joe v not sure but you can play stuff stored on usb drives by plugging them in.
I think it'd be cool to see someone figure out this product I found a while ago. It's a rear view mirror, that's also a screen you can use as a backup camera. It had a bunch of other features too. If I can find it again I'll post it here
is there an aftermarket tire-pressure monitor?
MostlyWeed good idea!
@@poepflater I am sure if you go with a more expensive unit it will come with that as well in it
I don't know why CZcams recommended this to me? But this was a great video.
Same here. LoL I found it quite helpful tho.
@@AllensStories lol.
Same here
I also got this in recommended. I watch a ton of car repair videos (South Main Auto, Pine Hollow Auto Diag, etc) so I guess it makes some amount of sense. I get a kick out of seeing old cars given a new lease on life, even more so economy cars like this Malibu.
same :D
That stock radio looks dead boring
Considering I recently crashed my 02 Malibu, and the fact that right now I have no money to repair it. Your video brought back some good memories of working on my car right when I needed them most. Thank you.
😥🤦♂️
The vid brought back some nostalgia for me too. I had a '98 Malibu, it's what I learned how to install stereo stuff in. Full speaker swap, Pioneer head unit, and a 10" sub in the back. I actually miss that car, I sold it a handful of years ago for $400.
Ok?
I brought one of those from China had it in my car for about 2 years now with no problems with the backup camera it is surprisingly pretty good
This is the perfect radio for flip cars
@@jackadams4825 most people buying cars are casuals that know nothing about cars. So it could help.
That 50 dollar investment and hour of his time prob just added 150 min to his flip
jack adams no but people love Bluetooth radios so
@@jackadams4825 Well some people need backup cameras and having it is a deal maker sometimes, not to mention having decent options like AUX and USB.
jack adams Actually as a used car buyer that’s definitely a perk that can standout when making a decision on things. having that extra little touch to a car that normally wouldn’t have bluetooth let alone an aux or usb plug in. people don’t know the price of that thing it looks good and definitely adds value to the car , people want that shit
Still a better fit and finish than anything GM did themselves in the 90's. Fisher-Price Playland Era
I like to consider the 90’s and 00’s the dark era of automotive design (at least for commuter cars)
Grizzly G yeah but they’re all horrendously ugly

I like the 88-94 gm truck factory radios. Completely separate amp factory, wicked radio signal too.

The resale value of the car just went up 2 folds.
Right!
Ive had that stereo in my car for a year now. Love it. Great back up camera and good sound. 60wx4.
I love how that unit connects faster to bluetooth than my 2017 grand cherokee. takes me a good minute to connect
Zach Reynolds so Dodge is part of FCA, and At least in my Uconnect system, for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, they didn’t update it till 2018 with Apple car play. Mine is just slow to connect, maps doesn’t load until a couple minutes and the user interface is just bad. I know on other Jeep models and FCA models they updated the uconnect with Apple car play in 2016. I can take it to my dealer to reset it but that’s all I can hope for
Cool, Dude! Tanks. What a great encouragement to grab a substitute for the built-in, semi non-working factory radio/cd player in my old 2007 Saturn Vue. I was avoiding these cheapie deals, but as you point out, it costs less than even a back-up camera alone!
I really appreciate this. I may get a dog unit, but it is worth the try. You've done a fine job with the video. Thanks!
He ran through a lot of issues and overcame them quite smoothly, huge props for that
I like videos like this where you make the cars more enjoyable and comfortable and "newer"
Like mods that aren't necessary but still make it better
Every time I watch one of your videos, I add another upgrade to my list for my 2013 Tahoe. I’m gonna see if there is a head unit that will work for it. Thanks Matt, your videos are much fun and educational.
I think I want to hug you... I just got one of these I had ordered from wish.com... you told me everything I needed to know. I'm putting this in my 2007 Saturn Vue, and it has exactly the feature(s) I need. I even forgot about the backup camera until it fell out of the box! Too cool.
You are really great on camera... just natural and you showed all the technical stuff really well. Gret job! Thanks again, Dude. I'll look for more of your videos.
>Plugs in pigtail without wiring it to the head unit, and flops the red, yellow and black wires around with the battery connected

This is the closest video I have found so far for what I’m trying to do with my car. It’s a 2002 Mazda protege and I’m looking to buy the same stereo as your from Amazon but the wiring was something I didn’t know dip about till now. You were clear on every step, plugging the custom made harness into the factory one first, then the other two that come with the stereo are soldered/connected to it thus making the stereo compatible. Thank you for the visual tutorial and clear tips.
