This interview with Sir Patrick was what gave me the courage to shave my head after suffering from Male pattern baldness. I identified so strongly with his own struggle and the insecurity he felt when he lost his hair at 19. Sir Patrick taught me that you could be a confident, strong, masterful man if you just accepted who you were. No more hiding... cut it off.
welcome to the brotherhood :)
Mutant and proud.
I won't do that. Besides, a hair transplant is surprisingly helpful for Men with migraines.
same im 19 , going hella bald , its a scary place to be tbh
A confident man is sexy as hell, with or without hair
"Those days are now past and...I can relish what I have."
What an incredible actor and insightful human being.
Whenever someone laments about how all the true greats are gone, I remind them that we still have Patrick Stewart...and they stand corrected.
Good one
going bald when you're young is horrible I wouldn't mind later on in life but my hair started to go when I was 20 and when people make cruel remarks for a laugh it can be hurtful because its something you have no control over.
well I still have hair all over its just very light on top the scalp is visible and I took pride in my hair I often grew it long and it was very full but now I wear hats all the time, I don't think I would look good bald either. but its gonna happen
I am using an anti hair loss product which name is argan rain .. After using it I started seeing immediate results of less hair loss. I would suggest you use it with pure argan oil.
my dad was bald by his 30th and im going the same way. Sometimes I dont know if I should use Shampoo or Polish ;)
try 16
tunabish ! I actually had it since i was 3 years old, but the hair came and went
This seriously makes me feel so much better, being in the 19 year old Patrick Stewart situation right now
As a 23 year old who has been bald for 3 years I can relate to a lot of this. Losing your hair sucks, especially at a young age, but honestly being bald isn’t that bad and once you get over your insecurity I’ve found you actually become more confident.
Yeah it kinda forces you to be more confident . You're given the option of becoming even more insecure or gaining a lot more confidence.
It's refreshing to hear him being so frank about the whole thing and making fun of himself! He's great.
I met him in Vancouver BC, in my family's store in Gastown. He came in one dull afternoon, dressed as a tourist, and bought two decks of cards, one red one black.
I said: "It's funny I was thinking of watching you playing King Claudius for the BBC just this morning. "
He said: "Well, there you are, you've summoned me!"
Such a lovely man.
This guy's a bit of a king.
God*
Interestingly thousands of years ago chiefs and kings tended to be bald as it was associated with wisdom.
He's not talking what he really thinks
A lot of a king...
He makes me feel allright about my male pattern baldness. 19? damn. I thought I was bad off losing my hair at 25-26
100% same
Gene Roddenberry's retort at 0:23 pwns so hard...
What a powerhouse. He's such an amazing character and person.
Patrick Stewart means alot to me. He reminds me so much of my dad, to the point where I feel that watching TNG when my dad dies would help me through it! Sad I know. I think I'll actually be very emotional when Patrick Stewart dies!
I started going bald in my mid 20s and posted something online about how depressing it was. Somebody posted this video, and honestly it gave me a lot of hope and a lot of heart. Made me feel less alone. I recommend it to others, and come back here to watch it a few times a year. It is incredibly hard for anyone, man or woman to lose their hair, it's literally a part of yourself. But I honestly believe the best way forward is to embrace the hair loss, and to be yourself. I firmly believe "Now you be yourself. No more hiding" is good advice for anyone compensating for a shortcoming, which let's be honest, is most of us. Nothing beats reality, and being honest and confident in your imperfect self IS something people are attracted to. Be YOU.
Patrick Stewart is not only a wonderful actor who carried one of the longest and most succesful TV shows (Star Trek:TNG) for a decade, but he's also a classy and down to earth gentleman.
my dad always says "god only made so many perfect heads, and the rest he covered up with hair"
So glad we can all still relish Sir Patrick Stewart! So many hours of joy he's given us!
I love how Stewart slips into his Yorkshire accent at times :D
Brilliant interview. Doesn’t get interrupted, just let’s him talk. So inspiring. One of my favourite all time videos.
"those days are now past and I can relish what I have"... absolutely! absolutely!!
When I had to shave, this story helped me keep my head held high. Thank you Sir Patrick Stewart.
I remember having a co-worker who had the thinning combover scalp for the longest time, and we all gently encouraged him to trim it because it wasn't having the effect he was hoping. When he finally did, it looked similar to Stewart (bald scalp, crown of hair around the temples) and it looked perfectly fine!
There's no better British actor than him. He's got an incredible voice.
A wonderful actor, one of my favorites...
Gotta love the Patrick Stewart!!! One of my all time favorite actors.
you can hear the Yorkshire in him when he says "you're making it up".
I love patrick stewart, what a class act.
Oh man, can I ever relate to what he's saying. It's great to see how he's been able to deal with it and move on to become such a dignified fellow.
A dedicated gentleman. While performing at the Guthrie (Virginia Wolf) in Minneapolis, he agreed to speak to my middle school theater class, we were in rehearsal Midsummer Nights Dream. Unfortunately the show was demanding and he lost his voice, but called and graciously offered to come when when he returned healthy. He was willing to take time for a group of wonderfully dedicated middle school students! I am very impressed. He had HAIR in Virginia Wolf. He's MUCH better looking bald.
Just went bald today, 12/2/24 at 7:30pm I was free of the worry. A week before my 20th birthday I picked up the shaver and went "now you be yourself, no more hiding" and the rest is history. If you're a young guy losing your hair, shave whilst you're still ahead. Thanks Patrick for giving me the courage to do it.
