Making Mead with Quince right now. One fruit with 3 pounds of honey in a gallon of water with yeast. Have Not seen ANYONE use Quince since I was a kid when our local stadababas from Easter europe used to pick them for jelly.

My quince are loaded this year! About 10 5-6 year old trees and I think 5+ bushels.

Thanks for the info on Quince. As you said not much is generally known about it because it has fallen out of favor. Love the hat! I have been wearing them for over 30 years. They are the best! :)

I make membrillo with mine. Lovely with crackers and Spanish or Mexican hard cheeses.....or any cheese and charcuterie items!

I mostly eat quince raw. Only a few varieties are good raw: Kuganskaya and Crimea, also known as Krismskaya. I freeze them and eat them throughout the year. Then they aren't so dense and hard to eat.

The thorny varieties make an impenetrable barbed wire fence.

I've been nipping off the flowers on my Aromatnaya quince for the past three, years, looking forward to fruit next year! However...I have an amelanchier autumn brilliance that is always covered in rust not far away. Should I cut it down if I want to increase my chances of healthy fruit?

If they are not bruised during harvest or storage, quince can last 3-4 months stored outdoors or in your fridge.
