- Fans widely saw 2012’s Dredd as the movie that finally got Judge Dredd right. The 1995 Sylvester Stallone film was a notable flop, with Stallone’s career taking years to recover, and many thought the idea of making a movie based on the 2000 A.D character wasn’t going to be in the cards. However, the 2012 film, which starred Karl Urban in the lead opposite Olvia Thirlby and Lena Headey, was adored by fans and is considered one of the best sci-fi action films in recent years. Yet, financially it was a bust of a bust, and behind the scenes, there was a lot of drama involving the credited director, Pete Travis, and writer-producer Alex Garland (Ex-Machina, Annihilation, Men).
So WTF Happened to Dredd? We'll tell you all about it in this episode of WTF Happened to this Movie, written by Jake Dee, narrated by Dave Davis and edited by Juan Jimenez.

Karl Urban did a phenomenal job portraying Dredd. He let Dredd do the ''talking'', never once did he took off the helmet.Kept the audience immersed with the character.
My only complaint... is that Judge uniforms are too colorless. That's the one thing the previous movie NAILED. It just doesn't look like a Judge if there's no crimson red and gold highlights.
But, that is the only solid complaint I had... and you could fix it in post-production with (probably expensive) video editing.
Didn't even know it was Carl Urban until I watched the credits.

Watched this movie twice in theaters. Absolutely criminally underrated. Not as over the top or cheesy as the trailer makes it look. It's almost like a Dredd themed End of Watch movie. It's just a day in the life, and the day happens to be bad.
Yeah, I remember the trailer being really bad. Also, the 3D thing was a bad idea. I didn't have much interest in it but when I finally saw it, I needed to change my underwear.
The review wasn't geed so didn't go...got it on DVD...Regret not going to cinema.
3D films are a simple scam to squeeze out a few more dollars per ticket, and a majority of the viewers see it as such (especially those of us who wear glasses). What I didn't expect was to be wowed by the Slo-Mo so much. Very much. I liked how chaotic it seemed visually/aurally, and how it seemed to be an offshoot of the bullet time effect pioneered by the Matrix team. Certainly it could be overused, but it wasn't by my reckoning.

It's absolutely criminal that this film never got a sequel. And I applaud Karl Urban for not giving into his vanity and agreeing to play the entire film WITHOUT showing his face. Too few actors/actresses are willing to do that these days.
As I recall, they did want him to take it off but he was the one that insisted it stay on.
Could Judge Dredd be a reality? And are there similarities between Dredd and Blade Runner/Blade Runner 2049?

I saw it back when it first came out, in 3D, by myself, in an empty theater and it was a glorious cinematic experience. I legit believe that Dredd is one of the best action/sci-fi movies ever made.

he nailed it big time. I read the comics back in the 80's and thought this whole film and atmosphere it created where exactly what Dredd was. Up there with the best sci-fi films ever. F**kin epic.
One of my favourite Comic book movies. It's such a shame that they completely f'ed up the marketing, making people think it was a sequel to the 90's Stallone one by literally using music and imagery from the 90's film in the advertisement's (at least in the UK) and ruining the prospects of a sequel. This film so so perfect in capturing the original concept of the original comics and not make it look goofy and neuter the story to make it fit for kids (like the Stallone one did)
Yeah this movie was excellent and it sucked that stallones shit sandwich was associated to this movie..Karl Urban nailed it.

Agreed about the marketing! I've watched the film at least 3 times on video, but never knew it was in theaters until long after the stopped showing it. They somehow flubbed the marketing for Edge of Tomorrow too, and that's my all time favorite action film (for now).
Yeah if it wasn't marketed as a 3d film it would have done really well. Sadly it got caught up in the post avatar 3d knock offs.

I was lucky enough to watch this in theaters, I remember leaving unable to stop thinking about how amazing it was! Karl's Dredd portrayal is perfect. He truly embodied Dredd.

If that is true, you would be in the same position as I am. I hate 3D, but it was the only option to watch the movie at the time. I enjoyed it, but the 3D experience ruined it for me, and I waited for it to come out on Blu-ray. I didn't recommend it to any of my friends because the 3D was very dark and you barely saw anything, based on my experience. but I think that was the reason why it failed. Seriously, back then, there was no 2D option for that movie when it came out, not where I was at the time.

This movie DEMANDS a sequel or even a whole series. It's great on its own but it also feels so much like an intro to something greater. I wanted more as soon as it was over.

