Yes indeed, but it's coming from more than just jazz; Ginger was well-schooled in African rhythms, drummed with the likes of Nigerian legend Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì & others, Ginger was true fusion before the term was coined. His 4-limb independence was astounding, also his stamina & perseverance.
They're envious and clueless. Ginger could go with a precise military style , or shift smoothly into a more "organic" , primal mode -always calling , or responding to the other instruments in the arrangement. Ginger is to our generation what gene Krupa & Max Roach were, respectively to the WWII and post war Bop periods.
Some materials were released in Jonas Hellborg's album [E] (1993), which is recorded with Jens and Anders Johansson. [Anschluss] became [Dog Bar-B-Q], and [Oh Me Arm] became [JB]. [You want me to] is actually [Zakir] by John McLaughlin.
Saw a concert of this tour in Graz/Austria, must have been a few days before or after this Budapest show was recorded. Brings back some great memories. R.I.P., Mr. Baker!
13:25 this song has amazing hi hat work! subtle yet powerful playing from mr. baker. truly, the only drummer i can think is comparable would be tony williams. they both came from jazz backgrounds but opted for seven piece kits (tony had an 3 floor toms whereas baker had the second bass drum) and a hard hitting approach to the drums, yet still swung like mad.
This performance needs to be cleaned up, remastered, put on DVD, an streamed.. Sounds good as it is, BUT!! More could be done.. This dinosaur(me) would buy a DVD if it ever came to pass.. What an unknown kick ass performance..
When Cream split, I think Ginger went on a world tour and picked up all the drum rythems there were, he took his drum kit with him and went in to the jungles of Africa and the planes of the Serengettie and such playing drums and learning other rythems as well, I think he was away for a good 5 years, not to sure abouth that though.
When Cream split, Ginger made sure to be part of Eric's next band, Blind Faith, much to Eric's bewilderment. When Blind Faith imploded, Ginger got Steve Winwood and Ric Grech to come along to his African inspired "super group" Ginger Baker's Airforce. When that was over, after a couple of years, that's when Ginger went to Nigeria and elsewhere, on and off for the rest of his days.
Ginger was a better player than Moonie but not Bonham. Bonham looked up to Ginger, ginger was self-righteous and full of pride. Both are perhaps the greatest drummers in rock. RIP to all three.
Yes, it's called Unseen Rain, at Day Eight Music 1992. Also, Hellborg has just released a new CD (2023) with Baker on drums and Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic) on keys, it's called The Concert of Europe
It's different than a rock gig. Audience is more focused on the players than trying to cause a distraction themselves. I saw John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu with Jonas on bass (1984) and that's how the crowd was, highly attentive, fixated during the performances and then saving the applause until after.
What a load of shite listen to Crossroads and I'm so glad live versions. The best rock blues improvisation ever recorded. Ginger didn't just play drum solos he played musical melodies on the drums. No one plays like him
i looked at your videos, and YOU are an average drummer in every sense of the word. stewart copeland, nick mason, and a litany of other famous drummers are not going to be rhapsodizing about YOU.
This is some of the best playing I've ever heard Ginger do....
Wonderful group performance here with Ginger Baker absolutely killing It front and center!
DRUMMER! Is how he wanted to be remembered ( and he was a great one with a style all his OWN!)
Drummer with jazz in their blood can produce sounds on higher levels than others. Baker is great!
Right

Baker played great here.
I dig the way Ginger always gives credit to the rest of the band at the end. Look at that smile too 56:18. So passionate
G.Baker forever !! R.I.P. Ginger... Eckhard B. from DE
Ginger's double bass work with this performance is lovely.. 🤘🏻👍🏻😁
when i think that some idiots say that Mr Baker is a bad drummer! He's my hero for ever…!It's because of him that i start playing drums!
Amen
Right !
Those people think a drum stick is what is served on Thanksgiving.

Who says he’s a bad drummer?
I've always loved the extra heavy duty stands he uses for all the splashes he rarely hits! LEGEND!!!
Ginger Baker, RIP legend...
and Ol' mate dropped a stick in Sunshine of your love, still a stellar performance from the man
Ginger is just kicking ass with this performance!! I love it!
This is definitely some of the best playing I ever heard Ginger do. That high hat in "you want me to" still gives me chills
It's like his hi-hat is singing its own song! "You want me to" still brings me to tears after 5+ years of hearing it
THE Internet must be thank's for these memory
Every band needs a great drummer.
well...yeah.
Awesome playing ginger
Ginger in his element with jazz grooves.
That kit sound absolutely great & Mr. Baker your rudiments around these drum are spectacular.
Ginger the greatest
cool - they break into "Sunshine of Your Love" at the end!
That has to be one of gingers best...its not human!!!
R.I.P Ginger...
This is just fucking amazing. I love the way they did sunshine of your love. RIP Ginger & Jack
His greatest drumming
I found this by the rabbit hole. Great great drumming by Mr. Baker.
Thx for posting it!

