A few notes:
1 - You can use an alternate starting method (easier, in my opinion - This is how it is described in the pattern) - create the blue mesh with 36 double crochets separated by ch1 spaces. Then make your chain with your contrasting color. Weave it through the blue mesh, starting from the right side, making sure the working yarn stays to the right. Now work row 1B normally. You can wrap the contrast color around the main color edge to create your maze's "start" and "finish" after you finish adding the optional border, and this gives a nice clean look.