What struck me about Dredd was how Karl Urban managed to nail the character's essence while keeping his iconic helmet on his head.
It also helps that Urban has been a fan of the character from his boyhood
He’s an amazing actor and it’s a shame how he (and the movies) doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Not many actors would be able to pull off only showing their lower face, but Urban did it exceptionally well.
@@jakemills7829 Part of me is glad it wasn't a huge hit. I love the movie; and I think the follow up would have been ruined by a studio, and would loose a bit of it's awesomeness. This way it stays a bit of a hidden gem. Like Lucky Number Slevin. No disappointing or average follow up. Just a sneak peak into a day in Dredd's world.

For me, it's not so much him, keeping the helmet on that I find interesting, It's the fact that he presented the character so well with it on that he didn't have to. It's more about the quality of his performance than the lore-piece about the character never taking his helmet off (again, for me). Stallone had to ditch the helmet so he could Stallone. Urban didn't have to do that because that's not what was important about his performance.
Okay, best acting with only his mouth: Urban in "Dredd" or Weller in "Robocop"?
Probably the most underrated movie I have seen in the cinema in the last ten year's.
When I left the cinema I was absolutely blown by every aspect of it and in my eye's I regard it as a masterpiece.
I could say the same thing about Edge of Tomorrow, followed by District 9 and then Dredd!
Garlands other epic movie, Annihilation, is also criminally underrated.

Yes, District 9 had almost a William Gibson quality in that you have high tech development being placed next to a ghetto.
Same with Boss Level, box office flop, yet simple but well made action film.
Grew up with 2000 A.D. Judge Dredd,and especially his battles with the Dark Judges are epic. You would have thought there would have been an entire box set worth of Judge Dredd movies by now. An entire post apocalyptic world with fantastic stories and characters developed decades ago.
It takes a visionary to make a rich man richer, and that rich man has to be able to see the vision himself first.
Sorta glad hollywood hasnt raided 2000ad.

I saw this in 3D and was blown away with how well they handled the 3D aspect in comparison to most films at the time. I would then go to work and tell people how good the movie was, and they'd just stare blankly with me and say they'd never heard of the movie. It was definitely a lack of good publicity that killed the movie at the box office. People I'd tell about the film that had actually heard about it just assumed it was a sequel to the Stallone film rather than a new, more authentic adaptation.
couldn't agree more, the 3D was, and still is, the best i have ever seen in a movie. It actually has a purpose and adds to the film. Not just 'lets wave something at the audience every 15mins for no reason'.

I remember seeing this the movie theater in 3d. As much as I enjoyed the outlandish looks of the 1995 film, I really love the grit and dirty atmosphere of Dredd. Karl Urban and Lena Headey were fantastic.

Karl Urban is one of the most entertaining actors of our age, he's always interesting to watch no matter the role. Dredd was terrific and should have been a bigger hit

I dug this movie so much that when I couldn't find it on Netflix, and it was only being shown on Prime with ads, I bought it on blu ray. It now sits on the same small shelf that occupies the rest of my comic book movies. I really wish they'd make the series, and sequel, but only with Karl Urban because he completely owns the character. I can't think of Dredd as being played by anyone else.
I didnt even know he was dredd until i researched. He totally his personality as dredd. Hell, even acting as billy butcher in the boys he was flooring it.
As others have commented, I went and saw this twice in the theaters also. First time took my son and daughter, saw it in 3D. Second time, me and my son went and saw it in the normal release. He needed a sanity break from school that day and this film fit the bill. Still watch it yearly, and keep the soundtrack on hand to listen to. I honestly think this is the best representation of Dredd we will ever get, and I'm fine with that. Its hard to surpass perfection. There was no flaws with this film, as an action/sci-fi film, or as a Dredd story. It's like 89 Batman. It just cant be topped.
I can only dream they will do a remake of the original Starship Troopers at the exact same quality and integrity of this. We need more serious satire like this in an endless sea of mindless super hero movies.

This was and still is by far one of the most underrated films I have seen. The re-watch-ability is pretty solid as i can always throw it on for entertainment.
Truly underrated! This movie deserves soooo much more praise! If it had been mad today where comic adaptations are very popular than we would be on our way to a sequel.

