#guitar #music #guitarist #shorts yessir. dissecting world famous guitar pedal combos for some quality geetar content. can you dig it. happy new year :)
@@Juiceboxbrian I’m not policing it, I just don’t get calling something a genre when it very obviously isn’t that genre - you wouldn’t call shoegaze “garage rock”, so why would you call grunge a different genre?
I need to use that combo more often, I mostly think of chorus as a shimmery clean effect (own a Roland jc40 which is probably why) but forgot how great chorus can sound with a dirt pedal running into it.
You really think ole dude would buy an xotic just for a video short? I guarantee most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two. I was showing someone my rig a few weeks ago and was using a klone and an AM sunface (ge fuzz face). Guy i showed said it sounded just like 80s rock. Point is no one cares and dont be pretentious about guitar pedals and tone.
Another cool trick to do with chorus is to stack a compressor before it, add some reverb and delay to taste. Very dreamy. I also really love running light to medium overdrive into vibrato for kind of a lofi effect.
Mikey been watching your videos for a month now they are soo interesting tbh i always want to play a guitar when i hear your tones but i dont have a guitar (sad face ) but anyways have a great day to anyone who reads this
I SWEAR TO GARFIELD that I wrote an almost identical riff to the first grunge one, I've said this on another video of yours but the resemblance is impeccable!
You should do more of these, but with pedal sounds that are a bit less... Common? I've seen about a Thousand guitarists try to replicate these tones. Show us something special, something harder to find.
Did you know kurt cobain in the early days of nirvana used a wah pedal combined with a delay on specific settings to generate weird sounds when needed?
I'm a sucker for a good delay (lucky cat or dl4), a reverb (oceans 11 or hall of fame 2), and a looper- the dl4 has one but it's limited so I use a ditto.
Saw a tube screamer in your bundle of pedals. I thought those were cool until I tried the mucho boosto by Durham electronics. It blows the TS out of the water. Pair it with a sex drive also from Durham, and you’ll have an unforgettable tone that’s amazing on tubes. Don’t use it in solid state though it will wreck the amp
My favorite part was when he said “it’s guitaring time” and played guitar all over the place
My favorite part is when he said "Its's pedalin time!" And started to pedal all over the place
My favorite part was when he said "it's mikey'n time!" and mikeyed all over the place
My favourite part was when he said “it’s wahin’ time” and started wahing all over the place
@Bob_b and that paired great with when he said, "It's distortin' time!" And distorted all over the place
My favourite part was when he said "it's time" and proceeded to all over the place
The first combo sounds so grungy but melodic
Doesn’t sound grungy at all
@@swampshack1018 uh oh we got the grunge police over here
@@Juiceboxbrian it really doesn’t, though. Sounds more indie.
I could hear that tone in many shoegaze songs
@@Juiceboxbrian I’m not policing it, I just don’t get calling something a genre when it very obviously isn’t that genre - you wouldn’t call shoegaze “garage rock”, so why would you call grunge a different genre?
The first riff went so fucking hard
what song is it?
@@LRE2457 thats what i wanna know
@@joerogan4507 I’ve been searching through all the comments, and attempted to Shazam it. Unfortunately, I think he just wrote it
it was aight
That chorus + distortion sounds like the perfect pedal combo
Very shoegaze
I need to use that combo more often, I mostly think of chorus as a shimmery clean effect (own a Roland jc40 which is probably why) but forgot how great chorus can sound with a dirt pedal running into it.
But at the same time, try running a compressor into chorus with some hall reverb and digital delay for dreamy shoegaze tones.
That jimi tone was so nice
Jimi Hendrix sound was pure golden.
He was hanging out with Frank Zappa and he ended up giving Jimi his first wah pedal, the rest was history ❤️🤘🎸🌌
Dude I have that Fuzz Face, it's amazing
@@jojoversus1100 how much was it????? I rly wanna get a fuzz face
@@jojoversus1100 how much was it????? I rly wanna get a fuzz face
@@jeeptoe i personally recommend the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix fuzz face which ranges from 100$-300$
Im madly in loveeeeee with that first combo
Bro I love the first one holy shit, literally beautiful 😭
Same bro
The first combo was used by Husker Du and Die Kreuzen first - Kurt simply appropriated them and made it a household name.
What song was it
Dude its not appropriation lmao
Jm only used the octave pedal like twice on the 2019 tour. He doesn’t use a vox wah either, he uses an XOTIC
Wow, you love to kill all fun, I hope you have a great day. 👍
🤡🤡🤡

Ignore the replies your totally right. People for some reason think they have to defend John Mayer to the death 😂
@@marekw7562 Nothing fun about false information
John Mayer is my favorite artist and I’ve noticed that some of them sound like that.
when i saw the notification for this video i thought, “he better mention kurt cobain’s small clone and ds-1” and you did!
Love these vids man, you’re such an inspiration. Also please do more of these!!!
First one is so wonderful
Good to see jm finding his way on ur channel
bro was that first song a real song cause i wanna learn that so bad
same
use these 👂👂
It just sounds like everlong
Kinda sounds like silver rocket by sonic youth
What came to my mind was after hours by mr kitty it’s sound exactly like that
Another cool trick to do with chorus is to stack a compressor before it, add some reverb and delay to taste. Very dreamy. I also really love running light to medium overdrive into vibrato for kind of a lofi effect.
You should use a guitar with a bridge position humbucker for Kurt Cobain demos. He put humbuckers in all of his Fenders.
Also Kurt used the distortion above 1 on his DS1! This guys scared of actual distortion, so much so its a meme!
The first combo sounded HEAVENLY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
what about john frusciantes DS2 into ibanez WH10 combo
What song were you playing for the Kurt Cobain example?
