      Steven Garcia do you know what the word "modification" means?

    • @steevieg
      @steevieg Před 7 lety +20

      jrizpeace there is a huge difference between settings in your car vs car modifications. I think it's you that doesn't know what a car modification is.

    • @jrizpeace
      @jrizpeace Před 7 lety +3

      Steven Garcia Please explain the difference for us who are not as enlightened as you.

    • @steevieg
      @steevieg Před 7 lety +5

      settings in your car: turning off hill assist, changing your stereo settings, setting the date/time on the clock
      car modification: adding a spoiler, adding mudflaps, replacing stereo head unit, installing new wheels, installing an intake
      if you need further explanation, a modification changes the car. turning off hill assist is a built in feature of the car, as is changing the sound settings.
      trunk rattle fix is the only actual mod really, but I've never had that issue with my 15 limited wrx

      That is correct. Both of the dashboard tweeters and the 6.5"s in the front and rear doors. It is well worth doing since Subaru wants stupid money for the upgraded system. Look up "Marcel Kinard" on CZcams. He has an excellent guide on how to do this.

      @magicmark101 Před 7 lety

      +matt karwacki I already know this is going to be a waste of time but let me help you out. Hill assist activates even when the road is slightly uneven (as vid correctly points out). So when launching on a somewhat flat surface that's slightly uneven, the brake still continues to feel engaged at the start of a launch. Make sense? If you don't understand or don't believe what the vid points out, 1) do you even own a 2015+ wrx/sti with hill assist, and 2) if yes to #1, have you compared track times between the two settings??
      If you don't believe what someone says, that's fine. That's on you. But if you wanna troll, you might wanna cover your bases and know what someone's talking about.
      You can resume your online trolling duties.

    For us suckers with the previous gen WRX (non STI) here's the best way how to defeat the damn hill assist. Open up the center console. Find the switch that is pressed in by the hand brake when the hand brake is disengaged. Engage the brake so the switch pops up. Loosen the screw holding the switch and rotate the switch so it won't engage when you release the brake. Tighten the screw to hold the switch in this position and put your center console back on. The car will the think the hand brake is engaged and will not use hill assist. Your brake light will be on. This method doesn't mess with your RPMs like keeping the clutch switch pressed in.

    High-mount brake light rattle and sound settings are not mods. Hill start assist can easily be disabled on the fly by simply letting go of the brake before you clutch in. If the incline is as gradual as you claim it to be, then the car won't roll anywhere. I can't understand why anyone would ever want to permanently disable that feature. I go up and down a 12% grade hill in stop n go traffic twice each day. Hill start assist is a life saver.

      Imre Csoka that clutch clicking sound is actually somewhat normal. I've had it come up twice in 2 years. I looked it up and found that while at a stop, just stab the clutch pedal really quickly and hard 2 or 3 times and poof! fixed. Not sure what it fixes or why but probably something to do with hydraulic pressure.

      Who knows. ...but what i do know is that cars cost a fortune here in South Africa its really sickening. Some are even manufactured here and we sell them off cheaper an then sell them for x2 or more here, its really insane. Either the presidents are making money or somebody else is doing dirty deals.
      Unfair system , really.
      Have to say though, many of the new cars are really cheaply made, i mean if i compare my Opel Corsa 1999 model which was assembled here , the metal is far superior and the windows the way they wind up and just small stuff and maybe even big stuff, i dont know man. Really dont believe u have to pay so much for vehicles and maybe even top=overhead for better build cars.
      Oh, i did the press and hold traction control button but i cant turn mine off.
      No idea if it can be done.
      I believe my Honda being the Ballade model is the same as the City version in some countries.

    • @bigred22685
      @bigred22685 Před 6 lety

      Good old capitalism. Introduce a quality product; build the name; then slowly reduce quality and cut corners, build somewhere cheap; all while slowly raising prices. The Ballade is called the Civic in the U.S. and it's still considered a quality car for the money. Base price maybe $17,000. Our median income is about $45,000 per year. Most of our imported Japanese cars, with the exception of Mazda and Mitsu, and well-made and hold up very well. Whereas our domestic brands (which are rarely built in US anymore, usually Mexico or Canada) seem to lose quality every damn year. Chrysler seems to be the worst, I think the only reason they're still in business is because they produce cheap muscle cars. People here don't seem to care that their $40,000 400hp Challenger will fall apart in less than ten years because of the incentives at purchase than make it seem like a good deal. I don't get it. I'm very happy with my Subaru that I paid sticker price for, being that it's a $30,000 30mpg 300hp AWD car that could last me 30 years.