Which part did you find realistic? The Mega City hastily built and poorly designed in a radioactive world? The mutant with telepathy? Perhaps it was the drug that genuinely gave users the super power to perceive time in a way that wasn’t just a dump of adrenaline that would kill the user? The first aid kit that pretty instantly heals up a very serious injury enough to be combat functional? Honestly kinda cool that you say that it’s realistic when it anything but, it means it thoroughly suspended your disbelief, you bought into its world, even the part where the fascists can convince you the viewer they are the good guys in this scenario when the judges are just another gang.

This is a true action masterpiece. I think if there was to be a sequel today, it would definitely benefit from the cult status it aquired over the years. The fanbase exists now.
Never saw it in theater’s and didn’t even know that it was a comic adaptation. Saw it online and was impressed by how gritty and badass this movie was, no wonder it gathered a dedicated fan base over the years.
I absolutely love the Carl Urban characterization of Dredd. I had no idea that Alex Garland had planned a Judge Dread trilology. That is mindblowing! I hope that Urban has the opportunity to once again dawn Dredd's helmet. It would be an amazing series on HBO Max. It could easily rival WestWorld or possibly even Game of Thrones.
It is a crime that the masterpiece known as "DREDD" (2012) still hasn't gotten a proper sequel or two after almost a decade of waiting for it 🙄 !
Respect to Karl Urban for not taking off the iconic helmet at any point throughout the entire film 🙏🙏🙏 !

The fans killed that baby in the crib. Some fool made an online petition to show the studio how much the fans wanted a sequel. They showed up with a million signatures.
The studio was underwhelmed and just shrugged saying "this property was never gonna be worthwhile. There's only a million odd fans."
They wanted too see ten million minimum. Anything less was just a reason not to try.
Not even close to resembling a "masterpiece"....Of course they didn't have him take off the helmet. Literally NOBODY cares about Karl Urban. Its not rocket science, the 95 film isn't going to star Stallone and have a helmet on him the entire time, he's an actual star. Beyond The Boys nobody still cares about Karl Urban, they MIGHT remember is was a great Dr.McCoy, in a pretty decent Dredd movie and a decent Doom film that didn't have much to do with the storyless game.

This movie is perfect from start to finish, it's a perfect example of all of the right elements coming to gather, all the way from spot on casting for all characters down to a grounded story and plot line
I must say it was a pleasure to work on this film, was the highlight of my career in film. Was professional on set but inside I couldn't believe I was part of this.
This movie, is freaking epic. Karl Urban and the WHOLE CAST was perfect, the music, was PERFECT, the visuals were GORGEOUS, it was freaking BRUTAL and is a truly underrated masterpiece of comic book movie history. Granted, this is my opinion...but to see Carl Urban go from playing Dr. "Bones" McCoy so beautifully, to play Dredd.....just....wow....! And he has been amazing in the show The Boys as well!!! I so badly want more of his Dredd! Bring back the whole cast that didn't die in the first movie!

Regret not watching in cinemas, since this is the only movie I really want to experience in 3D.
The 3D was a little janky. It's better in 2D in my opinion. I saw it both ways.
A few years ago I bought a PSVR from someone for very cheap and he had a few 3D Blu Rays with it and this was one of them, and while it’s definitely not the same as seeing it in theaters in 3D, it’s pretty cool to watch this at home whenever I want. I’ve watched it quite a few times and it’s a fun time for sitting back on the couch at the end of the day. I’d definitely like to watch it on a better VR though to see how good it can look.
By FAR the best movie ever released in 3D. Was lucky enough to get a cinema viewing, and have watched the regular Blu-Ray maybe a dozen times since - an absolute classic. If it ever gets a limited/specialist big-screen 3D release in the future, I'd for sure track it down - it's THAT good!
Got the 4K UHD Blu-ray, definitely one of the best movies you can have, just pure action and great audio from start to finish. Highly recommended, would love a sequel.
iv watched this many times, love it , I think the chemistry between the actor who played Anderson and Dredd played by Karl Urban was awesome, and worked so well, it was gritty focused and really fun to watch, good pacing too.
One of the most underrated films going. I grew up reading Judge Dredd in 2000AD and this was a great representation of the comic strip and how I pictured the film should be.
As a break of MCU material, Dredd is breath of fresh air, and hopefully Urban's popularity thanks to The Boys and his character Billy Butcher help. I'm all in for a Dredd sequel, and maybe for the good times another game hopefully made by Rebellion, I really liked Dredd vs. Death, it was a pretty fun shooter.
dredd sequel yes, woke dredd sequel no. i prefer we leave it like that, it's a bad time we are living for movies. a dredd sequel, dredd would be a lesser human than anderson and he would be the butt of the joke. anderson would probably be black for no reason and gay just for the sake of inclusivity.... nope... i prefer we don't get it

