Max Performance Takeoff London City Airport - Swiss Airbus A220

Making a maximum performance takeoff out of London City Airport on a cloudy day bound for Zurich. The CS100 is the largest aircraft that can operate into City Airport due to the short runway (1,508 m). Notice the engines throttle up full before brakes are released, and the aircraft is rotated after a very short takeoff roll and makes a steep climb out. Of course it helped we had ~15 kts of headwind.

Even at full power it doesn't seem very loud. I bet the rotation was exhilarating.

The GTFs make a nice hum spooling up, but then air rushes in and any more sound is just muffled out. You don't believe the engines are really revving much, but the push is massive and you realize they are more powerful than you imagined. There's some exhaust noise behind the engine, but ahead, all is eeroly quiet with just a small hum that you quickly stop noticing. You can converse quietly even at full throttle. Incredible!

The a321neo is loud, you prob had Pratt Whitney engines, but you can’t hear the whale as much as you can in the a220

Airborne in ~2,300 feet. Just incredible for a 125 passenger airliner. Wonder what the actual load was like that day...

I experienced an A220 takeoff at LCY that felt even faster than this - the pilot spooled up the engine with the brakes still engaged, and upon release the whole plane leaned back. A few seconds later, the engines spooled up even more and created a secondary push of power. The plane felt like it was in the air in 10 seconds - it was the most powerful take off I have experienced.

I fly often from LCY despite having a huge fear of flying. Every e-190 takeoff from there is similar as this too. It gets up to speed so quickly, then during rotation its like a never ending push into your seat and if the weather is bad it feels as though the engines are idling as soon as it powers down as you're rocking back and forth in the fog.

Totally normal for the A220, it's the hydraulics / PTU (Power Transfer Unit). Because the cabin is so quiet it does come through really loud. It goes away once the flaps are up. Even the A320 has a noisy PTU - it sounds like a dog barking, and often happens after engine start and after hard braking on landing.

What do you mean by "max performance" ? dont you need max performance to lift off??

No you don't. Max performance in this case means full thrust which virtually all aircraft need to do at this particular airport because of the short runway. It burns up a lot more fuel and causes a lot more noise pollution, which is why it doesn't happen all the time.
