- I used to spend a lot of time , maybe I still do documenting the every day life of the Upper West Side where I've been living for over 45 years now. See if you spot someone you know.
The footage was shot during the analog era with a Hi8 Video tape camera.

Dude u straight creep mode out there
Right? Only filming women, without their knowledge, zooming in on the butts...this guy def had a porn addiction and no gf
As it should be. Bros
@@Richard_Rojas uh…no…
@@Richard_Rojas You’re disgusting
It's kinda weird how old this feels and how at the same time we are seeing people that are all alive today
I remember these days i was a teen and we survived without cell phones and facebook. Its sad todays kids couldnt make it
was a kid in the 90s. best time to be a kid, just my opinion
That would be the 80s in my opinion!
Blu was a kid in the 80s and Teen in the 90s.... awesome Time
No doubt
all the years until 2010 were great
@@scx619, But what about the years 2009 or 2008 or 2007? Did those years ever existed to you? And what about the early 2010s? This was when the smartphones that we have now weren't as affordable compared to today. They only started to become affordable in around the year 2012 or so at the very most which was around two years into the 2010s. So with this in mind (or at least in my mind anyway) what's your opinion on the early 2010s or just the years 2010 to 2013 in general at least for you?
Face to face talking & socializing. Paying attention to what was going on around you. Meeting friends and having fun. Now the world is all about "selfies", social media & friends lists....pathetic.
just wait another 10 years, no interactions what so ever with augmented reality
And being able to view old footage of New York, and share our negative opinions of the current social trends.
Pathetic
We've been digtalized in fully automated society. Children dont even have stuff animals anymore
Disgusting....
@@danadoe8137 yes I do
Yes it was a time nobody had cell phones in the streets.Oh I miss when people look at each with there head up instead of down like it is today...lol
People seemed to care more about eachother....
Imagine working at a hole-in-the-wall bar on this busy street, and you feel the summer breeze waft in, the car noises and shuffling of people. Jazz is playing from a radio, with shitty quality, but you think it's great. You bought a house and put your kids to school, all with your bartender job.
We can all go back to those days just by getting rid of your smartphone.
I had just turned 11 when this was filmed. I remember these fashions well. miss those days.
I had turned in 11
Winter Harris how old are yu now
Now you’re 37
Notice how everyone has their head pointed forward instead of facing down towards their phones. Life was real and genuine. Now everything is a facsimile of something else. Everything is merely simulated instead of directly experienced. Almost every aspect of our lives is digitally translated and fed back to us, completely absent of its most subtle and important characteristics. The world in which we now reside is increasingly wrought with a counterfeited human experience, saturated by the indelible vestiges of a hollowed spirit carried by the dissolving echoes of a nostalgic time long since passed into the annals of a deleted history.
People were always as mindless as they are today. The phones just make it visible. Nothing was different in the past.
I can tell this was recorded the first week of July 1995.
I managed to check out the headline from one of the newspapers hanging on the rack which I identified as (The National Enquier) and 'Googled' the results.
The headline featured a story about Connie Chung adopting a baby boy.
12 years ago?? Where are you now?
@@matammaram9295 Still here, Just a dozen years older. ;-)
@@DarkCloak wow !! Haha time flies
👏🏾👏🏾
I absolutely Love this video! This video is amazing I was 12yo turning 13 that winter,
This was great!
Aside from creepily filming women like objects, this was a cool piece of the past
Creepy
Lol all this guy did was film women. One near the very beginning at a pay phone looked legitimately terrified of him and rightly so
@@cockoroach yeah she probably had mental health issues because if someone is pointing a camera in your general direction and your first reaction is to feel terror there is something seriously wrong with you.
Agreed
Yeah seriously... I can’t overlook it
Extremely creepy.
Born 1980 grew up in government residences in Pakistan which still used furniture from 1960's America. I long for an era I had no business in being.
I have to say, it is odd not seeing a single cell phone out and and people with their heads down watching this. People are a lot more attentive
It was simple, but also not as much for people around the world. While this video captures a time where intrusive technology was rare, it's nice to have some nostalgia.
Even if you could afford one back then, there probably wasn’t much reason to use it frequently during your day unless it was for business or something.
this is just straight up creepy bro
half the girls looked genuinely frightened when they saw him. He must’ve gotten some nasty looks even from dudes on the street
What if we decided to go back to the direction of no technology? Maybe it would change our psychology as a collective consciousness and depression would not existe..
True indeed
Bro depression is part of human nature
Look closely at and around the 3:47 marker. You can see a headline off of the paper that features "Connie Chung Adopts A Baby Boy". The scene transitions quickly but if you freeze it at the right place, you can make enough of it out.
I took the headline and looked on Google for match up. I found that the event dates to early July 1995 or perhaps the week before.
Good eye!
I was only a year old. I can’t say I ever truly knew the garden of these years...but I caught the scent and saw hints of the vibrant colors... as the final roses wilted.
I was lucky enough to see it, never got to take it too much for granted as I was still learning to understand the world as I was still learning how to see it all.... I lived though...I lived in the time when it all died.
I lived to get a taste... of a world that had flavors.
I lived to miss a time I didn’t get to fully embrace.
This finale of humanity...was a hint of how beautiful the world could be...a beauty that the world couldn’t always be.
