In 1991, Hasbro released their line of Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars action figures. Bucky O'Hare had all the makings to be a mega-hit, designed as a total packaging franchise from the very beginning. Born from a comic, Bucky blasted into the 90's with an animated series, two great video games from Konami, and this line of action figures from Hasbro!
So what happened? How could Bucky fizzle out in just one year? We're exploring the Hasbro toy line, examining what might have happened and looking at what could have been - today on Toysplosion!

Not only were the toys cool, the show was amazing. It had a great message about not letting TV run your life, questioning what big brother told you, and to think for yourself. Giving all 13 episodes a watch is highly recommended.

As a kid I liked the comics but could never get into the cartoon due to the awful animation but last year I gave the show a proper sit down watch and it is a lot better than it gets credit for.

I had all the figures as a kid, and the Willy figure's head DOES turn side to side. I think yours might just be stuck. Also, the Toad Croaker is a 2 man ship. I usually put Deadeye at the front and Bucky manned the rear, thats what the 2 handles are for .

Bucky o hare was one of my absolute favorite cartoons growing up... I had most of the toys and the first 3 vhs tapes... I would constantly rent the other not realizing that was pretty much all the episodes... I was so disappointed to find out there weren’t anymore and was determined to track down everything Bucky I can get my hands on... no only did I get the original toy line in its entirety and(thanks to you dan) most of the boss fight figures as well... in my opinion the show was much deserving of second season and even a third... the amount of world building they were able to do in only 13 episodes is mind blowing to me and would have loved to see a few more characters expanded on as well... sigh oh well....thanks for the great vid as always!!!

Funny thing, the theme song is my main ringtone. I loved the cartoon & my first figure was Bucky. I got him in Canada on a family vacation. For Christmas that year, I got Willy, Bruiser, Al & Dogstar. Since, as you pointed out, some of the lasers didn't fit on the posts, I used the port on the backs of Willy, Bruiser & Al to hold their guns by the handle. Recently, I was able to complete my vintage Bucky collection & started collecting the Boss Fight Studios Bucky Classics. Just saw the prototype for Bruiser & I'm excited to add him & the Toad Troopers to my collection someday. Deadeye is my most favorite character (& most looked-forward-to figure in both toy lines), but I love that Dogstar & Al Negator were voiced by NA He-Man, Garry Chalk!

I always thought that the toys mirrored the characters from the NES game more than the cartoon. Prime example being Toadborg and Blinky. Did Blinky have the rocketpack in the cartoon? The toadboard action figure wasn't nearly as intimidating as his cartoon counterpart.

Thanks for this informative video! I remember this toy line. When I was a kid, I never saw the cartoon (most likely because I didn't have the channel it was airing on), but I definitely saw the commercials. I got so excited by the toy commercials that I asked my mother for a Bucky O'Hare figure. On my Birthday, she got me one, Bucky himself! Surprisingly, it wasn't the figure I enjoyed playing with the most (I had Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, DC and Marvel figures, and a slew of many others). Heck, until this video, I didn't even know that the pegs on his belt were suppose to be for weapon holstering! The only thing I remember was pulling his ears out and seeing if they could fit on any of my other toys. After watching this video, I think I would have had more fun with Dead-Eye.

Much as I am a HUGE fan of TMNT, I do still have a soft spot for good ol' Bucky. As a kid I got several figures and one of the two vehicles for Christmas that year: Bucky, Deadeye, Willy (because he kind resembled me as a kid, so it was as if I was adventuring with Bucky and his crew!), Blinky, Al-Negator, Toad Trooper and the Toad Croaker because I was turned on by that raspberry sound it made when it squashed them in the commercials and I also liked how the bottom of it looked like the sole of a sneaker. Hey, boys will be boys, right? The new action figures look amazing, the folks at Boss Fight should be commended! More recently I acquired a copy of the NES game for my ever growing collection. It cost me a nearly bank breaking $200.00 because it's becoming more difficult to find these days, but it's awesome and highly recommended if you can get your hands on one. Great video Dan, thanks for the nostalgia. 🙂

And of course, no Jenny back then. Just like no Tula and Wednesday Addams.

Its funny, i distinctly remember having a few of these toys as a kid (Bucky, Blinky, Dead eye and i think Bruiser as well) but have no memories of the show at all. I dunno if it was even broadcast here in the UK.

She was set to be released up to the point where early prototypes and boxart was made, but the line was canceled before the wave she was a part of released
