The opening line is one of the most profound statements made in the entire series, and it is so slept on. Everything Sasuke believed to be true was basically an illusion (or genjutsu) caused by politics and a cruel world, and itachi was trying to see if he had realized that or not.

Sasuke was really living in one massive genjutsu all his life till he learnt the truth - not surprised that he plunged into darkness and vengeance. No wonder he imagined how Danzo would be laughing mockingly that he managed to deceive and use the one remaining Uchiha child to fulfil his own wishes.
Itachi basically wanted to see if Sasuke could see through Itachis deception but ultimately Sasuke was too focused on revenge to notice

1:49 This is probably one of my favourite moments in Shippuden. The whole Genjutsu part of this fight is really entertaining and is a good example why I love battles involving Genjutsu. It's a good way to trick, not only the characters, but also the viewer / reader and it therefore has great narrative value (just like Naruto's little "pranks" with his Shadow clones and transformation jutsu). And the fact the Uchiha brother uses several layers of Genjutsu against each other is very enjoyable to watch / read.
I burst out laughing when Itachi just grabbed him from behind and threw him like a ragdoll. Sasuke really had no idea how outmatched he was
Despite this fight happened in genjutsy, it was just clearly showed how easily Itachi would've dominated him. But he wasn't interested in. Sasuke's still not comparable to Itachi in terms of skills, and as it's known Itachi's suffering from his disease and probably he's not doing his best

No matter how many times you've seen it, you can watch it again. This clip that Crunchyroll put up has been on hundreds of other channels for like a decade, yet in a week's time it has over half a million views. It's truly timeless.

The action scenes in Naruto have held up really well. You can tell that's when big daddy toei was putting more than just cat food and wheatbix inside of their food bowls at the studio. Very fluid and kinetic.

This first 5 seconds with Itachi chilling on the Uchiha throne showing his absolute dominance and immerse amount of drip is just awesome
I wish people would understand that he didn’t just “hold back”, he quite literally scripted the entire fight to perfection which is far more impressive. I especially love how at the beginning of the fight they show us just how degraded itachi’s vision is as well. And as we all know, he was also plagued with his terminal illness. Despite this he was still able to give Sasuke a fight in which he never once tried to actually hurt him while still giving the illusion that it was a fight to the death all so Sasuke could arise as a hero. He even made sure to draw out and seal orochimaru to free sasuke from his curse mark. Went as far as to give him some of his power to further protect Sasuke from Madara(Tobi/Obito) - unfortunately, as we know, itachi didn’t realize obito had a surplus of sharingans so he could easily employ izanagi without actually sacrificing his true eye. In conclusion it really is a shame we never got to see him at full power actually trying but still one of my favorite scenes.

When was Itachi's degraded vision shown?
@@mikeyfreeman6803 it’s stated later on that repeated use of the Mangekyo causes degraded vision/drastic negative effects on the body. Sasuke experienced intensive headaches with little use after unlocking it, while we know Itachi had used his Mangekyo way more and for much longer. Probably the reason why Itachi had that “illness” the show alludes to.

One of the best of not the best plot twist was itachis past because it was incredibly unexpected despite there being clues all around that he was actually a good guy who cared about sasuke.
I remember thinking he was pure evil back then and when they told his backstory I was shocked beyond belief.

Sasuke honestly had some of the best fights in the entire series come Shippuden. Deidara, Itachi, Killer Bee, Ay, Danzo, etc. Following his journey was honestly one of the reasons I enjoyed the series so much.

As for the rest of it, I can’t agree. The amount of times Sasuke has been handed a win, gotten bailed out, or gained a new ability because the plot required it is absurd. The Five Kage summit, or the final war arc for example.

The fact is Kakashi was tired using MS, but the same with Sasuke, and he faced with Kakashi after a grueling fight with Danzo, used Susanoo against Kakashi and felt bad

One of the most built up and anticipated fights in anime history
Itachi blind as a bat , sick as a dog but still clever as a fox.
There's lots of details in this fight that gets overlooked, you need to replay those scenes over and over to better understand the choppiness at times because the frames are too few and the scenes go by fast, I really have a greater appreciation for animators to pump out an episode each week.
These were the good times. Epic fight without gods and ninja tech.

So although it was Genjutsu, it was still based on Itachi's actual self.
If you noticed, the entire fight, he tries to stay in contact with Sasuke's body. I think that, considering his rapidly declining eyesight, he was actually reading Sasuke's muscle movements to know how to dodge and attack.
True, it was genjutsy fight, but this genjutsy fight represents the real difference between their skills and what Itachi could've done to Sasuke if he fought him seriously

The funny part about this fight is how happy Sasuke appears. Almost like he is not doing it out of pure anger anymore, but instead he gets a rush out of revenge, as it validates all for which he has worked for. For Sasuke this was his final moment. Whether he lost or won, his journey would end right there

It's interesting that from the Zetsu's perspective they just saw both Uchiha brothers standing still for minutes straight. Itachi's genjutsu is so utterly superior to his brother's that Sasuke didn't even get to start fighting until Itachi let him.

I remember watching this when it first came out. I miss fights like this. The animation/artstyle, music, choreography, the dark story between the 2 characters giving us the bloodlust vibes, fear, anger etc... The character development is out of the window in Shippuden. We all thought Itachi was evil and how scary he was until after this fight, it was all his plan.
In my opinion this is what I miss when I watch anime's today. Not a lot can replicate the feelings Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and a couple others give off.

I love that in the beginning its all a battle of the mind. The tsukuyome allows the caster to see the possibility of what would happen if they fought then the caster can change the outcome by producing different results. Almost like Ywatch's Almighty except that Almighty sees every possibility then alters it if it happenes.