Hey man, this is a good video. I used to drive a 2001 Malibu LS model. It was my first car. Stupid me traded it for a Chrysler. Now, I have a 2004 Chevy Classic, which is about the same thing. I like the touchscreen and backup camera you installed. I got a standard aftermarket radio w/o touch and backup to install. All I gotta say is the Malibu is nice!
I actually have this exact radio in my trailblazer and to be honest I’m decently impressed. I’ve had it for around a year now and it does everything I need it to. The menus are surprisingly smooth and the touch screen is pretty responsive
That is the classic montage music playing once you got it installed!!! LOL
This upgrade was pretty satisfying to watch!
I've got my license last month and now CZcams has filled my feed with car videos 😂
That’s... that’s not funny. It’s actually extremely concerning.
Nah, you were talking about cars and what you would love to buy while your phone was listening.
You got a cat? No, good. Talk of cat food and see if your phone lists an ad for it.
This was actually a very informative vid! Subbed!
I've been watching your Tahoe videos for inspiration with my Suburban (great videos btw!) and all of a sudden see the exact stereo my Suburban came with, that I spent 4 hours in the SC heat rewiring last week, on this thumbnail. So of course I gotta watch it and see how it worked for you.
My first car, a 1989 Ford Fiesta, had 4 forward gears, manual-windows, manual-choke and no heating.... even that had a cassette deck.

I paid 130 at autozone for my touchscreen boss audio deck, it's badass, it made my system way louder and it had all the outputs plus I can watch movies on it and it has bluetooth so I don't have to worry about my aux cord breaking and my phone instantly connects when I hop in. I put it in my 08 cobalt ls. I recently replaced the front speakers with alpines though, and the system is even better.
Bought the same radio while back from amazon seems to reset clock and settings to default sometimes. Other than that it works fine and plays music and videos from sd card well.
I might add: If you turn on "debugging" on your android phone you can screen mirror your cell phone via the USB cable, good for GPS or CZcams. Also if you need to turn the screen off for night driving you click the sun icon on the top right of the screen. I hooked up a subwoofer to this as well, it has been great for the last 5 months!
Made a big difference in my 2012 Corolla. Mine wasnt as cheap as this one; it was $150 with instillation. Anyways I started wanting a newer car because mine looked really dated inside. I put that cheap radio in about 3 years ago and it really helped.
These are great units at ridiculous low prices. I've just installed one in my 98 Toyota 4 Runner and it looks and performs awesome. All of just $47. Thank you China :-D
I bought the Podafu brand unit , it was $ 38 on Amazon. Came with a remote that attaches on the steering wheel, a hand remote and the backup camera. With these units you connect your cell thru USB and display GPS and CZcams or any app . And the sound is actually good.
I just sold my 2001 Malibu. Bought for 1200 bucks last year as a first car. Put brand new summer and winters on it, full sound system with a Kenwood HU, 2 10" subs and amp, and a bunch of other stuff. Put in like 2000 into repairs and cleaning. Sold it for $1100 last week. Malibu's don't sell for shit man hope you do better than I did.
I've had this same head unit in my Mustang for the last year. It still works great after a year. The only thing I don't like about it is that is sounds a bit muffled when the volume is lower. That could be because of the Mach 460 system they put the Mustang, which has 3 stock amps.
I actually got this same unit for my moms old 2003 Honda CR-V, and she likes it. I got her a little low profile 32GB thumb drive and put all her favorite music on it. She was jamming out to some Jefferson Airplane and Jethro Tull.
That should definitely increase the sale price on that thing easily. Great video man!
Wow! I wish this would’ve come out 4 years ago. It’s a better bargain out of the box than my slow Kenwood HU.
I’ve been running the same headunit in my car for the past 18 months, While it’s far from perfect it’s actually “Decent” for the price. What I actually did is put a double adapter on the Reverse parking camera, Then got a Dash cam that predominantly records frontwards but when the cars put in reverse the exact image and guidelines shown on the headunit for the reverse parking camera then gets recorded onto the dash cam. The only thing the manual said it was capable of using the steering wheel audio controls and has the wires for it but haven’t figured that out yet, As it’d be nice to use even if it’s just the Volume up and down and track forward and back and mode on the steering wheel.
That stock radio removal was smooth.. compared to all of mine that I've done lol. Pop the trim and just 3 Bolts! lols
Good video. Many of these Chinese radios handbrake feature can be disabled or enabled so you can get away without connecting the handbrake feed. But some touch screen radios need this connected. For the navigation side of things. It helps the navigation work out if the car is parked or not. Not just for dvd playback. Just wanted to point that out. Enjoyed your video
Great affordable upgrade for older model cars that can fit the radio.
Finally a good review over one of these!!
that is a a real good fit, looks fantastic . $45 is a great deal and you did installed it yourself.
