my artwork and I’ve started collecting them because they work decently well with my Copic markers! If you use a frick ton of water they can be used as a water tint too!
Beautiful presentation, Josh! I'm very tempted to try some fountain pens now. My English teacher in high school graded with V5s so I had those for a while to outline drawings. I have had my 15 count Mildliners since 2019...and they're still going! O_O
I love this video cause I am obsessed with Korean and Japanese stationeries. Spent so much time around Hongdae and Ginza just for these. Studying in the US, I just bought all my stationery from Jetpens!
It really shows that Japanese brands have longer experience than Korean ones. Both are very good but Japanese always just add something special, even a little thing, and extra. I really like Monami ballpoints thou, they have interesting designs and use standard refills. Honestly, there is something really nice about Japanese pens. They are quality like German ones but have extra human touch and thought which most German pens lack.
To me, the winner is always the finest tip with the best writing experience so despite being a hardcore Preppy 02 fan, I'm willing to try the Olika. About the highlighters? The winner is Crayola Supertips: more colors, cheaper and smudges way less than the Mildliners. But if I have to choose between the 2 I would go for the Monami because I have their gel highlighters and really like them.
This video is great, thanks. The Pilot Precise V5 has been my favorite pen for decades & I color code so hands down wins in my book. I've got to go with Preppy. Although trendy 🙄 I have to go with Mildliner. The variety of colors & double side is great.
My opinions: Round 1: Pilot Precise V5 Round 2: Monami Olika Round 3: Zebra Mildliners I think Japanese stationery is the best but Korean stationery is not bad well I think they are second best stationary
For rollerball: If I need a purple pen (I'm a "purple" girl), then it's the Precise. Otherwise, I would go with the Morning Glory (love the name). I'm a sucker for an extra-extra-fine tip! For fountain pens: I'm going with the Monami Olika. Again, the extra-fine tip got to me - & it's smooth too - 💜!! Also, I appreciate the 3 ink cartridges. Highlighter: Mildliners are the champs! Lots of colors and the 3 tips - they're a must-have for any stationery enthusiast.
That was hard! Precise was the clear winner in rollerballs, unsure on fountain pens and mild liners for highlighters, though I liked the essenti styling better.
I have multiples of both the Preppy and the Olika and the Preppys have always written great, even in the extra fine tips while both my Olikas are dry as soon as they stay capped for a few hours. I have to dip them in water to get them writing smoothly again! The only down side to the preppy is that eventually the cap will crack and then it's over. :(
Maybe you could try shaking the inked Monami Olika fountain pen with its cap on. If you see nib creep or little ink marks on the nib slit, then it's a sign that the Olika can write again.😊
I think I just about the only one who hadn't gotten on the Mildliner train. I don't use brush pens so the different tips don't appeal to me and I always found the ink to be way too saturated for a highlighter, so I view them more as markers. Monami on the other hand, is the perfect pastel for a highlighter! I love them so much! The flow is a little dryer but I actually like that because the ink won't pool. Since the performance is so close between these two, I think it will come down to a personal preference for flow, color, and tip styles.
I vote for a part two, but I also vote for letting the real Jugernaut loose. Josh seemed very restrained after I recently binged some of the Josh and Stephanie videos.
You really need to do a Olympics of Pen/Pencils/Writing Instruments/Stationary Categories and have representatives of each country/company/price category compare & contrast: -> Top Companies / Brands: American: - Cross - Paper Mate - Parker - Sharpie - Sheaffer French: - BIC German: - Kaweco - Lamy - Montblanc - Rotring - Stabilo - Staedtler Japanese: - Ohto - Pentel - Pilot - Sakura - Tombow - Uni-Ball - Zebra Swiss: - Caran d'Ache etc. It would be the most epic of Bracket Tournaments for Pens/Pencils/Stationary.
That was really neat video. I have a nostalgia for my very old Sega console games. Street Fighter was one of the first games I've played. Anyway cool show down. I definitely love the fountain pen showdown. Made me a little giddy. 😄👏👏👏👏👏 Rock on! 🤘
My votes are for the Japanese products, pretty much hands down. I will, however, be looking more closely at the Monami highlighter colors more closely!
In my opinion, both the Platinum Preppy and the Monami Olika are great fountain pens for beginners. The price difference is just minimal, but the colors are equally vibrant. By the way, I have a green Monami Olika fine nib fountain pen and I haven't had any regrets at all.😄
The Monami pen is ALSO compatible with standard international cartridges and converters. I'm trying some right now and work alright. So *my personal choice* is Monami fountain pen. Because it writes as good but it's compatible with more stuff.
Yeah. In fact, I have a Monami Olika fountain pen fitted with a Lamy Z27 converter. I think Lamy T10 ink cartridges would also be compatible with the Olika fountain pen.😊
Love you guys... the Pilot wins the first round because of it's click top option... the other 2 were tied imho but i don't care as much about those styles.... a comparison of ultra fine tips would be lovely, thanks!
I always say that the pens that begin with a '''P" are usually my choice but I kinda like some of the non-P I don't mind a little bleed but it does matter where your bleed is. I do go a bit nuts sometime tho. Conclusion for me is that I'm still hooked on "P" but will try new products. I can open some pens I have not used for a while and they write then some just forget to flow after a day or two.
That's weird, in my country the Monami Olika is half the price of the Platinum Preppy, but still carries the 3 cartridges of ink.... The Monami Olika was my gateway into fountain pens though because it was so smooth compared to Pilot Petit1 at the same price and it was months before I ever found a Preppy.
My own ratings: For rollerball pens: Neither. I choose Uni eye/vision pens. But V5s are fine, and I wouldn't mind giving the Morning Glory a try. (But when it comes to Morning Glory, I'm more interested in their sketch pencil-which is basically a flat carpenter's pencil in mechanical form.) For fountain pens: Preppy, because they are eyedropper fillable. Plus, I prefer my pens to have a bit of feedback, rather than be super smooth. And it seems it's exceptionally difficult to change ink colors for the Olika since it uses a porous fiber feed rather than the usual plastic one. For highlighters: Neither, because I don't use highlighters. I did when I was younger because I was told I "had" to for active learning, but it really doesn't do anything for me. I prefer to just take notes in a separate notebook/workbook while I'm reading (if I take notes at all). So on that note, if I absolutely had to, I'd just choose the Essenti since it's cheaper and simpler-unless I had a favorite color that only the Mildliner carried.
I prefer Monami Essenti, Morning glory new rollerball tip, and Olika ergonomic body.. Looks already.. move to Korean stationery.. but Sarasa Vintage haven't got any competitor for me. Once tried another brand.. not achive the same smoothness, grip feeling and visual effect of it. I always get back to Sarasa Vintage. I really wanna see another comparuson review like this. I interested in Iconic and Monami essenti highlighter coz it looks better than mildliner. And I prefer Zebra Sparky or Mojiniline for better no bleed through & smear. Just remember to use hybrid ink, pentel energel, or sarasa mark on when use mildliner. Next eps.. Gel pen, hybrid ink, fineliner, mechanical pencil (japan may still the 1st even better than rotring & staedler for the medium price line), and paper. And sticky note. I used morning glory paper.. they have the lumens index, I have use Kokuyo Campus too which then I prefer Concise Kyokuto or Maruman. Curious to try the whiteline products and Muji. I use their book paper, craft & recycled notes. Note book once.. but the price is up there. Book paper great for oil based & hybrid pen, not all gel pen OK. Sarasa is great with it, but Energel.. noo.. I'll wait for your next video.. Love jetpens channel.
I'm actually surprised because even though JetPens no longer sells Monami Olika fountain pens, I still see them in other online stores such as the Singapore-based Shopee and Lazada.😅🇵🇭🖋️
I feel you. We need pen cases that are like the Tradis for everything. I like having alot of supplies, but trying to explain why I'm packing 5 pen/pencil cases to my family isn't easy. Then again my sister doesn't even want me to take one pencil case and she wonders why I hate traveling with her.
I have been using the Precise V5 pens in purple ink for years. They are my favorite pen. I love needle point pens. I'm not much of a fan of ball point pens.
Unfortunately, no. The body of the Monami Olika fountain pen has little holes at the curved end of its barrel, but if you could seal those holes with an epoxy sealing compound or a special moisture-resistant sealing glue, along with silicone grease (and an O-ring perhaps), then you could convert the Olika into an eyedropper fountain pen.😊
Well, according to the mildliners I just happen to have in front of me, the highlighter bullet tip is "fine" and the brush pen has a bullet tip that is "extra fine." (Insert "more you know" gif here)
Do we really have to choose? I love them all! Let's just have two collections 😀 Until I try them, I just can't decide. Great video though! I live for JetPens' videos. Creative, entertaining and informative 🙌

