I took the risk of buying a faulty/broken Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch with the hope of repairing it. It had a broken left stick and in this video I'll be showing you how I disassembled the controller, diagnosed the fault and repaired it without the need to buy any additional parts.

Thanks so much dude this served as a great example of how to get into this thing had a similar problem as you and was able to get it all glued thanks bro.
Excellent! You're welcome 😁
Awesome guide! This will definitely come in handy sometime haha. Also, the new shed setup looks fantastic on camera 😍
Thank you! I messed up the lighting a little on the next video, it looks like a disco, so keep an eye out for that one 😂
Thanks for your video! I love your motivation being to restore something that can work great if its restored. 🎉
Always better than throwing something away! It's had a lot of use since I fixed it, a great controller
The switch pro controller doesn't get enough love, its a brilliant controller so comfortable.
Yeah it's excellent
Thanks so much for your video, just helped me fix mine after I opened to change the sticks, the ribbon inside was not properly inside the clip maybe and the buttons were not working, as you said checking that first thing fixed the issue ❤
Really glad to hear that!
Great work Joe. I admire your restraint at each step, not rushing and taking your time! Result. Such a well built controller, too.
Thank you Matt. It's very hard not to go blundering ahead 😅
Thanks bro, my daughter dropped my controller this morning and I have the same issue. I’ll give this a try this evening.
Good luck!
yoo, thank you for teaching me
Excellent fix! I don't know if I'd have thought of trying to glue the stick back on, I'd probably have gone straight for a replacement module, but obviously this is cheaper and solderless! I wonder if the rod from the L/R hinge on a DS would have fit in the hole...
(Bonus fact: the battery in the Pro controller is the battery from a 3DS, which does make getting a replacement easier.)
Ahhhh I wish I'd thought of that! Such a great idea and I have loads of those rods. I suspect they would fit but maybe a bit long
That’s what he said! (Sorry)
@@Biadosaru 🤣
Hi. Have you ever tried polywatch on the DMG original screen lens?
I haven't but I can give it a try. I remember trying the Tamiya compound and it was no good, went a bit cloudy
@@JoeBleeps That's very nice of you but I don't want to waste your time. I will probably try it myself at some point. Thanks! ;)
I was asking because I plan to restore my childhood DMG. The screen has only small scratches so if there is a way to at least attenuate them, I would prefer not to replace it. I've seen people recommending Displex or Polywatch.
@@Superamak I'll be trying it out of curiosity 😁
@@JoeBleeps Awesome 😉
@@Superamak okay, so I tried it and it did improve it with a quick rub down. I tried to make a short video but it was so hard to get my camera to focus on the scratches! Deeper scratches no luck, they are better but still present, light wear polished out pretty well
Did I understand correctly, you could have replaced the caps and it would have worked?
It was the stick itself that was broken in this case, I thought it may have been the cap. Side note, it's had many hours of use since and no problems
My cat dropped my controller, and now whenever i play any games, i mive on my own. Do you think it'll work for that?
This guide will at least help you take the controller apart to see what's the matter! Let me know what you find
How do I fix loose thumb sticks for Nintendo switch joypads
On the joy cons?
It’s like a pro controller but you can also play handheld
@@Randomclips9182 I wouldn't be able to tell you without seeing it. I'm sure it can be fixed though!
what drill bit do i use
I didn't think I'd drilled anything on this? Apologies if I did and I just forgot
oh my bad
Can I take the modules off?
Like the whole stick assembly? Yes but it's tricky
How do you even break the stick like that?
I know right! Must have been brutal
Over time, I think the insert gets weak if it takes a few hits. It must have fell or had something fall on it, perhaps?
Fantastic D-pad? LOL
Are you not a fan?
I'm certainly not a fan, I had to put tape over the inside half of the contacts to prevent spurious inputs - try playing Tetris 99 without accidental slams!
@@Biadosaru I've never had any issues with it, and I like that it's nice and big. I'll have to try out Tetris 99 with it and see if this is the same!