Great vid man. I need something cheap to drop into my Supra... All I really need is BT and USB.
I have the same exact radio in my 69 cutlass convertible it’s good enough to get some sounds bangin I have 2 6x9s and 2 5 1.4 hooked to it and it’s nice and clear
We just ran into this a week or so ago! Never saw it before. On a Chevy truck. Same thing. Blew our mind.
I bought that same unit about 3 months ago. I use 3m double sided tape to get it to stay in my dash kit and i have no complaints. It’s a pretty solid unit and I think I paid $34 for mine but it was definitely worth it.
This looks better then the stick radio on my 2015 Subaru crosstrek POS!!
Put something similar to this in my truck a couple of years ago, it's been fine, I've upgraded my speakers and added a sub amp.
Holy crap and I just bought a double din Pioneer head unit for my impala, and I saw this exact one thinking, it’s cheap but a risk for me. Glad to see you got it so I can see maybe if thats better than $250 lol.
This is worth it just for the backup camera. It really makes the car feel more modern.
coolcamaro12 yea I got a screen for the camera because I had Bluetooth with a adapter
Or you can just turn your head and look it's really not that hard
Epiccomedy it gets rid of the guess work
My tints make it so hard to back up my suv, i always guess i have less space then i actually do
And its easier on my dads explorer, although his suv is bigger.
And im really good at parking (not to brag)
Plus the camera comes free, mine was $49.99 its not that bad.
@@epiccomedy227 who does that, you turn your head then, BOOM! neck cramp. Then you in pain, crash then vehicle blow up. Backup camera eliminates all that.
@@solesoul2108 well if that happens then that means you need to eat healthier maybe
I purchased 2 of these, one for my 97 integra as it had oem radio, and 95 integra on my girlfriends.
The bluetooth was exactly what i wanted.
Just got done installing 1, bad ass 👌🏽👌🏽, installing back up camera tomorrow.
Hopefully the this car get sold quickly and helps fund a certain ls powered third gen !!!!!
Sorry I’m just now seeing this but I normally catch up on my off days love the video this would be good for my son
in chevys you have to find a turn on power from somewhere else i usually use ignition 0 or 1 position.
I had a problem with my wire harness as well on my 06 dodge but I connected it to the constant power and have it on a toggle switch for off and on and has worked great for about a year now
$45 stereo in a $35 car.
Actually a $150 car
at least he owns the car
It's usually a $2K radio in a $35 car, so this is quite sensible.
lol
Don't forget the $20 dash kit and $5 harness. :)
I bought the same model a couple of years ago. Was better than I expected for the price
Like your shirt says. That install looks super clean
I bought one of these. The only problem I had was the constant wire melted the Hennessy it came in. I fixed it and had no problems since. Works great. I’m even using the RCA outputs for my sub.
For your consideration, PLZ makes a capacitive touchscreen head unit with a backup camera for $20 more, and has a more sleek UI. Only drawback is no volume knob. I'm actually looking to get that one, and I believe it has firmware updates as well. Just for anyone out there, or for you lsxmatt if you decide to put one in another car some day!
I put one on 02' buick . looks nice sounds. The down side. Is the equalizer reset itself everytime. The sceen is bright. But it does have qiuck dim. Light button . plus side the camera works good . especially if got that dark tint.
That's common on 99% of the GM cars. Awake signal for the radio is being send through the communication wire. That's why they don't have power by ignition switch. Got me confused couple of times ;)
I glad you finally afford that touch screen
Dude, you sound like Ray Romano! Lol nice video btw!
Heard a little bit of Seth Rogen too lol
I was literally looking at this head unit 2 weeks ago and was so on the fence about it.
Basic and ordinary is all I ask for. I might give it a go. Right now I have a single din $20 Walmart Duel system but I do a lot of driving for work at night and the bright blue in the unit I have is quite bothersome because I just cannot figure out how to dim it. This one seems like it might be a great upgrade.
Thanks for biting the bullet with this one. I don’t like buying cheap shit, but was wanting to get this for shits and giggles.
Hahah that’s cool the readies is awesome for $45 bucks I got one S8 and is good, it sounds good and it came with back up camera for $45 dollars. No need of $500 radio when a cheap one can do the same pretty much. 🤙🏼
Threw one in my blazer ...Used bird house wood as a frame from the Dollar store ..I mean really i glued those suckers to the unit and a few Popsickle sticks as shims dollar store black paint bang fits like a glove
Bought one some months ago, with a little software update, and runs fine. Bought in Aliexpress, 30$ with free shipping.
Perfect for old cars x)
How did you update the software?
@@somcreative I didnt, the version of the radio I bought already had a newer software package. But nothing much different. A bit cleaner and faster than this one.