Absolutely wonderful tones dude
That last tone is very spot onn
This opened my mind up! I really like this distortion petal, but I’ve always loved chorus effects.. gunna try it out :) thank you
Yep, all three, very accurate. Nice video 👌
Absolutely nothing like a Boss MT2 all the way up or goin into a tube screamer. Man oh man what a game changer
the face you make when you play guitar looks like the music that you play
LOL..... He uses the pedal as a microphone in the very beginning without noticing he's doing it.... 😆
can you do a video on Clapton’s Cream tone?
all ur vids just hit man big fan keep it up!!!
That Hendrix combo is something else 👌
So THAT’S how Kurt played the solo for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
yo that first combo is sick as hell
Jimi also used a Uni-Vibe with an expression pedal.
That was once he got to the band of gypsys late JHE era. Earlier on as the JHE he first started by just using a fuzz face and wah.
my right ear really enjoyed ur guitar playing
Love all three, the Jimi Hendrix combo🥇
Mikey been watching your videos for a month now they are soo interesting tbh i always want to play a guitar when i hear your tones but i dont have a guitar (sad face ) but anyways have a great day to anyone who reads this
I really like to have an overdrive pedal like any overdrive pedal
I love when you play Hendrix
Can't forget the ts09 + jcb95
I SWEAR TO GARFIELD that I wrote an almost identical riff to the first grunge one, I've said this on another video of yours but the resemblance is impeccable!
Most notably the hum guitarist uses the boss ds1 pedal still today.
Can we see a run through of all your amps!
Jimmy knew how to play with best sound years before others
Guitarist from our band uses distortion from joyo with vox wah-wah (before that he used boss ds-1 that now I use on bass). His solos kills man.
Do 1973 Jimmy page tone please 🥺
Tube screamer + Big Muff
I use a berigner chorus pedal and a distortion pedal i had no clue i was doing the ole kurt combo
Dude please release a track featuring the Kurt cobain duo riff
Ts808/Ts9/Ts10 + Vox (Pre owned by Jimi the man Hendrix himself) V847 Wah- That Was Stevie’s pedalboard when he started going places
You kinda look like John Deacon during live aid
"Hog Pog Vox Wah Octave Multiplexer..."
i literally guessed how he’d set the list. “kurt cobain, some dude nobody has ever heard of, and jimi hendrix”
Univibe + fuzz face 👀
I have that Fuzz Face & that same Wah, I've had it since I was little.
part 2 pls
Can you next time do Brian May?
70s to First 80s : Treble booster + foxx phaser
80s to Today: Treble booster + chorus
I'm a simple man, I see Kurt Cobain in a music vid, I like the video
You should do more of these, but with pedal sounds that are a bit less... Common? I've seen about a Thousand guitarists try to replicate these tones. Show us something special, something harder to find.
What song was the riff in the grunge tone?
He found a new "quirky" way to pick! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Yo Mikey, I have a request on you trying Eddie Van Halens 5150 tone pls.
We worship the same god.
Nice t-shirt collection !
My favorite part was the chorus and the distortion aka kurt cobain's tone its a legendary combo for me
I use a tube screamer into a big muff for half the set, more or less
And a mucho busto to into a Maxon D&S the other half
I swear this guy only knows these three guitarists
Sounds awesome! Could you look into any Tame Impala guitar pedal combos by chance?
Can you tell us the first riff you did at the beginning with the Distortion DS1 and Small Clone Chorus please? We need to know.
Eric Clapton be like "Tch. What's a distortion pedal?" *fully turn on his 25db treble booster in his strat*
Yea clapton fans claim he never uses pedals but has a treble booster in his guitar, a wah and then a whole ass leslie speaker.
Ngl once I heard chorus and overdrive I was over here screaming "ZAKK WYLDEEEEE"
Did you know kurt cobain in the early days of nirvana used a wah pedal combined with a delay on specific settings to generate weird sounds when needed?
The first combo could be used for goth music omg
Yo! I wanted to say you’re really good at guitar 🎸 I’m 12 and am learning guitar can you post a tutorial of you’re picking technique?
Bro forgot the man who uses a wah pedal in basically every solo: Kirk Hammett of Metallica
Hed be scared of the actual distortion...
@@dunxy 😱 a funk/jazz guitarist that doesn’t use distortion
@@dunxy cry about it metalhead
Can you do any Tony iommi stuff
So when are you dropping a guitar course ? I wanna be able to play funk and solo too
Don't forget Eddie's MXR Phase 90 and MXR Flanger
I need the Hendrix duo
I have that same shirt!
Hendrix had his wah in front of the fuzzface
What riff did you play with the Kurt contain one
Bro I wanna know that same question 😭 currently on my guitar trying to figure it out

Every breath you take?
jack white’s pedalboard only contains a big muff fuzz and a digitech whammy. simple and powerful
I want to know what Wes Borland uses (Limp Bizkit)
Petition for him to use more distortion
Phase 90 and echoplex delay/booster
i guess we can’t talk about kirk hammett or bucketheads pedal duos cus they just be using those wah’s
Where do you get all these fancy microphones from?
Can you do videos on David Gilmour
I'm a sucker for a good delay (lucky cat or dl4), a reverb (oceans 11 or hall of fame 2), and a looper- the dl4 has one but it's limited so I use a ditto.
i was expecting intro for voodoo child intro for Hendrix combo
this is the moment mikey became meisenberg
I call the wah wah pedal the kirk pedal 😭
Hendrix did wah into fuzz not fuzz into wah but other than that, spot on!
The first riff sounds like mr kittys after hours
Puh i was afraid that this Video were without Cobain or Hendrix 😂😂
Can you do SRVor Prince
