Sai Baba never went to any place except Rahata, Rui and Nimgaon in person (Chapter 40)
Nana Saheb’s great grandfather Triambak Dengle was a Peshwa in 1800 A.D. with an infantry of over 20,000 and was honored for his bravery.
Sai Baba used to visit Jagirdar Baba Saheb Dengle’s house and used to chit chat with him. Nanasaheb was Baba Saheb’s brother. He married a second time as his first wife could not conceive. Even then, there were no issues. So, Baba Saheb sent Nanasaheb to Baba. Sai Baba blessed him and soon a son was born to Nanasaheb.
In Chapter 31 of Bhakt Leela Amrit when the grocers refused to give oil to Sai Baba to light the lamps and then followed Him to Masjid to see what He would do. Unperturbed Sai Baba poured consecrated water in the lamps. The grocers watching said “this man must be downright mad”. Nana Saheb disagreed with them and said, “Shri Hari knows what power this man has, if a diamond lies in a heap of stone would you call it a stone?”. After the lamps were lit and burnt throughout the night, Dengle was bewilderment and fell at Sai Baba’s feet. He remained a staunch devotee of Sai Baba forever.
It was Nana Saheb who brought the wooden plank for Sai Baba to sleep on. This Nana Saheb begged Baba to allow him to do formal Puja, but Sai Baba refused, and asked him to do Puja to the pillar (now painted red in the Dwarakamai).
Once Nanasaheb Dengle brought a big silver plate full of various dainties and begged Sai Baba to eat. Sai Baba shouted out at him and then a black dog came there and licked up some of the food. Nanasaheb Dengle who was there nearby looked at this happening with unhappiness and felt internally, “Is it for this pariah dog that I prepared all this?” Sai Baba perhaps read his mind and at once threw away the plate with all the contents at him and said, “Take it away”. Sai Baba would appear in the shape of any creature or any body and taste the food. Savalram observed this event.