I installed into my Honda CRV in 2014 a Pyle ( Pyle has been around for I remember seeing the brand for first time in an old JC Whitney catalog back when I was a kid ) system.
While I connected everything including something I shouldn't have I unfortunately blew out the lights on the instrument cluster which even if I replace the bulbs it wouldn't work, make sure you know what wires you're hooking up.
Personally I soldered everything and used shrink tube over the connections which in my view is the best way of doing it. I installed a Pyle 459 ( I think that's the model number ) everything went fine except for what I mentioned. It does pay to get a wiring harness kit so that the factory harness can plug right into it.
The only downside is the camera I purchase was too cheap and it works sporadically, the weird thing is it tends to only work when I get the car washed, I checked out the connections after it started messing up and everything is fine it's just the camera is crap.
This is not a difficult thing to do except it's a bit of a pain in the butt installing the backup camera. If you take your time it'll turn out fine.
Oh yeah, the owner's manuals was completely useless.
I bought this identical radio from Walmart last Christmas, it was branded as a Blaupunkt Baltimore 650BD and came with two speakers for $49.88.
I see ended up buying a $14 backup camera and installed it in my 03 Super Duty, mainly for lining up with my trailer.
It works well, only complaint is occasionally when I start the truck and it connects to my phone, it will redial the last number I called. Weird.
The reason you have to push a little on the screen is because it's resistive instead of capacitive, but the upside is it will work with gloves
So, overall not bad for $50
That is so much easier an installation than it would be in my 04 Chevy Impala!
One thing I miss on getting old cars when I was younger is learning the wiring to change out the radios.
Good job man. The labor and brain use to install was the expensive part. You'll make that back when you sell it.
The reason you needed to run the external switched power was this year car used the canbus to turn the radio on and off. It's how the radios on these would stay on even after you switched off the car until you opened the drivers door. They make a canbus compatible harness, but it's much more expensive and for a cheap car like this, what you did is fine. The switched 12v line draws almost no power so tapping into the hvac controls is fine, the radio draws its main power from the yellow wire.
There is one minor drawback here, depending on the car, (IIRC this is the case with this era Malibu) the warning dings/turn signal clicks are sometimes sent as commands via the canbus to the OEM radio and played out of the speakers, so doing what you did here you lose them, the more expensive canbus harness adapters have a little speaker in them to make the noises.
Looks like a pretty decent one, a few of them out there are pretty awful. Even the camera doesnt look the worst, although in low light i wonder how thatll be.
But still, great video, I subbed!
Your Trans Am needs a double din radio installed in it too now!
Thaaaaaaat eeeeeeezzz fennnnnnnntasticccccccc , mate ..... Love it bro.
You should copy the wiring diagram and tape it to the radio for the next guy!
Why? The next owner will be replacing the unit, so the wires will be different.
Also all headunits even cheap ones like this will have a sticker with the wires on it
The next guy is the junk cars guy. He doesn't care about that.
Check the sound with the engine running to see if you get engine whine. I put a pioneer touch screen with back up cam, blue tooth, dvd, etc in my 98 Trans Am.
I drive a 80 regal . Put a Walmart stereo on it works like a charm. Connects Bluetooth in a instant. My buddies 2018 impala tho ... lol have to park , wait & then wait some more . & then it’ll connect haha
A lot of gm radios of that era have a accessory feed that uses low voltage from a “body” controller. You have to run your own accessory wire.
i installed this on my friends jeep and its a awesome upgrade

Alot of that junk you get dirt cheap is Chinese knock offs. Not something I would trust hooking up as they are usually of lower quality and poor wiring, that can potentially destroy your electrical system. You get what you paid for.
You can find them on eBay dirt cheap. You can also make it show your cars make when it turns on by going into the main settings.
Your video is good, but it confirms that for a layperson like me, this installment - which I would love to do on my Malibu - would be impossible. Way too difficult.
Looking to put a touchscreen in my car thanks for the video 🤙👌
Not clear on the Bluetooth or loosing connection. My thoughts as a tech was using one of many OBD-II plug ins that transmit via blue tooth. For use in an old truck, running a full “LS” swap, was to see data points on the screen. It would be nice rather than getting my Tech2 out. Playing FM/AM, having a backup camera, then switch to show electronic gauges with various PIDs available would be a package fine with me. Only having a driving camera would be desired, but stand a lone units can be better at night and more storage. Cool video. Goes to to show the slightly better components and software = Profit for the companies that sell touch screen radios, hire a few engineers and the rest is clear money.
Bought a cheap 100 android radio from amazon but it acted weird so i ended up returning it for a duel. Im very happy with the duel!! Apple play works awesome!