Yes!!! One question tho…where r the ballpoint and gel pens???
yes, definitely a part 2 !
Yaaas!
Yessss!
Jetpens, you should do a video of the Jetpens team showing what's in their pencil cases!! I would watch that no matter how long the video is!!
Omg!!! I would Love to watch it!♥️
I would 100% watch that!

@@sh-lh5zr yeah! :D

So, according to this video my judgement will be:
Rollerball Pens: Pilot Precise V5
Fountain Pens: Monami Olika
Highlighters: Zebra Mildliner
my opinions are the same!
Agreed. Mildliners need a pastel pink though.
@@lainiwakura1776 i thought they Did tho lol

Its called sheen. Lots of them have it. OS nitrogen, diamine holly comes to mind
If you like that kind of content, highly recommend checking out Goulet Pens!
I have the color shifting/metallic jelly roll pens, they smudge very easily but I still love them
I wanna say I really like this style of videos you all make. They're really entertaining and funny at times. I especially love Stephanie's segments because her reaction to stationary is literally me irl..

Pilot V5, Platinum Preppy, Zebra Mildliner. " If it ain't broke, don't fix it." These pens are classic and highly valued among people like myself.

I bought some rather nice Store brand Korean pencil lead on clearance for 12 cents each. 😀
Japanese stationary FTW. They have been making high quality products for over a century, very thoughtful design and have always been user friendly.
This is as exciting as the olympics Korea vs Japan games 😂😂
"...but sometimes we just like to look at shiny things!" 😁😍🥰

How does the extra-fine line compare between Platinum Preppy and the Olika? I buy Japanese nibs in EF because they are finer than other EF nibs.
My votes are for the Japanese products, pretty much hands down. I will, however, be looking more closely at the Monami highlighter colors more closely!
Cant decide.....But i love Preppy

Do we really have to choose? I love them all! Let's just have two collections 😀 Until I try them, I just can't decide. Great video though! I live for JetPens' videos. Creative, entertaining and informative 🙌
I hope you realise that's what they want you to do. Luring you into buying both! Their goal is to maximise profits.
Hi Josh from Jet Pens!
