Had my first episode last December. Not exactly sure what caused it. Could've had a lot to do with being so Isolated for so many months with work, the amount of sleep I got, stress with money and probably much more. I broke into a reality where I thought I was both the Devil and God. I quit my job on a whim. Because and I quote "I felt unclean working there" thinking back on it all fills me with embarrassment. I began following my feelings. Showing up to peoples houses unannounced and almost stalking people because I thought they were talking to me. Like telepathy. I was soo sure of it all.... I was in this waking dream for 4 months maybe longer. It still feels like I'm in it but I no longer feel as if I'm the devil or God. It just feels like a shadow of guilt following me around.

I had a marijuana-induced psychosis when I was 18. I stopped smoking cold turkey after that, haven’t smoke since. I’m 23 now, still terrified of developing the disorder.

what was it like? idk if i have it a just had a lil scare like a saw faces n likes and my voices in my head talked to be a few times, been looking it up for a long ass time and every psychosis story is way more dramatic and crazy but idk it just felt so realish and concerning for just a min. weird bc i smoke all the time

    • @TheRareCriticalThinker
      @TheRareCriticalThinker Před 2 lety +3

@@kalahnii I feel that! The stories I read are all like "he believed he could fly and then jumped off a building" or "the government is spying on me." For me, I had disorganized thinking and sometimes it felt like the thoughts weren't my own. Like I had voices in my head but I didn't audibly hear them, they were just in my head. But I had insight that something was wrong. Although the scariest thing was not being able to distinguish my dreams from reality.

@@TheRareCriticalThinker I just had my first episode a few days ago. Same cause. I highly doubt that i have schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder, so it’s a bit confusing. But I relate to what you said.. about not being able to distinguish dreams from reality. It was absolutely terrifying. Just awful. I was also convinced that I was dying. I don’t see how that could just come out of nowhere.

Hi Lilly, thank you for sharing your son's experience with us. If you're based in Australia, speaking with a GP about this is the best place to start.
A local GP can assist with getting access to either a state based specialist mental health service or referrals to a psychiatrist who can assist with his ongoing care and medication management. A GP can also assist by providing a mental health care plan for access to a psychologist who can offer counselling and assistance with strategies.
Your son is also able to seek support by calling the Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 or by contacting eheadspace for free online counselling. You can find out more about eheaspace here: headspace.org.au/eheadspace
It is often very difficult for parents, family members and care givers to be supporting a loved one with mental ill-health. It is important to get support and look after yourself as well.
Lifeline provide support by phone (13 11 14) 24 hours a day. There is more information available here: www.lifeline.org.au/get-help/get-help-home.
If the situation becomes an emergency, please call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.
      Best wishes, Orygen

@Stacy Suinn There is a link between high levels of stress and psychosis, and caffeine was found to correlate with hallucination proneness. The combination of caffeine and stress affect the likelihood of an individual experiencing a psychosis-like symptom.”

It's not just young people, my mum 73yrs, had stress, went to her doctor & they gave her an inhaler & CT scan for her breathing & disregarding her stress & actually added to her stress. My mam started going crackers for the 1st time in her life.
Seemed to have a breakdown so was took to hospital & was diagnosed with water infection & delerium, after 11 days my mam was discharged by a kidney Doctor, was ment to be seen by the psychiatric doctor before discharged but they didn't come that day, my mam was discharged back to our family and wasn't right, started with psycotic episodes, seizures & we were not coping,
I tried PLT ( psychiatric liason team) no help.
Crisis team, again no help!! ,
Hospital medical ward she came from, again didn't want to know!!!,
Her GP, he referred her to a memory team but would be 2 weeks before seen, she had no follow up call from the hospital, no help at all, no care package in place & 5 days after being discharged she wrote a suicide note & swallowed a corrosive substance which put her in intensive care at hospital.
My mum died 7 days later & I'm heartbroken, 2 months ago my mum seemed fine, no mental health & she was able bodied to go shopping, watch kids & clean her home, now she's had her Cremation I need all the answers on why she was discharged without an assessment,
PLT, Crisis team, ward, Dr's.... all passed the book, no home care package, nothing!!!
I'm grieving now, it's been 2 months since my mum went into the Gp's with stress & from there on its been totally medical negligence & funeral was 4 days ago

Psychiatric Drugs can actually cause long term 'mental illness' (if not used very carefully) - due to their long term withdrawal syndromes, which have the same appearance as 'mental Illness'.
