Static Gold Ft. Mike Clay - Uptown Funk (Bruno Mars)

Static Gold play a Bruno Mars cover at La Sala Rossa during the Montreal Funk & Soul Festival.
The union of the core members of the band Static Gold is
a testament to how Montreal brings people together in such
a unique way.
Samuel Chaco Kohn (Keys), Daniel Pombo (guitar) and
Zaya Solange (vocals) all come from different parts of the
world, respectively hailing from France/Sweden, Colombia
and Haiti/US. They met while contributing to a musical
project known as Galvao, which became a vital part of
Montreal student nightlife.
During that period they grew and developed a mutual
bond which ultimately led them to form Static Gold,
teaming up with talented musicians Louis Souverain
(drums), Thomas Viardot (bass) and Beth Mckenna (tenor
sax, flute, clarinet). Their diverse ethnic and musical
backgrounds have infused their sound with elements of jazz,
funk and soul wrapped up in a familiar pop format which
the band calls Funkadelic Swing.
This unique style, combined with the pleasure of bringing
people together through music, has led Static Gold to play in
both smaller and bigger Montreal venues, from Les Bobards
to Le National and Club Soda.
The band’s fan base is constantly growing. Its support
played a significant role in the recording of the band’s debut
album “Speaking Easy”, as fans raised the funds necessary
to make it possible through a Kickstarter campaign.
Thanks to this community, Static Gold had the pleasure
of professionally recording their first record with the help
of sound engineer George Doxas. For its debut album, the
band collaborated with a quartet of talented jazz musicians
from the McGill Schulich School of Music: Christopher
Vincent (Trombone), Kaz Takasugi (Trumpet), Chris
Maskell (Alto Sax), and Michael Hsu (Violin).
Static Gold is now striving to take its communal vibe
and energy throughout Canada and beyond, as its fans
around the globe anticipate the band’s arrival.
