Thanks for the direct comparison. In 1980, I bought a Music Man 112-RD65 combo amp, but I was always disappointed with it's reverb, The tank in that amp was a Cascade branded, short length, 3-spring tank made by O.C. Electronics in Wisconsin. It worked, but just did not even come close to the lush reverb found in many Fenders. Several years ago, the original tank suddenly died and was discovered to have a bad transducer. I replaced that tank with a mod tank and could not be happier. At last I have a lush reverb. About a year later, I replaced the Accutronics tank in my early Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Clearly a better sounding reverb. I'm sold on the mod tanks.
@BamaCoug69 that would be Michael Jackson - Human Nature it was released in 1983 so you're memory is pretty accurate. My version was based on John Mayer's rendition.
The tone is very close but I like the ACCUTRONICS better. HOWEVER, when you factor in the price difference and the fact that the MODS come with rubber grommets and the Accutronics don't - The Accutronics comes out to be almost TWICE THE PRICE.
I am sure if you just do the billm basic mod it will make a huge difference. Twin Stack mod is as simple as grounding one side of the mid trim pot... takes only one wire. If I can only do 2 mods it would be the T020 transformer which you will notice the flabby low end turn into quality when you replace that transformer. The second would be the basic mod. Its just tio good. These do not change tone at all... only create more control and better quality... not a matter of opinion... just better.
I like both, the acutronics is brighter and lighter on the ear as it doesnt wash out the dry signal with the mid range washy effect. Yet i like that washy warmth as an effect in itself. The bj 4 is so dark for reverb. that is meant to allow more reverb without washing out the original signal, this vid kind of makes me question that principle. It works for the old boss analogue delay. i have bj 4 and i turn it right down to 3 anyway because its so dark and like a dark hall effect. Why cant i just have normal spring reverb on a fender.
@BamaCoug69 I'm running a EH 12AY7and EH 12AX7's in the preamp section, and JJ EL84's in the poweramp. Changed the reverb to the MOD and replaced the reverb cable connectors with nice neutrik's (this reduced a lot of noise). I'm running the amp into a clone of a Two-Rock 1x12 Signature cab with a Eminence RW&B speaker. I'm really considering the BillM or Fromel mods but I'm doubting the difference it'll make...(the cheap mods, OT/PT upgrades aren't worth it to me)
lobbert , In regards to your mod tank , I installed this same tank in my BJr and get a lot of hissing noise when I turn it up ! I read what you posted where do I get this cable? Thank you in advance.
Thanks...I racked my head for awhile and realized later it was Jacko..but couldn't remember the song....Thanks again..Have you changed out the tubes in your BJr? I have ordered the RTank, STBY PXR switch, and the Fromel BJr mod kit(easy, no drilling)...and looking at a Heyboer low profile XFR, a couple of easy Billm mods, and a Cannabis Rex.
What song were you playing from 1:38 to 2:12? I remember the song from the 70s or 80s but can't quite remember the name of it and artist without the lyrics. Beautiful rendition though!
Hi Julian, what do you mean? You can't put a mod reverb tank on a solid state amp that has no reverb tank. You need a reverb tank in your amp, which tube amps with reverb typically have. And then there are tube amps with 'solid state' reverbs or amps with tube driven reverbs.

Who else besides me likes the accutronics Reverb better than the mod Reverb?
Man, that MOD tank sounds good.... much better than the accutronics imo

Accutonics sounds more natural to me and less noisy
well me and all my friends are waiting on the world to change. :D thanks for uploading^^
Got Ruby Tubes 3eb2c1b tank for my BJ, so far is awesome upgrade, almost to much reverb. Is MOD tank RUBY replica as someone says?

Hi does any one know what tank i wound need for surf reverb in a fender blues jr
which one is for a blues jr
Are the reverb tanks analogue ???
Any tubes or springs in them?
Both spring.
Wow accu surprisingly tinny and meh , just got a mod today after A/B test too
Would it be useless to put a mod on a solid state?

No it's not useless. I did it with my Fender Frontman 212r, and it sounds amazing!
Question! Is that a 3 spring accutronics or 2 spring?
