British Lawnmower Championship starts

Lawnmower racing is a far cry from the glitz and glamour of Formula One but the niche motorsport is back for its 49th season in the UK.
At each meeting, the Championship race lasts between 10 and 18 laps. Points are awarded on a 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, and 1 basis.
At this first meeting of the season, new racers got their chance to try the sport and test whether their mowers will make the grade. New drivers out in each of the classes wore red bibs, this was to ensure the more experienced members could maneuver their way around the novices more easily.
There is a great sense of camaraderie in this grassroots sport where helping out is the order of the day and welcoming new people into what is affectionately termed the lawnmower family.