@@mw9688 Very eloquently stated. To tell the Truth, I was 24 in 1995 and upon reflection, THAT year was the last year i can honestly say I felt was of my own "Halcyon Days". It seemed to be poised between a somewhat idyllic past and a hopeful future. Not perfect - But nothing that followed it seemed to hold the same unbridled optimism and great expectation of my own youthful period as that brief moment in time did.
@Jayden Loader Indeed I am.
@Jayden Loader I'd have to say 1994 was a very big year for me personally also - My best friend from childhood passed away in the beginning of it but I went in search of adventure to try to change my perspective and worked in Yellowstone National Park that summer which led to many new friends and more travels and adventures. I often look back on how that year was just before the internet took off and all of the things that followed, fundamentally changing reality in ways never foreseen. Technology really took off right after that time, for better and for worse as well as the turmoil of world events at the beginning of the 21st century. In hindsight, 1994 seems quaint and like a long lost friend to me. And oh yes, the music was much better also. :-)
The music is certainly in character with the image of NYC. Sounds nice. I am also quite happy with your subject matter. However, I should point-out that it's 3450 miles away from here.
90's The Best Fashion!
People had more natural character and definition. Men had alot more masculine definition, women had feminine definition.
Wow! Beautiful “shampoo commercial style” hair at 1:22! 😻🔥
OMG look at the people looking forward... Girls were beautiful back then...
Back when only the rich could own cell phones
I remember these days...damned if we knew who was calling...and nine times out of ten the caller was someone you didnt want to talk to....man i love technology....
Crazy seeing people standing at a pay phone looking for change and writing things down on paper.
4:10 Gawd, those cassette Walkmans WERE huge, weren't they?
Compared to what? I remember them being quite small..
+TheRailwaystationist They were small but kinda bulky. I had one that had a clip to hang onto my pants.
I miss those days. I hate cell phone becuse they've beendestroying our Gray matter.
Is it Coltrane the music?
emotiiooon
What year were these NYC street scenes made? Young ladies in mini skirts but modern taxis and everyone looks very up to date, without cell phones. Could it be maybe the mid '90s?
95
This is before I was born 🤣
babe reel
They are so akwardly looking at each other because there was no phone yet to concentrate on
Am I watching the past video recordings of a serial killer looking for his next victim?🤨
I used to live on 86th and Broadway, you know, The Belnord Building
What year was this video completed?
1995 it says in title. plus the fashion is definitely 95 lol
This would be considered "harassment" these days, random dude filming random people doing random things. Good ol' days
ngl this video would be hella creepy without the calm music. He’s genuinely stalking random women like wtf
Everybody was free
NO SMARTPHONES
I thought this was beautiful
The right music for New York City
So many pay phones! That’s 1995 for ya!
4:27. Insane
I thought that before cell phones people just stood in place t posing not knowing what to do.
LOL...perhaps if I were alive at the time, who knows? ;-)
this is creepy as shit
Cigarettes and pay phones 😅 what a time to be
This dude was just perving on chicks haha
Anyone see George Bush?
LOL - Yes, that newsstand holds a wealth of information. Especially love the shot when the chick reads the headlines on the New York Times, surrounded by the Gay 'rags.... Playgirl, Mandate... Let's not forget Al Goldstein's SCREW! :)
CreepTV 😂😂
this gay being creepy makes me feel less creppy even tho i'm creepy af
as someone 48 years old I find all the whining hilarious, especially the youngsters who get all poetic and nostalgic about 1999! hahaha funny as all hell
you know what's up
George Bush @ 3:35
Is this some pervert serial killer movie ????
Im sorry you feel this way. Back in the day I was just filming people walking around. There hours of other men, women and kids talking with me about the news and other topics. Please don't feel bad towards me and sorry if I hurt your feelings. Now looking at it its part of a world without cell phones and people in every day life. Sorry you feel this way. Also sorry for getting back to you late.
@@tvdays how old were u. What was your age then
How has life been since?
@@tvdays you don’t have to apologize, this video is amazing, thanks for sharing #uws native 1982 baby
People literally had nothing to do half the time. Not being up on world events, not being able to rapidly communicate, it’s like someone shut off all your senses to the world. I would not go back ever
how about ravers raged against the Ban nightlife in England that had to be dope
how about creating internet
I would go back any day and kill myself before smartphones xd
THERE WERE TV. Ppl could go home and watch TV for world events. How old were u btw
And having regular cell phones vs. Smartphones
Are we just ignoring this guy films only beautiful young women? Weird and creepy
only filming women.. wtf
Well in the 90s men were allowed to like women and as crazy as it sounds they could even find them attractive!
@@Jake-rh7yy yes there’s one thing being attracted to or appreciating women’s beauty but the zooms on the body’s are a little excessive, and some of these women look uncomfortable. Still an awesome video and super important shots but there’s a pretty big pattern here. Just pointing out that you can tell some of these ladies don’t want to be filmed, and the video is like 98% women.
@@Jake-rh7yy I appreciate the video though and my original comment may have not given off that vibe, but this just slightly creeps me out.
Well you seem rational so I can agree with you on that. They did look uncomfortable now that I look at it. Just seems alot of women have taken it too far.
Public phones and notepads literally notepads.... Probably a bunch of people with phone numbers writing in there hands los...
Ugh, women women women everywhere, had to stop watching... My girl allergy is REAL!
interestingly he only focus on women lol
when he showed the female mannequins i almost lost my shit
