Dear TecmathI want you to know how much I appreciate these videos. All my life I've struggled with mathematics at the most basic level. Every teacher I had was too fast for me to process what was going on, and they always made 'concept jump's without explaining how on earth they got there.. In your video here you have the humility and grace to explain things methodically and slowly. It may sound weird but I am touched by your efforts, and extremely grateful. Thanks ever so much for making this hateful stuff understandable to me!

    Each dose is 5ml.
There is 60ml in the bottle.
Therefore there are 60/5 doses in the bottle = 12 doses.
A dose is given every 8 hours.
    Therefore the medicine will last 12 x 8 = 96 hours.
    This is 4 days.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Mister Tecmath,
Wanted to tell you Thank you! I use this video and the IV math video every semester for my nursing classes as a refresher. We have to get a minimum of 9 right out of 10 questions, and we only have 2 tries. If we can't pass the math competency in the beginning of the semester, we can't move forward as a student nurse (I know, a bit harsh and sad!). I have 2 more classes and I wanted to express my gratitude for this video and the other videos. It's simple, easy and GREAT!

  • @tecmath

    20mg/kg means for a mass of 72.2kg, 14440mg is required (i.e. 20mg/kg x 72.2kg).
The stock supplied is 0.9g/ml. Note because this units is in GRAMS per ml, we need to the 14400mg worked out earlier also into grams, so therefore
    the stock required is 14400mg = 14.4g
    Use the formula,
    14.4g divided by 0.9g/ml = 16g required.
The 12 hour part appears to be irrelevant. If (and only if) the stock was in a g/ml/day this'd change the answer slightly.
    I'm sticking with 16g required.
    Hope this helps.