Sorry to hear that, and thanks for the info.
What a brilliant interview!
OUTSTANDING INTERIEW!! great yt post!!
Yes I was going to say, I heard that unmistakable twang coming through when he was talking! Excellent!
What an amazing man, I love Patrick.
An amazing talent and a great observer 🔭 of life. It's a story we can all relate to no matter how old you are.
I could listen to his voice all day.
I can relish what I have. Beautiful words.
There will never be another like him... the guy has such presence.
Wow . . . to watch such a man who seems so authentially himself. I can only hope that I embrace myself as completely someday as he appears to. It is also gratifying to see that it wasn't natural for him and that it was a progression.
Nice video. BBC is just excellent, and so is Patrick Stewart..
Love Patrick Stewart. Very funny and engaging story teller...
What a solid guy. Must have been horrible to go bald at 19, but he fought for himself and for his career and look what he accomplished. Could have been just a schmuck, but end up the captain!
This is a great video.
hahah what a nice interview. he makes being bald so much less frighting. thank you for that
what a wonderful actor and man!
God...I love his voice, he can read to me all day
AMAZING! That is a show of a lifetime.
LOVE Parkinson and I'm in the U.S., so THANK YOU for this!!
He is so oddly charismatic, it is super human how charismatic he is.
I just adore his accent ... and his voice. He also has a great sense of humour. lol
he's such a wonderful man.
He is so damn delightful. What a light, cool personality! When I grow up, I want to be either Patrick Stewart or James Earl Jones--I can't decide.
what a marvelous person we have in
our friend, Patrick Stewart...
Great to hear that he will soon be Sir Patrick Stewart. He is one of our finest actors and I never thaught anything could be better than Star Trek-TOS but I was wrong! The Next Generation was/is superb and Patrick made Picard real.
Patrick Stewart is the greatest thespian of all time. Long live the King! Long live the King! Wonderful father, great co-worker and all round fine person. He is like a shaft of gold where all around is dark.
THANK YOU!
We ALL Should "RELISH" in what we have. Instead of worrying to much on the have nots....great message.
I think this guy is the best!
one of the manliest voices in the world!
Patrick Stewart has mad swag, i love this man
His voice makes me love the English language even more.
I met Patrick Stewart on wednesday night, such a nice fellow, he porvides good banter too!
Love his accent!
One of my favourite and an entertaining personality... I'm not even a big star trek fan!
I met him in Leeds once when I was working security at a hotel. Couldnt believe I was talking to Patrick Stewart, wont forget it
Its great to see somebody whose lived thru the whole baldness thing. I still wish they would find a cure, but I guess this video would give me a positive outlook, if it ever happens to me.
wow, this comment is 15 years old! how old are you now? and has baldness happened to you yet?
You sir, are awesome!
My favorite actor of all times
this guy is so awesome
his voice is mighty!
love you Sir Patrick!!
What a wonderful actor.
What a voice!
I love Patrick Stewart!
Patrick Stewart is a great Hero!!
Patrick Stewart is the man. I can't believe he ever had a thing about being bald. My friend John Lost his hair at 21 and we all call him Patrick Stewart because he looks just like him.
Seriously though both of them look better bald.
He rocks in Star Trek, Shakes spear, X-men, In Detonator, I could go on and on
"I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I've ruled as Tamriel's Emperor. But for all these years I have never been the ruler of my own dreams..." =)
aww. Thank you!
Brilliant actor and person. And he is in one of my personal favourite films of the last decade, Green Room. \m/ \m/ :)
I loved Patrick Stewart as Picard. He just has that voice that screams authority! Also he did a great job as Uriel Septim on TES: Oblivion. And the episode of Family Guy with the star trek cast was hilarious!
What a legendary man.
I can still make out his West Yorkshire accent like never before. Could be mixing with Parky that brings it out. My mate comes from Barnsley, lived in Mirfield like Stewart, and says I have a BBC accent although it's pretty much 2014 Guiseley and anybody from the South would say I am very broad Northern. I live in Wisconsin (Wiscaaarnsin) now, but as soon as I get off the plane at Manchester and go into Morrison's, I come over all ee by gum and bacon in brown with butter and all in 10 seconds ! That's what happening to Stewart in this interview - accent by association with Parky
best actor in the world i love this man
haha i love this video! Patrick Stewart is the man! :-) I love star trek its great.
Best actor ever
Every man going through baldness should watch this.
Patrick Stewart is a legand!
he's brilliant!
awesome guy, awesome actor.
huge, totally unique presence, something about that guy immediatly makes me like him (other than his incredible work)
I cant even imagine him with hair, some people being bald just fits perfectly!.
I met him once. He came into the shop I worked in in vancouver about 7 years ago. Bought 2 packs of playing cards. One red back and one blue back. He was a wonderful, charming, lovely man. I had a great time chatting with him.
Mr. Parkinson and Mr. Stewart are so cool
I love this man, I could listen to him read the phone book. And pay him to do it.
great story
a true legand I am a big fan of the next generation
When you reach max level, you stop leveling.
Well this happened in the late 50's so probably not the best time to lose your hair to be honest. People are much more open minded now. But I wish he had known back then how much recognition he'd get and that this really was no biggie at all. Now he's over 70 for gods sake and still handsome as f*ck. He hasn't aged one bit, partly due to the fact he lost his hair such a long time ago.
Wasn't better in the 90s
such a lovely man
I met him once, what an honor :)
I like his accent, its distinct and clear.