Ferenc Szalma what is the name of the album?
It was not released on album. Only the concert was recorded by the Hungarian television channel.
"Pakt" is Alamout from the 1990 disc Middle Passage.
Saw a concert of this tour in Graz/Austria, must have been a few days before or after this Budapest show was recorded. Brings back some great memories. R.I.P., Mr. Baker!
This is really nice, svo glöð music, Í just enjoy it
I was at this gig! Also had to full concert on a cassette tape...
unfortunately ginger baker died two days ago ! RIP . I loved him very much GELU BATIR from Romania oct the 9th 2019

Absolutely. I've heard this gig over 25 times and every time Ginger's hi-hat grooves and cymbals get me
My favorite drummer since 66, Ginger formed and was in more super groups than anyone!
Damn right!
EXCELLENT!
Wow Baker's got it goin on!
37:38 fantastic synth solo by Maestro Jens Johansson.🎹👑
Thnx 4 the upload
Thal Johnson on synth..? That's definitely Jens Johansson!
Precious! Thanks for uploading. Jonas and Ginger are two of my favorite musicians.
Having a smoke while drumming. So old school 😂👍👍
this is close to when "middle passage" came out by Ginger, Jonas is at the top of his game, and about to collaborate withShawn Lane......awsome
How this only has 574 likes is a mystery.
And 47k views after 11 years. Slept on musicians fur sure
thank you for uploading. greetings from switzerland..:-)
RIP Ginger
Voodoo shit by Baker … mesmerizing
RIGHT-ON!!
Yes baker is still alive. He was touring up to Feb. 2016 but had some heart issues.
To paraphrase Ginger: It's not how fast you play; it's what you *say*.
Obviously, he had much to say.
At his best!

A brilliant Ginger Baker. It should also be noted that he was at an advanced age here and his lifestyle was not exactly healthy.
This performance needs to be cleaned up, remastered, put on DVD, an streamed..

He knew a lot about ethnic drumming before he traveled to Africa. It just broadened the experience, I think.
best drummer ever !!!

THNX!! "BATSHIT"? So am I!! Great Drummer, (Goes Without SAYING!! It's called MUSIC!!)
You can always feel it with, Ginger.
Ginger is a God from the Drummer. Kofi Baker hoffentlich auch
The best ever,,,too high the level of ginger for a confrontation with moon or bonham,,,you cant compare two little childs with a man
Ginger was a better player than Moonie but not Bonham. Bonham looked up to Ginger, ginger was self-righteous and full of pride. Both are perhaps the greatest drummers in rock. RIP to all three.
18:00 early version of Dog Bar-B-Q
Ginger at his best!Even better than in Cream times! When you see him now!it's a pity!Time was not kind to him!Sad!
Pierre Petry when you wrote this he was almost 80 years old. Your brain has not been kind to you, sad!
Really !
Shawn Lane would have made a very nice addition to the group.
Say what you will, but he did not phone it in.
Jesus using a SM58 to mic your snare..Wow
29:25 The Great Festival of Destruction
No mention of who's on keyboards, other than an almost indecipherable mention by Ginger at the end.
It should be Jens Johansson
@@emreozdemir3164 Thanks!
Amazing, is there a cd of this?
Many thanks
Hungarian radio recorded it but I don’t think a cd was released.

Nice jazz/ funk. White boys can jump!
Please can you tell me the title ot song beginning at 13.28 i have this live recorded in track ....
It was presented like "You Want Me"
Super human, Sounding like 2, maybe at times 3, good drummers playing in unison.
Yes he's a JAZZ drummer not a rock dude
I think those millennial’s were sleeping

Even with a best recording equipment his drumming sounds crappy
Drum disaster. He’s overplaying and not in a fast clean time. Ginger is always this slow, behind the time thing. Works in rock, but not in jazz
Crap record...goes no where....bakers always on.
Average drummer in every sense of the word but he was at the right place at the right time ...below average
Obviously you're a troll or extremely ignorant. Ginger could play the bollocks off any drummer
Fucking right!
What a load of shite listen to Crossroads and I'm so glad live versions. The best rock blues improvisation ever recorded. Ginger didn't just play drum solos he played musical melodies on the drums. No one plays like him