Solid movie. Solid cast. Really captured the feel of the comics. Definitely deserves a broader recognition.
I remember going to watch this in the cinema when it was released, I saw it in 3D and I was just blown away by it. I was the only person in the cinema watching it and couldn’t get over its lack of box office success. I’m glad it eventually got itself a following because it deserved so much more
I really liked this version of Dredd as it is far superior the 1995 Stallone version. Unfortunately the studio fucked up the movies marketing and put it out in 3D. Karl Urban put in a killer performance that was really faithful to the Dredd of the comics. He is essentially the highlight of this movie and he has a much better raspy voice than Christian Bale's Batman. He truly kicks a$$ and the final showdown with Headey's MaMa is truly satisfying and I dig the way he outthinks the bad guys who think they have him cornered.
He had an idea, and didn't know for sure if it would work, but he knew what he had to do.
I actually prefer the Stallone version. I didn't even really like the Karl Urban version initially. It took me awhile of watching him in other stuff to get used to his acting style, etc before I started to appreciate it. I appear to be one of the few to feel this way, but then again, I haven't read any of the comics of 2000AD, etc.
One of my all-time favorite movies - it's so incredibly intense that I have been able to watch it 10x just for the atmosphere. Totally captures the comic book character. The interactions between Dredd and Anderson are perfect to a point I've hardly ever seen anywhere else. It's this extraordinary mixture of skepticism turning into well contained appreciation.
I was so excited for this adaptation when it was released I remember buying multiple DVD copies and giving them away to friends to show my support. This needs to come back!!
Dredd was an amazing movie, I was sad that they never continued to make more of them just on different missions. Slowmo was a cool drug
I don't remember this movie being in theaters. I watched it streaming a few years after its release and was blown away. What a shame that there was not more fanfare for this gem. I would have loved to have had that trilogy.
You can tell Karl Urban is a fan of the character. Unlike Stallione he portrayed Dredd as a tough and brutal man in an equally tough and brutal society, who swiftly dispensed justice (and never removed his helmet). I think at least part of the problem is the memory of Stallone's Judge Dredd, and he is a British cultural icon who may not be so familiar in other countries. I grew up in the 70's and 80's reading 2000 AD, so I was very familiar with his world. It's a shame we didn't get a sequel, Dredd against the Dark Judges would have been awesome.
After watching this movie, I went and read just over 2200 issues of Dredd. I'm glad I did, it's really great stuff
Every criticism of the marketing in this case is absolutely true. I remember seeing the lettering on the marquee at the theater for Dredd, but had no idea whatsoever what it was, and I saw no commercials on TV for it when it was being released. I ended up watching it two years later and loved it.
Saw it in theaters with my friends back then and absolutely LOVED IT!! The 80's action movie Hollywood needed badly both then, and now. Such a shame we haven't ever gotten a sequel. It's been a decade and we should be at least a trilogy's worth in by now. So much depth to the characters, and NOT cookie-cutter heroes and villains, so much world building, and of course great action and set pieces.
I first encountered Judge Dredd in 1978 (while visiting my grandmother in Ireland, I pickup up a copy of 2000AD as the local supermarket), and was immediately hooked (six year old mind completely blown). I was thus disappointed when the 1995 film came out and had the prefect world filled with lackluster versions of the characters (I blame Stallone's vanity... Dredd should NEVER take the helmet off). When "Dredd" came out, I was overjoyed to finally have a real version of the character on screen in Karl Urban.
I desperately want to see more of Urban as Dredd, whether it's another movie or a streaming series... as series is probably a better idea, have the first season weave in some background on the Judges and Mega-City One, then tie up with the original "Dredd vs Death" story line (Anderson trapped in a block of Boing instant plastic at the end); then season two starts with more regular Mega-City One stuff before bringing in the rest of the Dark Judges in the second half of season two... yes, I've put far too much thought into this.

I agree, a tv show would fit Dredd much better than a movie. if you think of the comic strips each one could easily be made into a half hour to 45 minute tv episode. Then the bigger stories like Judge Death, Necropolis, The Day the Law Died, etc, etc could be bigger stories over multiple episodes.
Happy to say I did see this in theaters..To this day this is still the best 3-D I’ve ever seen..I pray for a sequel daily

I completely missed the movie in theaters, never even heard of it and I like to follow movies. I ended up seeing it on Amazon and was like "when did they make another Dredd movie? Must have been made for streaming. Absolutely loved it. One of the best comic book movies I've seen.

