I love when Ridley is on. He always just ignores everyone’s questions and rambles on about whatever he wants. He’s the best 😂😎🤘🏻
Movie is dogshit and insultingly bias
Hahaha ikr. He's the only guy that can ramble away but still be interesting, even though the stuff he says has nothing to do with the question asked haha.
Whenever Ridley talks about him being successful commercial director, you take a shot
This is exactly why Ridley is such a douche lol.
Both Ridley and Nolan have such a calmly blunt way of saying things.
It’s the English in them
There's a polite brutality to English culture. "Godzilla with a bowtie" is what John Oliver once called it.
@@roberta9734- along came a Brit
Usually he’s pretty snippy in interviews but I love how open and expressive he is here
I hope I'm half as energetic and healthy as Ridley Scott when I'm 85.
He's in Georgine stamina are off the charts. Often, I believe, he has had four different films in various stages of production going at the same time. For me, out of every four films, one of them will be pretty bad, two of them will be good, and the other one is a masterpiece. I think his average is about one masterpiece for every four films.
Ridley has become a classic director over the years whose movies never get old although the time goes by. So, that why I am glad he's back to work with Joaquin Phoenix again after they had been worked together in Gladiator.
Vibes were IMMACULATE throughout the interview. Good work lads.
We tried!
17:01 Scott: *Brings tears to my eyes*
(plot twist)
Yessss!! Ridley is one of my favorite directors! So glad to see him return! 😄 Also, get well soon Sean! 🙏
I hope Sean is feeling better now. Sending him good vibes for a speedy recovery!
Sean's face at 10:30, all it needs is "Hello darkness my old friend" to start playing.
@21:02
Is what you're here for.
But really… watch the whole thing
@@seanoconnell2073 I did. Enjoyed the rest of the interivew. You guys were great!
@@MichaelDA81Appreciate it!
MVP, thank you 😂
"he's forgotten more about filmmaking than any of us will ever know"
That's a good quote and compliment
Another excellent show guys! Such a pleasure🤘
I love how Ridley is at the fuck you I'll say whatever i want stage of life and his career. Hes done and accomplished everything in regards to cinema at this point. Its simply an honor watching him work in his twilight years. And he doesn't seem 80. Hes more alert and perceptive then some 20 somethings. Its like he hasnt aged at all. I think its because filmmaking is such a passion of his that it's effectively keeping him young. Their you go, the fountain of youth seems to be passion.
Ridley is a living legend. I really enjoyed Napoleon in IMAX.
Napoleon? In IMAX? Guessing from the ferocity of the battle scenes that some form of PTSD will have formed.
Fire!
@@jorgefiguerola1239 battle scenes were definitely intense 😅
I’m glad to hear it
Brilliant interview. Really enjoyed it.
Been waiting for this one. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great interview guys! Haven’t had time to listen to your Joaquin interview but will try soon.
Always a good start to my day when another episode pops up on the feed! And happy Thanksgiving to everyone! :)
Same to you! We’ll see you Friday.
Bonaparte was the Hitler of the 19th century. Both had delusions of conquering Europe, both failed to conquer Russia, and both said "I want only peace." Both megalomaniacs plunged Europe in a colossal bloodbath for personal ambition. Both plundered priceless art treasures from the countries they invaded. Both armies raped and killed civilians. And both were outfoxed by the British. As a footnote, there is a photograph of Hitler in 1940 at Bonaparte's tomb...
Also, both were dictators and have been described as sociopaths. Both saw themselves as victims. Neither one saved his people; they harboured nothing but contempt for their people. When their empires crumbled around them, they sacrificed the people for their own vanity.
Great Interview, love you guys and I love Ridley 😘
Absolutely loved this interview with the master himself. You guys were on fire in this interview. 🙌🔥🙌
Kubrick Is God.
@@alexloughman7148 Subjective.
I love listening to Ridley. He's frank, funny, and does not give f***. He's kind of a pleasure to watch and listen to. Always enjoy his interviews.
So Proud of you guys all deserve this and so many more
Thanks, Victor. Means a lot, friend.
@@seanoconnell2073happy thanksgiving hope you are feeling better
I would give 10 years of my life just to shake his hand, have a coffee and listen to him talking about movies.
Ridley is such an inspiration.
The fact that ridley does it so well at this age....his movi game is next levell🎉
Great interview questions lads
Hopefully you guys have a good thanksgiving thanks for the Wednesday drop very thankful for this show and the community you all have built
Congrats! Proud of you guys
Great interview ! But does anyone else miss the really long podcasts they used to do. I’m talking about the ones that were 1 hr 45 min - 2 hours
We still do them! This week was just nuts with travel, Thanksgiving, etc.
It's lovely and cute that Jake's dogs appear in the video
He doesn’t answer Sean’s question at 9mim because he doesn’t know. It would have been tasked to a separate team, there’s no way he would have been that involved if he was shooting across 62 days. So he swerves it, classic move. Still a great interview lads!
