I watched my friend catch a 42# king at a pier in Emerald Isle. He was using a big spinning reel on a short, heavy rod and I just remember everyone making a big deal over it because it was so big. I believe I remember those rums too.

I'd be happy to just get my first red fish or a big drum. Get a king like that would be a blessing too.

Like the other guy said is it helps fight. It negates that issue with normal conventional rod where’s sometimes it might make you tilt on a side if fighting a big fish

@@CarolinaShoreFishing you as well I wish I could get back to pier fishing me and my dad did it for 23 years I remember the day I caught my Cobia they were 27 king runs 3 Cobia caught don’t remember how manny kings we’re caught and there were 3 tarpon hooked 2 of which spoled the fishermen and one broke off i’ll never forget as long as I live. There were greenies covering the top of the water and they were big 3 to 4 inches long and everything in the ocean was feeding off of them. It made the mullet run look like a joke I know that’s hard to believe that I promise you that’s the truth.

How do you get the bait out there and are you using a bobber ? Or free lining
Theyre using a king fishing pin rig set up. There's an anchor rod(long rod) with just an anchor on there and a fighting rod with bait and rig. Then theres a popoff rig that is what keeps the bait up on top. Some people have popoffs that stay on their fighting rod but most have them stay on the anchor whole fighting.
