A set of off-road tyres and some weight in the tray might have though. Regardless, the Toyota will still be going strong in 10 years while the VW will have become someone's money pit or a source of iron for the plants where it was dumped.

Maybe a more fair fight would be Hilux vs Amarok. They are in the same class. Also note, that the Amarok has road tires while cruiser has off road tires. Dont get me wrong I personally am a Toyota fan but you cant bring a knife to a gunfight. Compare class to class.

As someone who works day in and day out on 79's, I can guarantee you, you are very VERY wrong. I would never wish one on my worst enemy.
There are so many better options than a 79 mate. They chew fuel, very basic features, not luxurious, and where I’m from cost around $80000.
