      In this case, when it comes to Tua Tagovailoa, I completely disagree. I’m more flexible with Dak Prescott, but if I’m serious about winning a championship, I can’t keep rolling out with a guy who isn’t capable of overcoming elements. Not in the AFC. If I am the Dolphins, I would trade him to Atlanta for a second rounder and a pic swap in the first. Someplace in the NFC, where I don’t have to see him again, and he can compete where he doesn’t necessarily always need to go into cold-weather stadiums.

      @@daecesnob1e283 I hear you. I like the coach, he's smart. I would have flown them out and practiced in the cold for days & days before the game. The entire team look like they didn't want to be there not just Tua. Great coaches focus on the small details & why I dislike this one side of the ball focus. It detracts from the global details that help teams win strategically IMHO.

    • @daecesnob1e283
      @daecesnob1e283 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@shep1582 you’re right, practicing in the elements would’ve probably helped immensely. And I also understand that the defense wasn’t great, and they had injuries to the point where they were playing six guys that are not normal starters. But at the same time, if I pay Tua Tagovailoa $45-$50 million, I’m not going to be able to afford to put a great Defense on the other side. The players that would be playing with him consistently would be of the same level as the players that played on Saturday night. And again, I don’t think he is talented enough to overcome roster deficiencies like a bad defense, roster deficiencies, like a bad offensive line, non-ideal weather circumstances. That’s enough reason for me to go drop somebody else.

    If they double down on Tua Tagovailoa, as their long-term, starting quarterback, they are digging their own grave into mediocrity. The AFC & frigid January playoff football are synonymous, you can’t go into every playoff season, knowing you are most likely going to have to travel into the elements with a quarterback that limits your playbook to 40% of what it normally is. That is what you could tell was the case yesterday, because the Coach doesn’t trust him to make the throws when the wind is blowing, the air is frigid and the ball as hard as a rock. Every season is going to end with them getting outclassed, by superior quarterback if they decide to go that route. And I will have no empathy.

      Also I’m not saying it’s Tua’s fault that they lost, but I don’t think the Dolphins can ever win a championship with him as their quarterback, or unless they get the number one seed, or another warm weather/dome team has it to where they don’t have to play in harsh conditions.
      I would say to McDaniel: “Mike, you have a choice this off-season. If you tie yourself to this quarterback, if you choose to double down and stick with him as your guy, you’re jeopardizing your job. Once you pay him $45 million and he doesn’t have the good pieces around him, and he’s not talented enough to overcome the roster deficiencies, you’re going to find yourself on a one-way train to mediocrity. You’ll miss the playoffs two or three years consecutively or go one-and-done again then eventually get let go. It’s your choice.”

If you don't overly complicate the system and make them aware of there specific job you can have success . Now it appears they are doing this without senior leadership to guide the young guys on the field and another reason it's so amazing . The Packers and Houston are very similar . It's amazing how much less criticism guys like Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, even Lamar Jackson, etc receive when they have bad games with all the former ballers saying, "it wasn't Dak's fault." No, it wasn't all Dak's fault, the Dallas Defense was horrible too but it was definitely Dak as well. As a Packers fan for the last 33 years, I went from watching Mike Holmgren to Mike Sherman to Ray Rhodes to Mike McCarthy to Matt LaFleur coaching these teams.
    The thing that always bothered me about McCarthy was that for all of the regular season success he had in GB, he was AWFUL in the playoffs and I’ve said it almost since it happened…it felt like GB won their last Super Bowl in spite of Mike McCarthy and not because he led them. I think a lot of people grossly underestimate just how often Aaron Rodgers’ Godlike play at the QB position bailed out the Packers. He made bonehead in-game and personnel decisions at GB and to be completely honest, it feels like he’s done worse at Dallas.
    Don’t get me wrong, Mike McCarthy the person? Great man and I can understand why players like to play for him. Mike McCarthy the head football coach? Completely out of his element. I think he’s perfectly fine as an offensive coordinator, but as an HC? Just not good and with so many great coaches currently out there to potentially get, if I were the Cowboys, I’d make a move now.

