The short answer to their lore is that they are guys from dark futures who suddenly find themselves in the past and so now seek better paths. I don't think they were pointed out like Luxiem was in their MV but the group are:
    Sonny Brisko (Officer/Yellow)
    Uki Violeta (Psychic/Purple)
    Alban Knox (Phantom Thief/Orange)
    Yugo Asuma (DJ/Blue)
    Fulgur Ovid (Cyborg/Red)
Like with Lazulight and Obsydia, Noctyx form a mirrored pair with Luxiem. Light boys from the past and dark boys from the future. The two groups also have corresponding colors that tie each other in interesting ways:
Yellow: Sonny and Luca - Officer and Mafia - crime related.
Purple: Uki and Shu - Psychic and Sorcerer - humans with special gifts.
Orange: Alban and Mysta - Phantom Thief and Detective - more crime but also some mystery.
Blue: Yugo and Ike - DJ and Novelist - creative types.
Red: Fulgur and Vox - Cyborg and Demon - not quite human, and both have cool voices.

Add on to that their personalities either mirror each other or differ from each other.
Sonny is a hard working sweet guy while Luca is a sweet and friendly guy though he blames himself harshly when he makes a mistake.
Uki has a soft voice and is very artistic while Shu is not the loudest but not the quietest and is quite technical hence his nickname Shu-port.
Alban can be an idiot at times but is also a massive troll while Mysta is the biggest idiot of the group and says some cursed stuff but he means well.
Yugo has the most effeminate voice of the guy at least when singing and is very motivated to learn which can be seen from his Minecraft streams while Ike is the quote unquote nerd of Luxium and is passionate about what he likes.
Fulgur likes to be seen as cool but can come off as a dork he also is quite friendly when he wants to while Vox is the deepest voiced guy he can also be a dork and like ribbing people especially Reimu.

Yugos voice is freaking insane, his first karaoke was some of the best singing you can find in any karaoke, and from some stuff he said himself, he didn't go through normal channels but got scouted instead.

I like to think that the "goodbye my friend" line had something to do with the Abyss they were stuck in, as if a symbolism for their past that made them who they are today

    That was partially intentional,
The character is supposed to be emotionless,
But he also said this wasn't his forte.

Aaah I see! Well I understand both those avenues, sometimes stylistically having no emotion is cool, but maybe he needs more practice too. Either way I look forward to what’s next for the group!

Your critic towards Sonny doing the opening could be in part that he isn't formally trained at singing and he even forgot how to do his rap parts of the songs since he didnt practice singing for a while. Lately, Yugo, who has experience with singing, has been giving the Nijilivers voice training. Sonny was in one of them and has done some of the vocal exercises.

