I had one when I was 16. Gold quilt top. I remember my mom used to give 3 or 4 dollars a day for lunch. I didn’t eat lunch for 6 months to help pay for it. I ordered it and it took like 9 or 10 months to get it. I’ll never forget opening the case and seeing for the first time. Great guitar. Thanks for sharing Marty.
I remember lusting after these at the local guitar shop when they first hit. They always had at least 5 or 6 of them on the wall. It was my "Red Ryder" BB gun. I eventually got one in 1994. Amber quilt. I think it was $1300 with the tax if memory serves. The guy cut me a deal. I have the receipt somewhere. Still have the guitar. I even got Eddie to play it once in 1995. I can't imagine ever selling it, but who knows.
I received one for college graduation in 1996. Best guitar ever, it has so much tone, feel and the quality of wood is amazing. I do not car what anyone says, it shits on the Peavey and Fender.

Thanks Jimmy, I love to share and engage with the community. I really felt these guitars were a fresh and new start for EVH. It opened my eyes to some new tones. It was an inspiring time.
I had a reverse evolution with Ed's guitars. I fell in love with the MM. There was something about it. I could just stare at them for hours at the time. They were beautiful. I stupidly thought of Ed's striped guitars as silly junkers. That began to change in the mid to late 90s for me. Now, I worship those original striped guitars and wonder why he ever ditched them. His signature guitars are beautiful. But man, those striped guitars are COOL.
The EVH Music Man and the proceeding Axis model are some of my favorite guitars ever made. They have been featured on countless albums and tours throughout my career. Plays like Butter and because it's not floating it is easy maintenance. Good job Marty!
Fantastic as usual Marty. I love these guitars and this era of 90's Van Halen. Some of his best tones in my opinion too. Always wanted one since they were launched and wish I got one years ago. Finally have a '94 Amber now but paid mega money as only bought it last year after selling my amber 2000 EBMM Axis to help fund it. Keep on making these videos please 🙏 🎸 🤘
Lovely guitar man. I lusted after this and the Lukather EBMM's when I was a kid looking at the old paper brochure. I purchased the latest Luke (liii 2020) last year and absolutely love it. See these pop up for sale now and again, I think my wife would kill me if I got one though! Making do with a Japanese EVH Wolfgang for the time being, which to be fair, is a cracking guitar

Hell-Yeah, I’ve been a fan of Music-Man guitars for quite awhile!!! Obviously, EVH designed this style early on & stuck with it-only tweaking the details to make it better along the way!!! The feel of the Neck on these guitars is absolutely killer!!! Cool-Vid🎶☮️🎶

Beautiful guitar, I remember seeing the video pound cake and wanting that guitar so bad then when runaround came out and seeing the double neck was just jaw dropping lol. Never got one but did get the Wolfgang in the early 2000’s.
Eddie was an innovative guy first with these and then the Wolfgang series and again w the 5150 peavey amps,then just 5150 made by fender amps and cannot forget the mxr pedals he had,everytime I hit the phase pedal on the pedalboard eddie comes out,he made the phase 90 very popular,I have the joyo phase at half the price but it sounds like the real deal,one knob is all it takes, RIP guitar god..
that joyo is like a phase45. i hv a kmise but they are the same circit. got a mxr but i keep the kmise around. still hv the kmise analog delay on my board.
Wow, thanks for sharing this awesome instrument ! I remember when they came out and I wanted one so and drove 100 miles to try one out . It was the blue one and that was color I thought I should have. I don’t know how I ever thought I would afford it with a young family but I thought it would happen somehow ? Well, I couldn’t afford one then…and now I really can’t 😅. I have a couple nice Wolfgang’s and a Franky now and I really enjoy them. That said, I think the woods they chose and the workmanship on the EBMM and the fact that they were the first EVH guitars built, they have a high end quality to them…yours just sounds more “solid” than what they make today ? If that makes sense ?
You’re welcome! I found a red one on Craigslist I got in 1992 for a steal and then snagged this one about 2014 for just over 2K on eBay. I had recently gotten rid of a few guitars and bought this one. So glad I did. They have increased in value a lot. Who knows if that will change or if they will drop again. Great tone and build on these. 😎
I was tempted to buy one of the "new" ones and it just didn't seem to matter to me. Same sort of but not really. Perhaps a correct one will come my way some day.
These were so distinct looking and although I don't think they are that pretty, they're pretty because they are so different than any other guitar, if that makes sense.

