Never tire of hearing a Royal Guard yell "Get off the reins!" into the face of a thickheaded, scuzzy tourist.

Its so disgusting to me how some people treat the guards and their horses like they're some sort of photo prop. These are REAL people and the Guards are high ranking soldiers, so are the horses. They are just doing their job and deserve more respect.

It’s like grabbing the leash of someone’s dog. When you grab the leash of somebody’s dog, you’re taking control of them.
I don't think I have ever witness so many people with no common sense, no courtesy or respect. Then they look so shocked when the guard has to tell them what is already written on the big sign.

I suspect many of the tourists can't read the sign - they might know some English, but 'reins'? Or haven't seen the sign.
But I don't think that makes it excusable. The reins are clearly the guard's, just as one doesn't touch the wheel of the taxi driver.
Unfortunately, I think there are some who see the sign and deliberately try to find out what will happen if they DO touch the reins. Like a dare.

This makes me angry. Why there are some people with this incredible urge to touch everything? And why would you want to pose for a picture holding the reins of a horse you're not even riding? I can't imagine the level of stress these horses face everyday. I don't understand why these tourists are even allowed to be so close, some of them seem to be intentionally trying to hold the reins as some sort of smart ass move.

The guests should follow the written signs but otherwise yes this is indeed a theme park. The soldiers are dressed as such.

How do I know it's a theme park? Because of the access given to the tourists. You won't find this access at a place of business like say, the Pentagon.

Well, I would agree with you if they were not part of the show. As you know, one of the reasons for visiting London is to see them. I don’t believe the soldiers are happy being on duty there.
Having said that, I agree with you about some stupid morons not respecting the soldiers, either of them, as the horse is a soldier too.
My point is, as much as tourist are purposely allowed near the guards, there should be a stronger presence of foot police, specially with so many tourist gathering around at the same time.
This serves no other purpose than decoration for some hugely expensive monarchy. These are not real soldiers(even though they have been trained as such) and this is basically englisch mickey mouse.
One thing i would agree on is this is indeed a horse.

The Kings Guard is not a bloody tourist attraction. People need to understand these horsemen are a highly trained soldiers. It astounds me how many people ignore the sign, especially morons who put their fingers near the horses mouth.

They were not developed to entertain tourists. Tourists are privileged to be allowed into the Kings Guard world. So stupidity is acceptable as todays norm then.

People today have a mindset where they think there not to be told what to do.
At this point, they unfortunately know what they are signing up for. They know they are going to deal with the entitled jackasses out there. They choose to serve their country in a very honorable way anyway. Says a lot about them as both soilders and humans that they can ignore stupidity and focus on their jobs.
Grabbing those reigns is equivalent to someone grabbing your steering wheel while fying down the highway bc some, if not most of those horses weight 1/2 ton or more! That's the only control the guard has over their horse to prevent them from harming RUDE ppl! When did others stop educating themselves on proper etiquette before visiting a foreign land?! It's YOUR responsibility to know what's offensive to others when a guest in their country, territory, etc. Those soldiers really do have the patience of saints!

Thank you for this. As a former dog owner, I was irritated, how strange people patted my dog on the head, something he was clearly uncomfortable with. Kids were more open to lecturing them, that dogs don’t like that much being patted on the head, but neck scratches are cool. They followed that pretty fast, and seemed to enjoy both.
There is a sign near one arch. The other arch just says the horse may kick or bite. There needs to be one at each arch.

The tourists are so obnoxious, do you think that the guards will get to the point where they put up a wire fencing or something in a semi-circle around the horses that prevents the tourists from getting right up to the horses?

I have never seen so many dumb people in all my life. I have ridden and had horses in my younger years and would never grab the reigns of another rider. Also dont put your hands near an unknown horses mouth. Never hang around the rear of any horse unless you are experienced. This is an accident waiting to happen.

I was taught from a young age, if you ever put your hand near a horse, and other animals, it's always closed fingers and flat hand, and move slowly, the same when passing them food. Some just don't have a clue!

In the 15 months spent in Afghanistan, met a couple of UK troopers, who did ceremonial duty like this, so yes they are actual soldiers and was told all of them are experienced professional soldiers. Many especially the palace or queens guards are from elite units in the British military. Funny thing was they always said (amongst themselves in privater of course, that they all wanted to beat the crap out of these people) So they are normal dudes like everyone else.

I just watched a woman poke that horse in its eyes. you’re going to have to Do something before someone really hurts one of those horses. There are some really mean people out there.

Right, the reason was that nobody realized it happened, the lady didnt, the guard didnt see from his angle, only the poor horse knew. The crowd? Why would they care?
It's really unfair of people to go up and touch the horses like this in the first place, but that eye poke really annoyed me. Horses are incredibly intelligent creatures and usually don't do well around any number of people, let alone crowds of shouting/screaming people with traffic etc. all going on in the background.
It's obvious that the horses have been very well trained to withstand that kind of environment and sensory overload, but that doesn't mean it's not incredibly uncomfortable for the horse. People have 0 consideration for the actual animal itself, and the body language of the horse is very clearly, at times, saying "get out of my personal space right now"
No one should be able to touch the horses, its not a petting zoo, and unless everyone is respectable, move on!

That's true. I've also seen a clip where a little toddler girl proferred a letter to the mounted Guard. He transferred his sword to his left (reins-holding) hand so he could reach down and take the letter. He read it and smiled and nodded at her before tucking it into his saddle and resumed his sword-on-guard position. Priceless.......

This reaffirms my disdain and utter contempt for the general population. I've always been a kind hearted person but as I get older and witness the sheer arrogance and disrespect of the vast majority of the populace, I now only value the very few with any self-respect or honor.
We also need guard dogs with a sign that says "beware, the dogs will bite and maul. Thank you!"

The reins control the horse, therefore don’t touch them. These guards and their horses are not tourist attractions. When they’re not on guard rotation they’re active, fighting soldiers.
It’s also dangerous to grab the reins as it may hurt the horse.

It should be made a rule that no one should be allowed to touch the horse, the reins or the guard; they should be told they have to leave if they do
There are people that didn’t know the rules; they learned their lesson: Always check the rules of the places you’re going to/you are at. But there are other people that intentionally decide not to follow the rules, people that are irresponsible, stubborn, ill-mannered, disrespectful, and behave like spoiled brats; they were taught a much needed lesson. Kudos to the Queen’s/King’s guard!!!!!
People don't seem to know that these mounted guards are NOT just ceremonial. Thay are highly trained, Mounted WARRIORS.
I do think that the police officers should be closer to the front to warn tourists that these are all working soldiers. They are not to be grabbed at as if they are mannequins
Love watching these "tourists" getting yelled at, by professional horsemen/women doing their jobs. Then they're so shocked, stunned and dismayed or laugh about it after. l know how entitled a minority of the world thinks they are today, but actually it is a privilege to be able to do this.
There needs to be a sign saying “This is a British military zone” and not to touch the soldiers and that you will be arrested because people think it’s a joke and actually want to here the soldiers shouting as they think it’s funny. It’s a clear lack of respect and if you did it in another country you would be arrested.

I do not know how in the world they and their leaders can put up with the amount of rudeness and disrespect of these HORRIBLE tourists!!!
