- The basis for this Harpsichord Concerto in A major, BWV 1055, was probably a concerto for oboe d’amore, as suggested by the key and the fact that it is only really the right hand of the harpsichord that plays concertante. Apart from Bach himself, listeners at the time it was written would probably not have known that the solo instrument was originally an oboe. And if you had not read this, you might not have suspected it either.

So many times when I hear Bach I am under the impression that we all long for a better country where love, justice and dignity are present on daily basis ...
Its so great and satisfying to the ear to hear that much from the string bass. Something that i always want more from in other recordings
Awww as a double bassist reading that makes me happy. I agree!
Yes yes yes! To me it’s the backbone of the piece. I enjoy it immensely. And the players always look like they’re enjoying themselves so much!

Grote lijnen, miniaturen, anticipatie, rubato's zó verschrikkelijk mooi,
as luisteraar kun je er helemaal
inkruipen en speel je elk instrument mee.
DANK U !!
@@user-su7ij6ow8f Man kann ihn auch schneller spielen.
is ma non troppo
The Dutch are the very best Bach interpreters i have ever come across, they seem to always play bach so natually, i heard the first performance of Bachs christmas oratorio in the westerkirch in Amsterdam and left me absolutely spellbound, they really are the champions of bach performance, yet bach never visited Amsterdam, he never left his native Germany!
Corti, the harpsichordist in this NBS performance, is Italian. Sato, the NBS concertmaster/solo violinist, is Japanese. The conductor/harpsichordist in the NBS performances of the concertos for 3 harpsichords is Danish. Many of the singers in the NBS performances of Bach's cantatas are not Dutch.
@@herrickinman9303 NBS basically comes from all over the world
So true that the Netherlands are a wonderful home place for Bach’s music.
Agree totally with you.....I am from Baghdad Iraq.
Some of the best harpsichord interpretations I have ever heard come from Italian harpsichordists such as Mr. Corti here.
A brilliant performance of another of Bach’s brilliant compositions. Exuberance in the outer movements; delicate sensitivity in the middle. And Corti’s smile at the end of the first captures the pleasure of the musicians wonderfully.
Yup, I caught that too.
I've only just discovered the wonderful sound that comes from the harpsichord... Beautiful.
nice pfp
Grazie Francesco! Dio ti Benedica! 💘
The relaxed interpretation given here is most refreshing.
Yes, I loved the bass, that I could hear it loud and clear: it adds so much texture to the music. It has become a new kind of music. Thanks so much to the Society for the great music and video.
Again the Netherland Bach Society did the best perfomance of a masterpiece I have ever heard.Keep making the world happy with this music from J.S.Bach. Best wishes from Hamburg/Germany.
Once again, thank you!
Wonderful!
I woke up this morning with the allegro ma non tanto going through my head (without a number), but I had the reconstructed 1055r oboe concerto by Heinz Holliger. I played a bit and then realized that it wasn't quite as baroque in style as I had been hearing from the NBS.
Here I am again, listening to Mr. Corti doing the 1055. Now soon, some coffee!
The third movement is my favourite, it has everything!!! Beautiful performance!!!
Yep, I believe your favorite part of that movement starts from 10:18 ? I really love that part...
Try the Oboe d’amore version by Christian Hommel (not saying one is better than the other). Glorious!
What a wonderful performances! Thank you for sharing! This pure Bach's music is the only joy in this crazy world...
Aldous Huxley in Eyeless in Gaza (I think) says much the same thing.
My favorite Bach Concerto so admirably performed with such flair and gusto. Thank you. I also enjoyed hearing the string bass and added continuo. I love the briskness and velocity of the outer movements!
This is my favourite Bach concerto as well. It's one of the most melodic concertos that I've by him. And yes the outer movements are amazing, I literally headbang to them because of how catchy they are.
@@humanbeing4841 haha "headbang"! especially the third movement for me!
I love all the Concerti, but this too is my favorite. The Finale is simply out of this world.
@mosheknoll1603 I agree with you. It's an endless expression of joy.
Beautiful performance! Everyone sounds relaxed and free and at the same time energetic, the music really breaths and lives
What’s The Rush ? This is Music To Be Savored .
Absolutely beautiful and totally first class playing I loved it
Magnifique
Et quel charmant claveciniste
As a channel centered around Bach compositions I wonder how much longer this channel would last before running out.
...yea, probably a long time.
it would run forever...
Still enough work to do! So far we have recorded just over 300 Bach works (in the last six years) out of the 1080 works in total. Making these kind of recordings takes a lot of time and money, you can help us to complete All of Bach via www.bachvereniging.nl/en/support-allofbach
Doing all of Bach's 246 cantatas would already be a gigantic task.
I'm sure there are still quite a few cantatas that have never been recorded before which would make it even more interesting.
Even the Chopin Institute channel occasionally puts out non-Chopin programs
Bach is for ever and given the virtuosity of these wonderful musicians people will never get tired of listening and following them....
Fantastic, planning to play the 1055R oboe d’amore version of this.
A lot of pleasure to consume in this video...thanks to the greatest composer of all time. The players, individually and communally, showing their obvious pleasure in every Bachian phrase, mood and passion. Monsieur Corti's phrasing is quite amazing...enough time taken to really shape particular passages, without mannerisms or overuse. A special, live performance, again...wow. Now, hit "replay", and enjoy the, "Old Wig", further.
"Signor Corti" would be more accurate ;-)
I completely agree -one of the things I appreciate most about NBS is how the musicians seem to be enjoying themselves, the material, and each other. Art in its superior form: as an act of love.
Ah, d- I would...I love c- consti- consuming so much 🥺
In my opinion the greatest works of JSB of all his masterpieces are the Cembalo Concerti. He must have loved playing the Harpsichord! I like your speed and the dynamics,... btw. Works really ONLY with the Harpsichord!!
the only way to get rid of a temptation is to give in to it. My temptation is Bach!!
Enhorabuena y gracias por aportar tanta belleza. Un regalo para los oídos.
Wonderful!
Bravo Francesco👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Excellent interpretation and performance. And superbly recorded as well. Kudos to all! :-)
Really great performance!!!
Bravo, maestro!
Ultra-Mega-Super-Fantastic!! Thanks!!!!!!!!
Beautiful
¡FELICITACIONES!❤💛💚💙💜🌝⚘
just beautiful!
Wow, really nice acoustics for this performance.
Once upon a time I thought on the possibility of a positive organ playing together with the cello and violone the continuo part. Now I realized that there's another harpsichord for the continuo part: my opinion is that, like one blind chess pupil I had many years ago, they "did correctly their homework". Congratulations to everyone!
There are many fine performances that our choice often pivots on the particular recording.
The more I study Bach, the more I wonder how harpsichord players heads keep from exploding. How on earth can you read so many notes at such speed? It's almost supernatural. I don't think I could even register the highs and lows as fast as yall can probably scan the whole sheet. Had toy pianos in the cradle maybe and never stopped playing? Well, I admire the skills.
Sound is unbeatable!
Amazing ..... thanks ❤
wow. love this
Extremely well!
Corti's technique really is top notch 😊
Belíssimo!
Excellent
Fantástico!!
Bravo!!!!

