As a film Beyond Lijo sir 'Churulli' which looked too much similar to the chaotic kattikuttal of Jalikattu, I preferred the well organized slow direction and story execution of Nissam Basheer sir 'ROCHACH' which had more organic story development.
For me Rochach first then churuli were brilliant. But again the characters in both these films lack the memorable nostalgia of classic fantasy experimental movies like Manichitrathazu and also Bharathan effect. 😊🤓

I have a different theory. Churuli as a place (forest) is a representation of human mind.
Shajeevan and Anthony represent the moral and well mannered image that we show to the outer world.
The crossing of bridge is the representation of entering to our own mind or our own true self. Notice the difficulty in entering which is the difficulty in understanding oneself and reluctance in accepting the morally bad version of oneself.
The cursing and violent behaviour of the locals is the representation of frustration and anger we have for others, which we do not show due to morality and manners.
Kariyachan and his liquor shop represents the intoxication which brings out the true nature of each one. Notice how everyone in the shop shows his/her true colours. Another example is when he converts the shop to a makeshift church. This is to show that religion too is a form of intoxication but one where everyone is well mannered just to enjoy the benefits (feast) at the end. Also Kariyachan is the only one who can talk to anyone easily.
The quick change in Anthony is a representation of how some people easily get swayed towards hidden desires. The slow yet most cruel change in Shajeevan (killing of Kodava guy and hurting of the boy) is to show how the most moral guy can fall to the lowest level.
Thankan chettan is a representation of pride, who keeps saying, "do you know who I am?".
The aliens are the moralities which seem alien to Shajeevan once he enters the mind's labyrinth. They are mute spectators to the changes happening. Notice that only one alien is shown for Anthony but two for Shajeevan representing that Shajeevan had more moral principles for himself.
Soubin's character Joy is a representation of the core human behaviour without any inhibitions of morality or without any compulsion to be truthful. He is first shown to be a cripple because he is made powerless because of all moral policing and regulations. But once Shajeevan and Anthony take him in jeep and Joy starts to guide them, Shajeevan realizes that he is no different from Joy, who is just an animal with high survival instincts. That is when he reaches the core of his mind represented by the bright light. Also the simultaneous closing of the eyes is representation that in every misdeed we do, there is an animal behaviour represented by Joy.
Yss bro the story is about the labyrinth of our mind the ego and its explains all the paradox of our mind like a paradox in the movie...thats the genious of the man lijo.......❤ ur explaination feels more true and prefound
