Silicone is quite heat resistant. A good soldering iron (which is used at 380°C or more) will usually have a silicone insulated cable, so that the soldering iron will not be able to melt it.
And as you noticed, silicone is super soft. So the cables are very flexible and comfortable to use, but easy to cut through.

"does not melt" doesn't saywhat temperature it is capable of withstanding. In this case I agree with the blowtorch test, for the first time ever lol.

@@gamers_anonymous Sure it might not say what it's graded to, but it for OVENS, which typically get to a max of ~500F. Someone said that blowtorch gets to ~3000F. Of course it's going to melt or burn at 3000F. Food grade silicone is good till around 425F, but I imagine they probably got it higher for the glove. 500 is safe, but it's stupid to test 6x the highest heat itd usually experience and expect it to stay intact

The Ov-Glove is a great product! It is designed to protect your hands when taking hot things out of the oven. It’s not designed to protect you from a propane torch or to protect you from cuts. It does what it’s supposed to do very well. It’s only real drawback is that hot liquids will go right through it . Be careful when handling hot dishes that contain a lot of liquid. I can’t think of a single recipe that calls for a temperature of over 450 degrees, so we’re good there.

Before you even start I just want to say the Ove Glove is amazing. The only flaw I have encountered is if the glove gets wet that area will let heat through the glove. It's really good for grilling or just grabbing baked potatoes out of the oven. The Slap Chop is really good for small jobs, it does work on all onions you just have to peel the skin off first.

The problem I have with the Ove glove is that a blow tour has is fire compared to an oven which is indirect heat, you can’t compare a glove that’s for the oven to an open flame when that flame can get to almost 800-1000 degrees F and even the broil setting on your oven can’t get that high. So in the end you didn’t give the glove a fighting chance.

This comment goes with the glove. I work at subway, and the toaster is about 512 degrees F just sitting at idle. It gets hotter when you toast or heat stuff in it. The tan things we put meat Into are made of silicone, and they don't melt..obviously. they get a lot more flexible, but don't melt