I drooled over this for ten years; even would go to the hot dog place in Chicago (Demon Dogs) to drool more where an autographed version was hanging on the wall ; and finally got one in 2001. The lefty version (axis super sport) unfortunately doesn’t come with a Floyd. Re-fretted last summer with steel frets : an excellent investment.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker The thing is, when Eddie introduced the guitar it looked “bland” to me - just for an hour or two. Afterwards it started looking simple and elegant like Apple computer designs. Eddie was such a creative guy: he went from Frankenstrat to streamlined, and it’s all good.
I can't believe it doesn't come with the Floyd Rose on it! How can that be? Is it because it's a left-handed guitar? I just thought the Floyd was an absolute standard spec? But I guess not! Alright time for a uncle Robbie story.......when I was in high school I jammed with a guy that just wasn't very good he brought a guy named Jeff to his house one night to jam he played Takin care of buissiness alot he loved the sound of my superlead with the Paul I had at the time he asked me over to his house in Jackson New Jersey we jammed 3 or 4 times I told him he would never make it in music playing that weird out of key stuff although he did start practicing obsessively after that I still don't know if I inspired him or just missed the boat his name was Jeff Weidlant he changed it later to Zakk Wilde
Hey I didn't know he was going to be absolutely great with Ozzie but I could play too never really had to work at it and he just loved whole Lotta love I actually showed him that he also played the rhythm correctly for rock and roll putting in the 4 extra bars at the beginning and doing the stop no one seemed able to play that right and it was frustrating he had all the basics even back then
Are you familiar with Sterling by Music Man? I'm wondering if they are to Ernie Ball, as what Epiphone is to Gibson, or Squier is to Fender, if you will.
One more question...does the high E slip off the fret board,is it to close to the edge?the axis seems to have a wider neck to correct that issue the evh had...if it was such an issue that is.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I bought an ESP EC256 LTD. It's a nice axe when everything is set right. But the action and intonation change with the weather. Literally. I'm constantly tightening or loosening the truss on it depending on.humidity. I never thought it would have that much of an effect on a guitar. Never had that problem before and never heard of anyone having it. I had my eyes on a beauty Carvin, but it wasn't cheap. I think I'll start saving again and give the ESP to someone that doesn't have disposition issues. Lol
@@siggyretburns7523 man me too! I recently had to adjust this music man. Probably 2-4 times a year I adjust all my guitars truss rods. They raise and lower a lot in TN. I use a humidifier too! I picked up my pink player strat a couple days ago and all the strings are buzzing on the frets. I have to loosen the truss rod on that one now. Just out of the blue. Lol
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Well. I must confess. The ESP doesn't have a case, and it stays in my truck so when I'm not din anything, I'm practicing. I'm kinda getting what I deserve. Someday before I kick the bucket, I will make my own all aluminum ( or 95% or so) guitar. Fingerboard will be teak though. And some insulations to kill the buzz. It's gonna be bad ass with the right weight, balance and comfort. Aluminum sucks at holding a shine, but I'm not one for appearance anyways. I do want a nice shape to it though. I'm trying to figure how I could blend the metallic look without having to polish constantly. Steampunk kinda maybe.
Marty5150 - great sound here. What are you using for an amp/modeler? I have one of these guitars I purchased new in 1993 in mint condition as well. Great playing guitars even if a bit uncomfortable. I broke mine out for a VH Solo video a few weeks ago and was in awe of how easy this plays. I had not played it in a couple of years at this point.