I just changed the washer on this old thing and the taps stopped leaking but now the cold tap feels like rock hard and u need to really use force to tighten it...this has been a few days now and the bloody tap is leaking, fs. I need to fork out 3 or 400 rand to buy this device and hope it works. Else i can just go to the builders warehouse/like home depot i guess.... and see if there are any guys from Zimbabwe or locals that can help me with the job. Really a pain and things just cost a fortune these days your damn sallary doesnt last you enough to even save, really depressing.
      Yes Mexico / Brazil are the places that most or some of the Opel / Vauxhal / Chev stuff comes from i believe.
      At least for SA. Some stuff still made in Germany. Yah.

      Jack Long
      because I've been driving for 24 years, most of it on a manual, and a helluva lot of it was in San Francisco.
      I can heel toe, I can double cluch. synchronized, un synchronized, clutchless throttle blip shifts? done it. whatever you got i can drive it. I've driven sports cars, 50,000 GVW trucks.
      not one of these previous vehicles has "hill assist"
      your ebrake is your hill assist, if you need to cheat because the incline is steep. you don't need that shit.
      I just bought a 2017 WRX, and I stalled it Three times off the lights coming home.
      Dafuq is this shenanigans?! the first time I was like... ok, brand new cluch, new car, just don't have the friction point yet, and that horrid non linear accelerator curve is catching me out.
      third time I was about to turn around and bring the thing back to the dealer, something didn't feel right.
      got home and Googled "my 2017 6 speed WRX stalls when leaving stoplights." BOOM... people bitching about hill assist.
      WTF hill assist!? really? like on those newer big rig tractors? passenger cars need this?! what happened to the old ebrake trick, what are they teaching kids these days?
      oh yeah this is the same generation that puts so much negative camber on their axles that their ride looks like a spastic baby giraffe... ok... got it...hill assist.
      now, how do you turn that shit the fuck off? novel idea, read manual... watch you tube video. then porn, take shower. eat something, drink beer. OK, where was I???? oh yeah... deamon hill assist. a somewhat complicated button pushing sequence later and a permanent orange silhouette of the Duke boys pulling their signature move on my dash later... it's off.
      go for a spin.

      I have drove manual for 18 years and just bought a 17 WRX 2 weeks ago. My driveway is a decline and the first time i went to leave i noticed it was holding the brake for me. I find it to be awesome. I havent stalled the car once and the brake assist have never came on when im on flat ground. Btw, i try to keep my pedal around 10% and im getting 31mpg already

      It should be in the menu where your boost gauge is. It won't be visible while you're moving, but when you're stopped, it's in there.

      You can double click the button on your key fob to open all doors unless your talking about the keyless part then ive had the same issue on the premium 16 au model so iv just left it and do it the long way by opening one door and pushing the unlock button lol. You can also use the function of your boot button to leave your key in the car if you haven't found it that's a cool little feature if you go to the beach and don't want to bring any of your keys you just use a code on the boot button. Just don't forget the number of pushes when you do it.

    I have an horsepower gaining free MOD for you. Remove the intake silencer aka milk jug from the bottom of your factory air box. There are a couple videos here on CZcams to show you how. You will literally have a free cold air intake. (Don't plug the hole!) 5HP to the wheels easily.

    Dude that hill assist sucks. I noticed after trying to smooth out my "from a stop" and "1st to second" shifts that I could NEVER get it to go smooth. I could literally feel the clutch hit the friction zone, but instead of allowing me to drive my damn car, it would just sit there for about a second, then, without letting any more clutch out, it would start to pull. This sucks, because basically you have a bunch of stuff going on while you're letting the clutch out, whereas it should just be "release clutch, accelerate". Instead, you have "release clutch, car computer figures out if hill assist is needed, possibly holds brake, ensures everything is OK, then finally lets the clutch do its job". Finally, after learning I could turn it off, I can finally actually drive my car by feel, as it should be. There's NOTHING in between me and the clutch. It's so smooth and responsive now. Hill assist is for pussies.

      He saved the insult for the last sentence. Tactful, and quite the opposite of "instantly", as you say. His complaint is very valid, and one that I share. Subaru's implementation of hill assist ends up engaging far more than necessary. Even worse, it feels so unnatural, and just damn annoying - basically what KA-47 was saying in fewer words.

    • @RobertoHernandez-uy3gs
      @RobertoHernandez-uy3gs Před 6 lety

      My wrx is my first car as well as the car I learned to drive stick on. For the first two weeks I had the car I was certain I was retarded. Turned off hill assist and realized that I was actually very good at it already thanks to the experience of shifting from 2-3 3-4 4-5 with hill assist on. Now I will say that it is a tricky clutch but, it is much easier to learn it when you’ve turned off hill assist

    • @RobertoHernandez-uy3gs
      @RobertoHernandez-uy3gs Před 6 lety

      KA-47 the worst feeling was when you coast until you have to brake at a red light and as soon as you come to a full stop the light goes green.

    Spend $30,000 on a new car and disable features that come with the price tag... smh lol and tries to justify it as "I'm so good at manual I don't need it"