He’s the only filmmaker I would still go out to the movie theater to watch with few exceptions (Oppenheimer) and it’s always an intense experience
Only Kevin would ask a 35 second two part question to an 85 year old director with a short attention span. Read the room, buddy. His "Really?" was so embarrassing because you can tell he thought he'd landed some viral quote in a desperate bid to slobber over Nolan.
I was an extra in the very first scene with Joaquin at the beginning of The Master!
I did not say I knew him… I said he tapped me on the shoulder once!😂
Brilliant! How was the set experience of The Master?
If I ever become a successful filmmaker like I want to be, I feel like I'd be just like Ridley Scott. An absolute love and fascination for film, but at the same time just do what I think is dope and not give a fuck. His answers to every question are gold lmao.
Hopefully you don't start with two great films and make crap for the rest of your career like he did.
I m probably his biggest fan...when I was studying Film making in USA we were supposed to give presentation of our favorite Director n I gave presentation on Sir Ridley Scott...n I kept talking n talking for half an hour about GLADIATOR ❤...that's one of the most perfect film ever made n every scene is a work of art n thats Russel Crowe's best performance...my life was n is so influenced by Sir RIDLEY SCOTT'S Film Gladiator that I have some email id's with d word gladiator in it...😊..Sir Ridley Scott makes films of opposite genres,he made Blade Runner,Alien n he made American Gangster...I wanna write here for 30 minutes about him 😂
I hope they play freebird too man I love that song. Could listen to Ridley Scott talk about Stanley Kubrick all day long. Good vid loved it.
feel better Sean
Omg. Thoroughly enjoyed the interview. Thanks so much for a great job done ❤ 33:54 I love Silence though! I loved Scorsese mentioned that character! 😅
Jake doesn't need co-hosts, he is the Highlander of entertainment media coverage.
good job guys
Long Live Sir Ridley Scott!
I just came from seeing Napoleon. You are right that this film makes assumptions you are familiar with European history or jumps in time without providing explanations to figures or countries or why they are fighting.
Im kinda worried for Gladiator 2 man. Gladiator is one of the best films of all time for me and Ridley Scott has been hit and miss lately…and ppl have been saying Napoleon is not great. Fingers crossed
Ridley has been hit or miss for 40 years. Mostly miss
@@tellemstevedave5559 Lol…but when he makes a hit..it’s a classic. fingers crossed gladiator is oscar worthy. pls god
this needs 10 million views wtf
watch more episodes if you are new here they have had plenty of big names
I want Ridley's expanded mini-series cut of 1492: Conquest of Paradise!
Sir Ridley just doesn't give a fuck ❤
This reminded me of that scene at the end in "Napoleon", when Napoleon sits with the young guys on the ship trying to impress them. Ridley must have sure made fun of himself with that scene. :)
I always find funny how Ridley sometimes doesn't really answer the question... it feels like the non-answer he gives is supposed to be the preface but gets carried on his own train of thought and ends up forgetting the original question.
I find it funny because it happens to me all the time lol
he's at a level zone/age where he really doesn't care what anyone things .....
He's very technical ..... wish he did masterclass
Sir Ridley Scott Drinking Game: Every time he doesn't answer a question, take a drink. #21yearsandolderOnly #drinkResponsibly #its5oClockSomewhere #westcoastNotificationCrew
To anybody who is wondering what wrist watch Sir Scott is wearing, it's the Breitling Endurance Pro. ; )
Is it that watch companies intention to have him wearing it the way he's wearing it.. ?.. facing away from his eyes, sitting on the far side of the wrist..
@@arthurcharlesharrison1361 Just wearing it nonchalantly, nothing more
9:00 🤣 Ridley didn't answer Sean's question at all 😂
Wildman Ridley is 86 years young!
Jake looks like a cross between Tom Cruise in Collaterol and Robert DeNiro in Heat.
*C'est moi!*
I love Ridley Scott
Ridley Scott's first film was The Duellists not Alien
Still love The Duellists its one of those that if its on i watch it.
20:58 "There's a very good company called A23"
A24 fans: Seriously?
You know what's crazy? Numerous critics are shitting on this movie and yet there is almost defiance in average audiences to go see this movie regardless.
It's like a collective roar from people who've had enough of marvel and want to see other original films again beginning with Barbie
The movie is complete joke hit piece. Pretty unforgivable and obvious bias. There’s not a single redemptive scene with Napoleon he is shown to be a joke the entire movie
This movie is exactly at marvel level
Shame i was really looking forward to this.