This Joe Barry defense, almost identical personnel held San Fran to zero touchdowns in the Divisional round and Rodgers siphoned in on Davante missed open lazard play after play. He wouldn't run Lafleur's offense and refused to throw over the middle of the field. 2010 we had a elite defense. They played dangerously through that run. But the Cowboys put up big numbers against bad teams. They didn't do that against good teams. Pointing to scoring against the likes of the Giants and Commanders as a defense of their offense is just dumb.

    Mr Olsen, why didn’t we have home field? Because Tua stunk up the joint at home vs the Bills the week before. I understand we can’t just cut the guy, but to act like Saturday night was some fluke because of the weather. His w/l vs good teams in all kinds of weather the last 2 seasons has been terrible and in he was 1-6 vs good teams this year and not 1 300 yard passing game. Can we stop acting like he’s Joe Montana if Dolphins just stick with him?

    Greg is just wrong about the Dolphins. The mentality of "well who's gonna replace him?" is the same mentality that kept Tannehill with the Phins for 7 years. Also how do you look at Tua's career and seeing what Stroud & Love did in their first season and not move on? First year he needed to win against Buffalo backups to get into the playoffs, and he couldn't do anything, the next year we could only win when the defense had superb games and got tons of turnovers and points, and when we needed to win out to make the playoffs, we put up 3 points against the Titans, lost to Tannehill. His third year we got him the best WR in the league, and he gets hurt, so not his fault. But we did see a practice squad QB lead the team into Buffalo in his third start and put up a 31 point performance in the playoffs. Okay so his first two seasons he didn't have the support of the coach or enough offensive weapons, flip the script and you get him the best WR in the NFL, an offensive line (which in fairness had a lot of injuries) and you vastly improve the running game. The result? The most empty 4k yard season and failing against the Titans and Bills at HOME to win the division. The best team we beat was the cowboys... think about that. 4 years in, and we haven't seen any meaningful or clutch wins when we absolutely needed it. Oh, and let's not forget his three chokes against the Chiefs the first time (missed throw), inability to lead the team down the field against the Titans (don't forget he got outscored vastly that game because Miami got a pick six), and him staring down Chase Claypool in double coverage and forcing him the ball (but we're supposed to believe that he can go to his second read...). I want nothing more for than for him to be a great QB, but it feels like unless absolutely everything is perfect on offense we can't succeed, your line isn't always going to be perfect and your first read isn't always going to be open by 15 yards. McDaniel is another story who hasn't produced better results than Flores (he inherited a lot of good defensive players and has Tyreek, Flores in his last two years went 10-6 & 9-8, McDaniel has gone 9-8 & 11-5, Flores was just unlucky that the standings didn't allow him to get in, while you can make the case McDaniel has been lucky, especially the first year.

    Greg Olson is right, makes Mahomes look even better that Reid has never given Mahomes a good running game all these years to protect him and set up better passing plays, there is a reason Reid never won a SB before Mahomes. I hope Mahomes next coach is a Shanahan or McVay type

      He's spent most of his career on the bench at this point, his luck with injury so far isn't great. The whole receiving corps has speed at this point and green bay doesn't have to take deep shots to win. gb has a lot of competition at wr now, first time in like 12 years.

    The NFL has experimented with transitioning around 20% of its referees to full-time league employees. However, that program was shelved during the 2019 CBA discussions, and currently, there are no full-time officials on the NFL payroll.Jan 5, 2024

    I don't think the Cowboys offense actually was #1 in the league. When you take away points scored by the defense, I think the Cowboys actually finished like 3rd or 4th in scoring. Still good, but let's keep it real.

    Only one winner but many teams that could have won. If we were real honest about our assessments, we’d recognize the Cowboys were Super Bowl worthy for at least 3 of the last 20 years. We all know the best teams don’t necessarily automatically win but here we are debating why a team didn’t win.
