During the early 70’s while I was a young sailor, I was fishing for sea run cutthroat trout from a secluded beach near the north end of Whidbey Island in Washington State. The beach was actually located on the eastern side of the Naval Sea Plane Base and was a wonderful place to catch salmon, various trout species and for digging butter clams. As I made my first cast a huge Grey Whale surfaced about 40 yards from shore. A magnificent creature!
He remained in the area for about 30 mins. All I could do was watch in awe. Alone ……No cell phone, no camera or any other technology to get in the way of that very special moment. Didn’t catch any fish that day…..didn’t need to. Thanked God and went home to share my experience with my wife.

I have heard of the Atlantic grey whales and that they went extinct in the 18th, but i have heard of grey whales being sighted in the North Atlantic so they might be a few animals that have survived being more out to the open ocean or the climate changed and pacific grey whales are coming in to the Atlantic ocean because of less ice, but that is Just a theroey.

I've heard that too. The Atlantic Gray Whale was hunted to extinction by the early 1800s, but in recent years, there have been some isolated sightings again. Presumably from them migrating from the Pacific.
