I have owned my Buck 119 for 35 years. Even back in the late 80's when I bought it, I said "Why doesn't Buck do something with their handles?" The standard smooth black handles are horrible when your fingers are wet or greasy from cutting up deer during the hunting season. Honestly, I can't believe Buck hasn't been sued and forced to change the texture, design and smoothness of their black handles decades ago. You have a great idea with this filing technique, it may save you a trip to the emergency room to get stitches in your hand.
Nice work. I modded mine too by taking the beak off the pommel, reducing the blade side of the guard to be the same as the spine side and taking the shoulder off the grind to essentially convex it. It’s a 1997 year knife. ATB.
Blade is almost but not quite 6 inches long. The handle is not plastic. Its the same stuff as Pool balls are made of. I've had mine since 1985 and she's still going strong. As for how slippery the handle can get when wet. This is easily solves by using shrink fit tubing you use on fishing pole handles. I used some on mine about a year ago, and it makes all the difference. As for skinning game. Its too big. I prefer a drop point blade, no more then 4 inches long. Much more control. But thats just my two cents worth. Oh, and yes I've hunted and shot, Deer and Antelope, rabbits and squirrels.
