In this episode, we install the GM Led Perimeter bed lights on my 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 GM Part number 84861986 This kit will also work on the 2023 GMC Canyons as well!
I just installed my set after watching your video, I didn't have to depin or anything to get the harness through that tight spot. If you put the red part of the clip facing up and stick it between the two plastic tube like pieces that hold the plastic rails down it will go in. It takes a little bit of pushing and wiggling but it fits perfect and looks much cleaner :)
Thank you so much for this video!!! I dremmeled out just a little material to run the lights into the access hole that was too small. This was so much better than your option as it hid the wires better.
In order to get them through the intended port hole, you have to decouple the clip from the top of the pin with a small flathead (careful not to break it off), then remove the red slider piece. Once the red slider has been removed from the clip, you can get it through there and then reassemble on the other side.
@@brianfredricks9234 if you Google De pin molex there are tons of videos. It took me forever to figure it out but once I did one wire it was very easy for the other 5. Make sure you take a picture so you rewire in the correct order. Lesson learned the hard way. Harbor freight sells de pinner or you can use a thin paper clip. The clip you have to lift to pull the wire has to lift just a hair and the wire comes right out. Takes some patience getting the first one. However worth it. The finished product is much cleaner running the wire properly.
Thanks for the video! Very informative. I imagine using that side grommet hole to route the wiring won't look very nice if you have a spray-in bedliner. If the wires don't release easily from the clip I would almost be inclined to cut the wire, run down through the intended hole, then splice back up with waterproof wire nuts/connectors, tape up real good and tie wrap to the harness underneath.
Can you release the wires from the connector then then reinstall the connector from underneaths once you pass it through the bed sidewall? Typically those connectors are pretty easy to release the wires. I ordered this kit and will try to do this on my install.
There are instructions for this if you have access to the GM service information page. Not sure who gets access to that. But they have an entire accessories installation section
You may be able to de-pin the connector and send the wires and loom over the bed corner where you thought it should go. Re-attach the wires and plug it in.
The bed lights look good! I wonder if the Trail Boss can be fitted with the factory 120v outlet in the bed 🤔.. Like, if it’s pre-wired for it behind the blank cover lol.
In order to get the plug down without cutting your grommet you will need to disconnect the plug and it will slide in. Your video was very informative but you can unplug the connector to slide down the correct area
Is this kit backward compatible with the second gen Colorado? I have a 2020 and would like to have lights that turn on by touching the lights like these do.
I am attempting to install bed lights in my 2023 Colorado Z71 with a switch, utilizing the plug that you are using. Although I am using the oem pigtail to connect the rocker switch. I tested and had power to the switch and after soldering my connections, no power. Do you know the fuse location? Thank You, You do an excellent job with your videos.
You gotta get rid of that plastic bed liner, it will rust your bed in a few years,,, I payed 450 at dealer and got a lifetime warranty on my sprayed in liner,,it will look so much cleaner without everything sliding around too!
I CAN ADD TO YOUR VIDEO HERE>>> no need to remove the brake light at the rear right... just look under the light and you will see the lead that you talk about..

Exactly what I did

How did you detach the coupler?
@@brianfredricks9234 you have to pop it off with on the sides where it's clipped over the tabs. Use a small flathead and pop one side, then the other.
Very helpful, thanks!
Video?
Love your videos.
Keep up the good work on the Colorado content.
I hope you will add a 12v outlet next to the USB ports in front of the shifter. Great video.
Nice! Thanks!
Great video
Thx !!! 🎉
I have a spray in bed liner thankfully
Just did the lights on my truck. I ended up de-pinning the moles connector and reconnecting. Clean easy install.
How did you depin it?

I'm guessing it's pretty easy to depin the connector. You could also use a step bit and drill a hole big enough and just add a grommet
You can can plug in hole I did it its easy put red part of clip on top and push hard
You can make the connectors fit easily by filing off the tops of the red tabs. They still work just fine.

Good vid! Do u have a link where u purchased? Thx!
Great video........I want to install the power outlet in the bed, mine didnt come with it. But cant seem to find the gm part number or kit.
Do these shut off after a while, or will they run down the battery if you forget to turn them off?

How did you de pin it?
Can you control the lights via the infotainment screen?

I mean I doubt they have the 400W inverter behind there
Will these bed lights come on when you open the doors automatically or do you have to get out and manually touch them?

Can you control the light from inside the cab ?

Can you install some Ditch lights next?? Would be awesome.
Will this lighting system work for a 2022 Canyon?
You just need to Dremel out about 1/16” of an inch and they will fit down where they should
May you please show us to do a tail gate LED light strip for the 2023 Colorado/Canyon?
🤙
Anyone know if these will work and be plug/play on older colorados? 2021
Instead of having a plastic bedliner, just get some paintable bedliner and do it yourself. Super easy to do and feels the same as a spray-in.
Or pay 450 and get it done right with a lifetime warranty!
@@jimmycline4778 either paint it on yourself or get it factory
didnt know they has the drop in bed liners i thought they were all spray in. is that a 23 or a 14

Does the bed have to ne open ror tnem to turn on? I'm pressing mine and they don't turn on
not sure I wouldn't think so. you do have to touch the light for 2 sec before it turns on.
@@imfixitalex oh ok. Thanks for the response! Great vid!

If you have a drop in bed liner, the best thing you can do is remove it. Absolute worst thing you can do to a pickup bed.
Should have cut the wire beore the clip, ran the wire through the hole you cant see it in, then re attached the the clip
Those lights don't seem very bright
They are really bright at night