Ridley rushes his movies and it shows with Napoleon. As he says “The plan is, there is no plan”
The added hour and a half of moments and information in the 4 hour cut is going to make this movie really sing. Ridley only shoots greatness
I LOVED Napoleon, but I found it just too short, 2h40min is nowhere near enough for such a story ... just dying for the 4h cut, I think it will solve so much!! I'm crossing crossing fingers that we get the full version in cinemas at some point, at least a very limited release in alternative cinemas ... here in Paris they do often do things like that!!🤞🏻🤞🏻
I’ve seen others make this comment and now I can’t stop noticing it. how come Kevin spends 3 times as long as Jake and Sean do to get a question out? Stop inserting yourself into every question
Napoleon is a masterpiece.
So the answer to Sean's question about music was...??? 😅
Totally ignored!
He didn't answer any questions. Not just the music one.
Sir Ridley does it concern you that your new film Napoleon is being criticised for its historical inaccuracies?..
OH I SEE, WERE YOU THERE?
"no Sir, obviously I wasn't there...
OH, OKAY..WELL F#@K OFF THEN!
25:10 gladiator 2

Napoleon gets a lot of shit. I can't wait to watch it. Hope it is Ridley back in form. If not, then I'll pray the 4 hour cut will be.
People are watching half a movie and making a judgement on it. The 4 hour cut will be amazing!
strong
Guys Barry Lyndon…
Greatest movie ever made
Nicolas should played thzt role

I came here for the viral A23 remark
Kevin is so cringe. Ridley is one of the all time greats, and he uses his time with him to kowtow to Christopher Nolan.
Ridley shouldn't be allowed to make historical movies anymore. This movie was hastened too quickly during the story telling, the relationships, and the development of the main character. Not to mention that Phoenix at 49 is playing Napoleon from the transition of a teenager and onto his 20s, which made no sense until much later on at the end. Even the lack of Napoleon's character direction, his behavior and education throughout the years, accents being over and under played, understanding and evolvement from Ridley has made Phoenix limited in his performance.
An immense dumpster fire of Napoleonic Proportions! Truly Ridley Scott's greatest attempt at utter hysterical revisionism! His career-penultimate Waterloo.
Ridley is not big on semantics 😂😂😂
Watched the movie today a little disappointed tbh. Waiting for the director's cut.
85 year old healthy, yet clueless genius. He can crank out highly competent movies. But you should hear him ranting & promoting the jab not long ago, like a child not getting what he wants from others. I'm fascinated he can do the impossible, yet has playground discerning skills (or he was told to say those things, and abided like a fool). His films don't fully connect because it appears he lives in his own echo chamber with the shades pulled. It's frustrating because they are produced premium quality, yet unfulfilling. Reluctant to see this.
Isn't that what we say of most geniuses 😀
19:30 "able to get their streaming films into theater"? Lmao Bruh if anything they're not able to keep their films in theatre cause of these stupid plans
.
Advertising is why Ridley films kind of suck and why they seem like car commercials.
Unfortunately the movie was awful, but I appreciate that he took the time to be interviewed, with a positive attitude.
Ridley scott you have massacred this movie. I have waited all my life to see a napoleon movie but how disgusted I was walking out of this shambles of a movie. Thank god we have “Waterloo 1970 to still watch and lust over.
Blade runner is so dull
He’s had a stroke. I hope he’s ok but he’s had a stroke for sure. His slurred speech, the lisp. Man. I really do hope he’s ok but 100% he’s had a stroke. His speech is just not right at all. I’ve noticed it during this entire press run for Napoleon
does he know his movie sucked?
It’s awful. Do not see it unless you go in expecting a comedy and have zero respect for Napoleon historically. It’s a complete mess of pacing and a hit piece designed to shame and make fun of one of the greatest generals of all time
@@AN-wp6fn Oh trust me I would never bother with a Napoleon film in 2023.
I'm not stupid:D
It didn’t suck. At all. But to each their own.
@@AN-wp6fnlol, a "hit piece".
Disgusting movie. Scott should NEVER be allowed to step foot in France ever again
Ridley has 2 masterpieces (Alien and Blade Runner) and 20 forgettable movies. Some ok such as Gladiator and Prometheus.
20 more movies than you've made.
Gladiator is a MASTERPIECE in my eyes, & I love Prometheus unfortunately the sequel, which I went to watch in cinema because I liked so much the first one, was disappointing...
Oh ye, you forgot to mention The Martian, that movie was amazing, I watch it 3 times till now, one of the best movies I watched the past years.
Movie is trash. Complete joke hit piece. Why even go through all the bother of making a Napoleon film if you’re not going to even try to be objective or curious about the complexities of the character
Kubrick's version would have crushed it.
He shouldnt be braggin bout making this in 60 days. Yea we can tell
He butchered this movie. Way to much joesephine. This movie is supposer to be about NAPOLEAN. And apparently the 4 hour cut has more of her in it. Ridley seems to have purposely butchered this and make napoleon seem like a total cuck. There was none of his military genius shown in any of the battles.
