I wrote this after yet another relationship which had to be secret because the girl's parents were foaming racists. It was a turning point for me, that I'm worth more than being a secret. And the next line is why it became the band name.
My dad has played this song a lot since I was a kid. I thought it was about getting broken up with because of a girl’s racist parents (and one of your comments supports that conclusion), but my dad thought it was about someone getting broken up with by a boy because of their homophobic parents, which would also be interesting. But either way an amazing song
Either is okay by me - the main point is the line, "If it's not worth fighting for, it's worth nothing at all." On one level, unless you're with someone who would fight the entire world to be with you, that's not love. On another level, unless you fight for what you believe in, you get dragged down in this world. If you're an outsider, like I've been my entire life, every day is a fucking fight just to exist, just to be seen. White Town has always been for the weird kids, for the freaks and the geeks. That's my tribe. ❤️✊🏽🖖🏽🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