This was honestly as close to a perfect adaptation as could be, I think. It's a shame that the masses didn't give it the chance it deserved. Here's hoping that Urban's recent efforts to get it back in the conversation are enough to resurge interest.
As a "Dredd Head" this was the film that salved the wound left by that other film. Saw it on TV and the moment the radio said "fifth annual Fergie Day Riots" I knew I was seeing a fan-made piece. Urban "was" Dredd. It was right. Even the ending was right. What a relief.
I would still love to see this movie world expanded in the big screen. Hell, even an HBO GoT level of production....
This is one of the most criminally underrated films ever released.

This film is a low-key masterpiece. Simple story, characters to care about, great dialogue and actors - fantastic! I also thought the 3D was well done, I remember being mesmerised when I watched this in the cinema.

This is one of the best movies of the last 15 years. I would gladly watch 3 more "Life in the day of Dredd" movies like this, it was awesome, and has become a meme with my friends. IE Society is becoming Peach Trees, or "Dont eat booty, that's how Peach Trees happens". Also a Batman movie that is just "A life in the day" would be awesome too.
I could easily see myself getting addicted to Slo-Mo ...which leads to Peach Trees :D

Having never read any of the comics, and having been subjected to the godawful Stallone film as a kid, I was one of the people who wrote this movie off without a second thought (also, in 2012, I didn't realize how awesome Karl Urban is). So imagine my surprise when I finally got around to watching it a few years ago. It's too bad that it was released in the days of streaming video, because if it had been released back when people had to buy or rent movies to watch at home, if would have made it's money back many times over. I think it would have become one of those "home video blockbusters," like "Austin Powers," "The Big Lebowski," or the original theater flop/home video money-maker, "Office Space."
I didn't see this in theaters because of the 3D push alone. Saw it at home and fell in love with it. Karl Urban's performance is perfect.

Urban was great in this movie. This is one of my favorite action movies of all time. Even the tactics the judges used when clearing a room or hallway was on point. I really wished they gave us another one if these movies.

Love this film !!! The drug scenes particularly were gorgeous !!! Massively underrated , Karl Urban was exactly what I believed Dredd to be like !! Absolute madness not to develop the franchise further !!!
Easily one of my favorite movies of recent years. So mad we never got more of this. This was absolutely a perfect example of failed marketing. I remember thinking during first trailer how crappy it looked. So glad I actually gave it a shot once it hit made its way onto streaming services.
Loved this movie. Really wish a trilogy could’ve been made. Kind of wild how people can overlook quality films and yet come to the theater for mindless bullocks like twilight and fifty shades.

This is literally the best live action 3D blu ray ever made. It's so well done. It's also the only film I immediately rewatched after first viewing.

Fun fact Stallone didn't want to remove dredds helmet as he understood the lore but the higher ups at the studio demanded he take it off .
Don't believe him. He made many changes to the script using his star power to bully those who didn't agree with him.
I remember missing this in the movie theatrical release, and later still wanting to watch it, rented it on streaming months later. I was BLOWN AWAY. I didn't expect much, but it was a very good movie.

As a longtime 2000AD/Judge Dredd comic fan, the 1995 abomination made me throw-up in my mouth.
Dredd from 2012 is an underrated masterpiece... I wish there had been sequels.

I have not seen anything before or since this one that so greatly captures the essence of its comic books as well as this one movie does. It's like picking up a random Judge Dredd comic and reading it, and this was a day in his life. That's what makes it so utterly fantastic (and the visuals didn't hurt either)
One of the very best superhero (antihero) movies of all time. This movie not having a sequel is still one of the greatest tragedies of modern cinema!

