  • The film author Nina Heins and her cameraman Jonas Heil have thrown themselves into the full life of Morocco and let themselves be carried away by the magic of the Orient. (Next episode "Experience Iceland" is already in the ARD media library: 1.ard.de/island-erleben?yt=t ) Your round trip starts in Marrakech on the famous Djemaa el Fna square. For nine days they marvel at the vastness of the desert, rough coasts, historic cities and colorful markets, as well as numerous World Heritage sites - there is truly no shortage of sights in Morocco.

Just a few steps away is the old town of Marrakech, the medina. Bargaining is part of the ritual for traders in the souks, and tourists should also master it in order not to be seen as a "spoilsport". The journey continues to Ait-Ben-Haddou, where numerous Hollywood films have used the well-preserved, rambling fortress town at the foot of the High Atlas mountains as a backdrop. Ait Ben Haddou has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987.
A few hours' drive east, near the Algerian border, the filmmakers experience the Erg Chebbi desert on camelback and are amazed by the amenities tourists would find in a modern-day desert camp.
On the opposite side of the country, after the dry sandy desert, you go back to the sea. A cooking class in Essaouira offers the opportunity to experience the culinary delights of North Africa first-hand and to prepare a classic tagine yourself.
The cultural influences of the Arabs, the Berbers and the Europeans can be found everywhere in Moroccan everyday life, in the architecture as well as in the country's cuisine, conveying a feeling of 1001 nights at every step.
