Nice score! I had the same engine on a Alumacraft runabout lake boat back in the eighties. It was a great engine, it would pull me up on one ski. Now I have a 1992 60 VRO on a Polar Kraft duck boat. I also have a Stinger 75, on a stand waiting for a fun boat to come along one day. Love the old OMC Loopers.
I have a '68 55 3 cylinder almost identical to this one. It was locked up and sat outside for 25 years. Got it turning and fired right up and ran like a champ.
These original loopers were total screamers, but their ignition systems were a bit touchy. I had a 1970 60 hp Johnson on a 16 ft. Rinkerbuilt that would fly across the water, but it had intermittent ignition problems that took me a couple years to figure out. Fuel quality is also a big deal with these motors. Good, fresh ethanol free fuel makes a huge difference. Always pull the fuel line and let the outboard run out of gas before you put it on the trailer and carburetor problems will be a distant nightmare.
Here in Brazil are many of these kind os engines. I was told that in USA, is not allowed anymore, because of the oil in water caused by this kind of engine. But its what we can see: a robust and almost enternal engine. It was not good that OMC desapeared, broke. This new 4 stroke engine, almost automatized here, is used only in great centers like, Santos, Rio de Janeiro, and sea great sea cities. The profissional fisherman here, or use diesel engines or if the boat is small, two stroke, Mercury, Yamaha From 5 to 15 CV. I mylslf, had 3 of this engines: a 15 HP 1982, a 50 HP 1995, very good, and a 85 HP 1972, better then the 50 HP. In spite of the fuel saving, I don't like 4 stroke engines. The sensors in sea enviorment, like baterry contect, must be cleaned two times a moth, other wise, don't run. The 2 stroke, sometimes stay 6 months whithout run, and after some atempts, run very well.

Cool video and great find! Now that you have it cleaned up and running you should be able to get at least double what you paid for it. 😄
🤨🤠
That 3 cylinder Evinrude went from 55 to 70 HP and they were bullet proof. All the guy should have done was hook up some fresh gas and hit th starter.
I have two of them. They also sound aggressive when you hole shot them.
