Such a tragic and amazing movie. I know alot of the history of the civil war and political corruption of that time in El Salvador because I met people who survived it. Now almost 40 years later, El Salvador is a safe nation meanwhile country's like Canada, United States and the UK are in social and economic turmoil.
Thanks for these. I listened to oliver to sleep now when I was struggling and his audio commentaries are easily the best I've ever heard. A brilliant man in so many ways. His calming voice lulls me to sleep but the knowledge and the literary quality keep me awake 😂
Agreed the way Boyle and Dr Rock are going down to Salvador smoking dope joking then when they get there they see a checkpoint and a burning body on the road. It was a very powerful movie. You're laughing one minute then the next scene you just stop like when they go to the dump site for the disappeared and the murder of Arch Bishop Romero to the murder and rape of the nuns.
This was one of Stone's best films along with "Talk Radio" I Thought Stone had balls making this film during Reagan's era. the rape and murder scene of the nuns was very disturbing.
@@index312 Yes, you are correct. I found it, finally. Strange that nobody on the internet had ever mentioned its existence before. I'll be sure to add an entry on RTC.
The garbage dump scene was so powerful. There were lots of white crosses in the yards of North Berkeley memorializing these dirty wars. The atmosphere of paranoia on the order of Malcolm Lowry was palpable in the theatre. One wrong move with either of the characters kept you on the edge of your seat.
At 22:41 Stone mentions Hitchcock. The Bay Area underwent a Hitchcock revival. The Bridge, Clay, Lumiere, and Northpoint theatres screened Hitchcock's catalogue starting with Rope. People looked in the Chronicles Pink Section to see what Mick LaSalle little man thought of a feature.
Most people in the Bay Area asserted that the way to meet women was to join the Sierra Club. When actually it was to go to a house with a STOP THE BOMBING OF EL SALVADOR banner. FMLN lapel buttons were big then.
Oliver remains quite a brilliant scriptwriter & filmmaker.

Such an awesome movie oliver stone is a maverick
People would kill for that Schlitz shirt James Woods has on.
Oliver Stone’s commentary on Wall Street was stellar. But this one, he tends to ramble alot
Because this movie in itself was a miracle that it even got made as he states on the commentary.
Thank you so, so much for uploading these.

A Stone commentary track i've never heard. Thank you.
Brilliant - great that you are doing this!
GREAT VIDEOS! Any chance you can do Born on The Fourth of July?…
Any chance of the U-turn commentary? Thank you for your fantastic uploads.
Sorry. According to RateThatCommentary(dot)com he never did the U-turn commentary.
He did. I owned it once on the region 1 dvd. I think it’s on the twilight time 2015 blu ray edition. It’s a great commentary.

Either Time Magazine or another paper referred to Daniel Ortega as: "The man that makes Reagan see read."
