  • Studio visit with Buqaqawuli Nobakada for I AM & … NOTHING ELSE; an exhibition in celebration of International Women’s month featuring five visionary female artists from Nigeria and South Africa. The exhibition draws inspiration from the book “Women who Run with the Wolves: Myths and stories of the Wild Woman Archetype'' by psychoanalyst, author, and poet Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
“I am really tired of everything surrounding african women to be in the context of struggle. My work in the exhibition speaks to the conversation around black women, unapologetically being.”
    - Buqaqawuli Nobakada
Buqaqawuli Nobakada celebrates women for simply being, to challenge the notion that women have to be strong. Instead, the lace serves as a metaphor of the delicacy, beauty and complexity of herself and the women she is surrounded by.
Buqaqawuli Nobakada is an emerging contemporary mixed media artist born in the Western Cape, South Africa. Nobakada is currently in her 3rd year of Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her primary medium is acrylic paint on laced paper, often with the use of custom clay or gold jewelry. She has exhibited in the “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” Open City group exhibition by FNB Art Johannesburg and the SOMA exhibition in France.
    Opening Date: 20th March 2022
    Time: 2:00 pm
📍1-7 Muri Okunola St, Victoria Island 101241, Lagos, Nigeria
