    Came across your channel and ended up watching all the videos over a week. Brings back fond memories as I was in the roofing industry all my working life and did a lot of lead work, old school bossing not burning although I did get into it for a few years around London before moving overseas where there was not much call for lead work. All ways wanted to see my career out on the lead but that didn’t happen.
    Keep up the good work it’s nice to see with the progression of phones as it was photos in my day 😂. And we mortared our flashings not use silicone.
    I can see your confidence shining through 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

      Thank you so much for watching all my videos. And I’m glad it’s brought back some good memories for you.
      I really enjoy bossing but things always seem to be cut and welded for speed these days. Although I always boss my roll ends as it looks so much better like that.
      Also I wish the flashings were still mortared I’m not a fan of using silicone at all. I end up getting covered 🤦🏻‍♂️😂.

    Very neat as usual. Not a fan of lead dormer cheeks though. Functional yes. Decorative no. Just a big grey flat area. I like tiled dormer cheeks. Adds a bit of colour to those mock slates that are monochrome and boring in themselves. Coloured ridge, hips and matching tile cheeks. Sets the roof off nice. And then lead the roof of the dormer. While you are battling snow, rain and cold. I was fencing the other day in 38C heat. Hand digging post holes. Both uncomfortable. But I don't miss the cold.

    Looks good just want to know why you bring the front pc around the corner on top of the sides instead of the sides on top of the front?just thinking from a roofers standpoint..and do you caulk that seam or how does it stay there

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Před rokem

      Thank you. I bring the front jamb around the side one because it looks better. And two this is the correct method as displayed in the LDA book. The jamb is fixed on the inside edge where it turns into the window opening. The welt will also keep this in place whilst still
      Allowing the lead to move.

      I would say it’s good practise now to vent all dormer cheeks as most dormers are heavily insulated.

    • @Elites-asthetic
      @Elites-asthetic Před rokem

      Not all roofers do this it’s a lead man that comes in ! The only reason is A roofer does stacks , saddles, valleys on price work …. Day rate different story. It could get sorted
      But like I say , price work it wouldn’t get taken on

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Před rokem +1

      To be honest I think it always looks better when’s it’s left to us lead guys who just specialise in lead work as we do it on a daily basis. And a good roofer will always be busy with the tiling/slating side of things.

    • @grantconnor2664
      @grantconnor2664 Před rokem

      @Sean W As a roofer on a medium size firm if and when a lead dormer comes up we'd all be fight over who gets to do it same with trays, stacks valleys etc, thought this was grunt work for a lead man.

    • @grantconnor2664
      @grantconnor2664 Před rokem

      @@slbleadworks every fellow roofer I know would jump at the opportunity to do this kind of leadwork most of us hate slating and tiling by the 5th year imo I know I do 👌🤣
