Is this the system that will allow the vehicle's alternator to charge the Yeti aux battery as you drive, or is that something additional that has to be added? If the former is correct, don't you need a switch of some kind to keep the aux battery from completely draining the vehicle's battery when the vehicle is not running, leaving you without a way to start your van?
That’s why you set it from tank mode to vehicle mode. Vehicle mode only charges the yeti when some minimum voltage threshold is met (say, 13.6 that you would only see when your vehicle is running). Tank mode continuously draws until either the goal zero is full or the charging battery is dead (not good when you rely on your car battery to start the vehicle).

Do you have to change between modes every time you drive?
Nope! Once it's set to vehicle mode, it will stay that way unless it's manually changed again.
