  • This video is the second of two videos created for the Solidworks BIM Content Creation Tips & Tricks blog post (Link below). A large number of Building Products Manufacturers around the world are Solidworks users. With increasing demands being put on them to deliver BIM content for their customers, Scott thought he'd share some of his knowledge obtained working for an Autodesk reseller in New Zealand. This video covers exporting the CAD model of a Methven faucet/mixer via IFC and SAT using Solidworks 2016. Then viewing the results in Autodesk Revit 2016 & ArchiCAD 19.

Currently Export to AEC under Tools in SW gives a possibility to export SAT and REVIT file, this could be worth for an update video.

Hi Scott, i'm trying to export an assembly from SolidWorks to Revit, but i need to know which are the components of the assembly and the configurations of these components ? Can you tell me if it's possible or not?

I don't think I can help you based on the information you've provided here. This question might be better suited to the Solidworks forums?

+Scott Moyse the thing is that i made an assembly with SolidWorks and i'd like to export it to use it with Revit and i need to see the components of this assembly and their configuration

+Olivier Papin ok then you need to make sure you don't merge bodies when you simplify in Solidworks. so far as the configuration is concerned, if you want to duplicate Solidworks configuration behaviour in Revit. Then you can't via any form of export. You will have to build a Revit Family file. Where are you based in the world?

I've already tried to export my assembly to IFC file but when i open it with Revit it's one big block and i can't see any property or component of the assembly. I'm based in France right now

Olivier Papin make sure the bodies aren't merged in swx before exporting as IFC
