"You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" is a 1978 single by American disco/R&B singer Sylvester. The song was written by James Wirrick and Sylvester. It appears on Sylvester's 1978 album, Step II. It was already a largely popular dance club hit in late 1978, as the b-side of his previous single "Dance (Disco Heat)", before officially being released as the album's second single in December. Music critic Robert Christgau has said the song is "one of those surges of sustained, stylized energy that is disco's great gift to pop music". In 2003, Q Magazine ranked "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" at number 677 in their list of the "1001 Best Songs Ever". In 2019, the song was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

This song completely embodies the Disco era more than any other song. God bless disco and all those who have passed ❤ RIP

Young people will never understand the vitality of the disco era, it was such a wonderful time to be alive. Music today is awful.
😊👍🪩✨
Patronising nonsense.
Old people never understood the vitality of the Rave era either, and they didn't understand the revolution that was Rock & Roll in the 50s etc, etc.
😊 I totally agree with you 😊
You're simply going to the wrong clubs. There is excellent dance music out there.
Agree!❤
Im 73 but hearing this Im 23 again!!!

Dream on.. they barely recognise women's contribution let alone the LBGTQ.
@@Bertram-vk2gt someone like donny walberg is the antithesis of late 70s disco with it breaking the rules and freedom and love. he started out with some scat act called new kids on the block that in 1987 was the most grotesque sounding scat i ever heard yet he was chosen to be in a movie about all kinds of creative people and the music they made . these artists are still being exploited so someone can make a movie about the 70s and get a new generation to pay to see it. studio 54 was a smelly rathole it was the music artists who made the 1970s not some club owners not creepy actors who want to be seen and use a movie about the late 70s to get fame for them.
100% agreed
Sooooo. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Times were better back then.......😂❤

This song brings me back in the time. I remember London discotheques 45 years ago and really feel so sad and I have to accept time is gone.
😄👍🎶✨
You are lucky, you lived that fantastic time🎵💖🎶
Yes, it’s very sad. The disco era had a vitality and exuberance that younger people will never know. It was a real elegant time too; people were classier.
❤St.Tropez year June 1980!!! This was the hottest hit in every disco! Beautiful people, glamour, stunning clothes... ❤Love from Finland❤

Back when music was fun and good.
Everybody just wanted to dance to a fabulous tune from an awesome singer and there was no hate like it is now. NO division, come Fri and Sat night at the disco or skating rink, we were all the same.
The 70's and 80's were the best times for great music.
I will always love Sylvester!!
😊👍❤️🎵✨
I was born too late. I could have danced at Studio 54. I could have danced on Soul Train, American Bandstand, & Solid Gold. Thank you Sylvester for all your wonderful songs. Thank you for being true to yourself. Rest in power.

🏳🌈oh yes
I was 15 and had this record. All the kids were listening to Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones. I was listening to Sylvester, Donna Summer, Chic ! I'm surprised I survived in one piece ! LOL !

Same here, but in 1978 i was 12
Wow this makes me feel old haha in 1978 I was just going into high school in South Florida we had a radio station Disco 96 that played all this!! BUT because of the time one had to be careful being “gay” because it wasn’t accepted 😢
I finally came out during this time. The music was magical. Everyone respected each other. We just wanted to be who we were. Let's not forget, we all wanted to dance our asses of together. I miss those days.
😊👍✨
I went to Studio 54 and I am still here.
65 and up, we're all still there. Whre else can we be nowadays?
@@racineurr.8924 With all the drugs and sex going on there in the early 70s... so many are not still here.

He was talented and no more
If this isn’t played at my son’s wedding in May I’ll be gutted! It’s one of the all time greatest floor fillers. Along with Come on Eileen and YMCA! Oh how I miss those times.
😊👍🕺💃🏽💃🏼🕺🏾✨🪩✨
Took a lot of guts for Sylvester to just be himself, dress as he pleased.
And nobody cared and loved him and this song
Así es. Y ahora critican de muy mala manera a Sam Smith😔
😊👍✨
A loveable person, and so extremley cool ❤️
What a wonderful contribution to Sylvester and the song
😊👍✨
Also he sang this on American Bandstand in 1978, the first song was Dance Disco Heat with his backing vocalists who later became The Weather Girls as well as Dance Fever. In his Book B Boy Blues, James Earl Hardy mentioned Sylvester in his book Love The One You're With where Mitch Crawford a former writer turned teacher spent sunday night with his best friend gene dancing and one of the songs was do you want to funk. When AIDS became a national issue it was featured in Ebony Magazine (1945-2020) where Sylvester not only lost his lover to AIDS but his own life as well. 😢 May he rest in peace. He was also featured in a book called Full Circle where Ned brummel is living in San Francisco and there's a parade featuring Sylvester.
🙂👍🙏✨
Two Tons O' Fun - Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes. Wash also sang but wasn't immediately credited on C & Cs Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", Seduction's "(You're My One and Only) True Love", Black Box's "I Don't Know Anybody Else", "Everybody Everybody", "Strike It Up", "Fantasy" and "Open Your Eyes".
She had to sue each of them to get credit and royalties for using her vocals.
Ohhh gooodneesss I need go to disco club again 💃 🪩

Back to my life is San Francisco. It was a special time and place to be.
Such a life!
😊👍✨
Yes it was...
I was born in 1963, to strict Irish Catholic parents in Boston. Around 1979, when I was just 16 and in High School, I remembered hearing talk from some of the other girls at my Catholic school, about these 'clubs' they were sneaking into with fake IDs. (Mind you, some of these girls came from pretty tough families, where there parents probably weren't keeping as much of an eye on them. Many of these girls also had older siblings who probably guided them in the ways of sneaking into clubs. I, being the oldest in my own family, had no such insights...)
Anyway, the way they talked about these clubs, I remember how MAGICAL they sounded. I so much wanted to go but...none of my own friends knew anything about these clubs or how to get into them. And I wasn't a part of the cool crowd at school, so there was no way for me to get invited to join some of my other classmates who knew about these clubs. Well, finally the day came...it was probably 1980/81, when I made it to my first disco. By this point, of course, disco was already dying a slow death, but at least I got a teeny taste of it. Oh how I wish I'd been born a few years earlier, and could have experienced disco in its true heyday.
The club I went to in Boston was located in Kenmore Square, and the club was either called ...Celebration?...or Narcissus...and I think they had another club up or downstairs called Lipstick. But guess what? I clearly remember that...one night we were there, and we got to see a live performer. It was SYLVESTER! Little did I realize, at that time, that I was experiencing history....getting to see one of the true pioneers of the disco era! It also saddens me that Ms. Donna Summer, the QUEEN, was from my area and likely also performed in Boston, regularly. It was just that, at that time, I didn't realize or fully appreciate just how amazing she was. I guess I was still too young as well. But now that I know what I know, I would have definitely done whatever it took to have been able to see her perform, Live.
If only we could return to those days. Ah, the music...the pure joy....the excess...the outfits....the hair and makeup!
❤❤

You see boys and girls this is a thing we used to do called “partying and having fun”
It died out about 20 years ago.
That’s why everyone today looks sad and bored and hopeless.
All you have to do is dig up this old music get the correct drugs and be bold enough to dance freely and you too can learn how to have a good time.
I think you can do it💪
😊👍✨
Yep people went out to have fun and dance the atmosphere in discos was electric the 70s were a fabulous era I am so glad I got to experience it