The best comic adaptation yet seen on the big screen! Saw it in the cinema (sadly only once) and was blown away. Was confused by the poor reception at the time.
I was 9 when Dredd came out in 2000AD, I am now 53 and have been an avid fan of the comic strip and character since with all the graphic novels. In my opinion if they had the Stallone movies sets, backgrounds, uniforms, bikes and weapons but with Urban as Dredd and a similar script as Dredd the movie it would have been a huge success, or at least better than it was.
I don't think Stallone's version had any impact on Urbans, there was a 17 year gap between them, more than enough for audiences to be interested in a new take of the character in a movie. I am 50/50 on Dredd the movie. I LOVE Karl Urban as Dredd and the script was perfect as was the acting by all involved. My only real complaint was the change in Mega-City 1, the uniform, the gun and the bike. It might seem to most that these are inconsequential to the movie, but for a fan they aren't, they are as much Dredd as the character itself. Stallone got those right 17 years before Dredd was made, so why couldn't the people making Dredd do the same? Mega-City 1 stretches from Boston to Florida in the comics, here its much smaller. The look of it in the movie reminds me of a current day city in America, South Africa or countless other places in the world, not some futuristic city and the Blocks look out of place. Now I expect most of this is down to budget, still, its a shame they couldn't bring the look of the Dredd comic to screen.
Yes this movie was severely underrated and yes it is much better than the Sylvester Stallone's version.

Dredd is the perfect example of giving the effects team just enough leash.
Annihilation is the example of when you give them too much. Dredd uses the effect to enhance what you see. Annihilation uses it as the gimmick.
Extremely underrated and an excellent film, also the soundtrack is amazing. A sequel or series should be made.
Absolutely EPIC action film! I read the comic a bit as a kid. I also really like the original Dredd film with Stallone. I know it's nowhere near as good as the later film but it will always be a guilty pleasure of mine.

Great review and yeah, Urban was a badass in this movie. It's one of my faves, and I was a 2000AD collector from about 10 years of age.
"Dredd" was hands down the best Judge Dredd comic book adaptation of any character.
I died a little inside when Stallone butchered Judge Dredd, a comic character/setting I adored. I watched 2012's Dredd with baited breath and loved it. As mentioned here, this movie had groundwork to set, so I'm glad they didn't go right into the Dark Judges, or anything else too eccentric. It hit all the right beats, and Urban nailed it. The helmet never came off. That movie *got* it. Dredd's character growth was perfect. One line, right at the end. I was so hyped and waited for any news of a sequel and, sadly, am still waiting. I do think marketing and 3d did it in. 3d was seen as a gimmick by that point and, for a movie like this, really wasn't needed. And let's all remember, this wasn't "Dredd", this was proudly advertised as "Dredd 3D"! I think just having "3D" in the title did serious damage. Fingers crossed that this somehow bounces back.
Saw this in the theater, and loved it! I'd love to see a sequel or a streaming series someday. I remember at the time wondering why nobody was talking about this movie, what a shame the world slept in on it!

I remember seeing trailers for Dredd 3D but only on CZcams. Loved the premise of Dredd being locked in the building, so I saw it in theaters in 3D and thought the 3D was done really well. I remember that guys cheek being blown off reaching over and past the black box on the bottom of the screen. Loved Dredd, and then saw Ex Machina knowing Alex Garland was involved and loved it as well.
This movie is one of my favorites. Everyone I know that has seen it, absolutely loves it and wishes for a sequel or a series with Urban. I would like Olivia Thirlby to return as well.
I loved this film! Was surprised it didn’t get as much fanfare that it deserved. Hopefully, the more people watch this, and ask for a sequel, maybe we might get one.

I saw this film half a year ago for the first time. Actually got me into a 2000. A.D binge and I am old enough to have seen the 1995 film which was probably why I only saw the Urban version this late.

The theory and reason I remember from the release timeline was that the script for Dredd was leaked or somehow got to the Raid team. They were quicker to production and release compared to Dredd which had a lot post production even after filming wrapped. I enjoy both films and comparable as if you want martial arts action watch the Raid if you want gun and explosions watch Dredd. Both are great, just terrible timing and result. It's getting recognized now but too little too late unfortunately
I hadn't even known this movie existed til years after it was released, but the moment I found out about it I watched it and loved it. It was wonderful seeing a movie from people who actually _got_ the character, and the perfect actor in Karl Urban (whom I am convinced could play anything. Leonard McCoy _and_ Joe Dredd? Damn.)
I used to read the Dredd comic back in the days before they made the movies. I was disappointed with the Sylvester Stallone version.
However, when this version was released back in 2012, i didnt think of it much until i saw it...What a masterpiece, Karl Urban did Dredd justice as well, perfect casting.
I remembered how stunned i was after watching it, the movie itself was a master piece...well still is and how the marketing team managed to screw this movie up is a perfect school example of, 'hownot to do things'.
Dredd needs to come back, sequel or TV series, whatever, just bring Dredd back again! (with Karl Urban ofc).