Remarkable!
Great playing and excellent tempo!
Danke!
Gracias desde, Argentina; Sociedad Bach😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤
很棒
I see a 2nd Harpsichord which adds a nice texture, delicious sound.
4:03 That pleased look!
simplemente bach
How do I tell Francesco Corti that I want to marry him? Not just for his good looks and amazing personality but also because of his incredible talent. *Sigh. The world is not fair. Oh, and the music was great too. lol Long live Bach!

👏👏👏👏👏
I'm playing BWV 1055R Violin version on my 5 String Cello after I restring it.
I've always thought this was Bach's most joyful opening allegro, edging out those in the 1053 and 1061. Any other competitors?
The first ones that come to mind are BWV 1047, 1048 & 1050
Is this considered a complicated piece of music...I have no background in music except the church choir as a boy but I have appreciation for fine music,Enjoyed thank you
OVER HERE! I can’t tell because I’m not a harpsichordist. However, if you watch the harpsichordist’s interview, he says that the piece is not very difficult and it’s very fun to play.

0:23 He's lush!
Is Siebe Henstra playing the continuo on the harpsichord?
Original violins/viola placement, isn't it?
00:09
10:18 You are welcome!
May someone tell me who is the Asian lady violinist in the video? Thank you!

@@bach Thank you!
has the concert been pitched down? What I'm listening to is in A flat, not A
I assume they are using Baroque pitch, which is usually 415Hz, as opposed to "modern pitch", which is 440Hz😊
Good performance but the camera angles and work shows unfamiliarity with these works and who to focus on.
4:06 somber
the violin played slightly high.
Do you want a spot of tea?
Since it was originally intended for oboe😪..... Maybe record that perhaps
You mean oboe d'amore, not oboe. However, oboe d'amore as the original solo instrument is merely a proposition, not a fact. Other instruments have been proposed, including organ and viola d'amore.
Nope. Just a "reconstruction" for Oboe d'amore. I will play it, though.
No veo el clavecin.
A concerto for harpsichord with another harpsichord in the continuo?
That's right: one harpsichord in the continuo part and the other as cembalo concertante.
yes, the continuo line can be played by another harpsichord or one lute, ore guitar too
Muestren más el clavecin. 😀🎶🎶
Crikey volume is deafeningly loud.
Is the Netherlands Bach society for J.S. Bach alone or does it commemorate other members of the Bach family such as C.P.E.
The Netherlands Bach Society also performs other repertoire from the seventeenth or eighteenth century, as well as music which has a link with Johann Sebastian Bach in any way. For our project All of Bach we record all works by Johann Sebastian Bach and publish them on czcams.com/users/bach
@@bach that is such an audacious and worthwhile goal. I hope this succeedes and eventually branches out to other forms of social media somehow, bringing more attention to Bach's work from younger audiences...
A bit to fast in my opinion but great tone all around
The first and third movement are a bit much and I got really fatigued by them. I never understood the need to fill up every space with sound. The larghetto was a welcoming relief. Still, wonderful execution!
Fast tempos are hard on the elderly, I understand.
@@herrickinman9303 hahaha, I'm 38...
I have to learn how to love Baroque because I need to play a Bach Partita for my exams but damn I find it boring. Someone of you great people who can appreciate it, please help me see what's so great about it :/
It's proabably because you're not used to the language.
Mabe try listening multipile times to some of Bach's famous and easier to understand pieces, my favorites at first were Chacone, Passcaglia and French suite no2.
@@progressivelife Thank you, I will!
Try to listen to fugues, especially "The well-tempered clavier", with headphones in darkness (maybe in bed) and try to sort the voices apart. Follow one or another in your mind. Then you learn to appreciate polyphony.
It should be noted that bach was quite an unusual composer for the time so his music isn't the best example of baroque