While usually the writing in Nijisanji doesn't appeal to me, I HARD disagree on your take of the writing here. I think this is one of the best songs written for a Nijisanji Debut. From the beginning I'll explain some key things.
While they probably don't have much experience rapping I'm pretty sure being deadpan without much emotion in the beginning is intentional. They are cold and in a bad place so there is not much emotion. It starts with them fantasizing about being out of the abyss.
"imma be free without care in my mind because im livin the life that I want"
    "imma be running my kingdom"
Notice the wording, its not "I AM." Its them speaking about the future from the bottom.
"stuck in the dark, but I gotta heart even when imma be freezing"
This can be taken two ways. The character Alban was poor and a thief. He was treated badly by others and resorted to stealing for him and other kids like him. So basically saying "even though I'm in a bad place, I will still be kind to others" kind of thing. It also could just be taken as being at the bottom of the abyss but your heart is still beating so you can still get out.
Short thing here in the pre-chorus. "But for now I'm running on my own road, Tachi domara zu ni susumou" Which translates to "Lets just keep moving" Which is important.
"The darkness in my soul the darkness in my eyes, I use it all as energy to fuel my mind"
Could be referencing his character, his original song talks about how he was treated badly until a star fell into his eye and psychic energy.
"im lost in my thoughts and, I'm spitting and releasing all my toxins"
I think you got carried away with the plane symbolism. My take is that they are finally getting out of the abyss and fending for themselves. The plane symbolizes rising and the toxins are symbolic to fending for yourself. Could also be perceived as weapons or ammo. (Note: chemical warfare is a thing. Not saying this is what they are referencing but if you wanted a connection to the plane line, they usually drop toxic chemicals from planes during chemical warfare.)
After that verse you can see that the writing changed slightly. Instead of being hopeless at the bottom they start being hopeful because they are close to getting out.
"in the cold but don't feel it anymore, cuz I know there's light waiting at the door"
"I'm stuck but I'm still headin' for the light I'll never fold, And now I feel invincible and take over the world"
At this point they are no longer scared of the dark (The abyss/whatever bad situation they are in) and are confident in getting out.
Before the beat breakdown Sonny says "Tsuite koi yo" which roughly translates to "You gotta follow me"
"I feel the light hidden behind me
I'm never gonna let it go
I feel the colors now combining
I'm never gonna let it go"
They can finally feel the light as they are climbing out of the abyss. Its also using imagery here, as in a dark pit everything is dark, there's no light refracting meaning there's no color.
"So in the end we'll find our home
And what we were destined for
Goodbye my friend, the light has come
I'm never gonna let it go"
Here they are finally out of the abyss and searching for a place they belong in society. They are saying goodbye to all the bad stuff that haunted them in the past and now that they "see the light" they will never let themselves return to the bottom. Also its using a bit of irony here, they are saying goodbye to their past as they head to a new future BUT their characters are time travelers from the future who all went through portals and got trapped in the past. I like this part alot.
The whole song is supposed to be a journey from the bottom to the top while starting to get yourself out from whatever situation you're in. Its a motivational/inspirational song in disguise and I feel as though its genius without many people realizing. Thats all for now.

Oh right, and I think why they are so emotionless at first like sonny, alban too I feel, it because they are talking when they are in the abbys witch is no hope. Like bubbling yourself hoping something better but not actually hoping for it because that's too impossible. Yo you can feel sad but it's no hope so emotionless is perfect actually. That's buid the song i think.

I like your analysis of the lyrics! Honestly, for me the appeal of the Nijisanji debut songs definitely isn't the writing, some of it seems quite nonsensical to me, but the songs usually fit the wave/group they represent really well!
By the way, my recommendation on getting a bit more into nijisanji if you don't have THAT much time is watching collabs with lots of the members, these usually showcase their personalities and relationships really well and are a lot of fun!
If he is part of it, I recommend checking out Shu's perspective. He's usually a bit quiet in collabs, but actually really funny and attentive to what's going on, even writing secret messages to his chat on screen without the others noticing. Of course everyone's perspective has merits but I prefer watching the quieter people because you notice the loud ones (like Luca, Vox or Reimu) either way, usually!

Huh, interesting take on the Toxins part, i initially read it as:
Because they were in a cockpit, toxins could relate to like releasing their weapons/ammo - specially since the sub-theme of stuck in the abyss seems to be about being on the hunt.

Both Alban and Uki are orphans (Uki's parents don't count they sold him off) and Alban lived on the streets for most of his life before joking Noctyx Uki also didn't really have home and instead lived in a lab before escaping and being chosen by a star.
Fulgar 's lore is a lie no one really knows what it is but he does have a comic about it.
Yugo was stuck in a world controlled by robots and couldnt play his music or be himself probably.
Sonny is an officer who I think wasn't able to connect with people or something. He went after virtual crimes.

  • @evapunk333

I really think you overanalyze the lyrics a bit much lol. There is a slight disconnect sometimes because a lot of the times with Nijisanji, the writers are not native English speakers (it's never written by the group that sings it) so it occasionally comes off a little strange in terms of structure or choice of words. But, as some of the comments have already said some of it does tie to their lore.
Glad you did at least like some of their singing! Really, only Yugo (blue) and Uki (purple) are professional singers, the others just have fairly decent voices.
