in this video ill show you the difference between yarrow a highly useful plant for survival medicinal purposes and poison hemlock one of the deadlest plants in america
I can't believe that you have over 1500 views on this video and only 12 thumbs up. I would have given a dozen thumbs up if CZcams would let me. Good job.
Thank you for making this video! I'm learning on my own about plant medicine and l was wondering about what was the confusion all about when it came to identifying the difference between Yarrow and Hemlock! I see now that its common sense! Yarrow leaves look like feathers and Hemlock leaves look more like a furnace! 🙏😊❤👍
Great job! This is the first video I viewed on the these two plants and I view it frequently as a refresher. Thanks man. I will sub you now and will look forward to any other vids you may have. Very well done.
New Sub here .. Thankyou .. So helpful .. Im in NZ, I asked my aunty if she had any yarrow seeds.. She showed me what yarrow was and lo and behold, the stuffs growing on my lawn .. I was ecstatic.. watching this vid confirms to me that ive got it right. Thankyou again
I remember some guy who mistook hemlock for queen Anne's lace in Oak Creek canyon,Az. I'm told the queen Anne's lace smells like carrots, but hemlock never does. I can see similarity in the leaves of those, but clear difference from the yarrow. The flowers of the yarrow and the hemlock resemble each other, but queen Anne's lace flower is more symmetrical and easily distinguished from the others.
I've only seen line drawings and not so good photography of osha plants, but, these two plants in the vid are similar. I wonder if you have access to osha plants as well, maybe you could show a video on that if you wouldn't mind. never the less, your vid was great and very helpful. thanks.
Hello there , great info , clearly explained , it could save someone's life i'am just trying to learn about wild plants for medicinal use and to eat so thanks for sharing ️atb martin
Yep.And yarrow makes a very good tea.Good against cough.I drink it every year starting at fall and through the winter.Nice video.People loosing these skills nowdays
Question please I have heard of Hemlock but it was years ago . is it native to central Texas? Is it rare? why do we not hear about this plant more I live in central Texas I have a few acres and we have our share of weeds, here's a comment-- even though this video was posted a few years ago I can still save a life -Thank you for posting it.
Thank you . so many of my friends will be walking a handle just any weed or even make a tooth pick. And I knew what yarrow looked like but wasn't sure on hemlock.
informative video but i want to know what state you live in......i don't think there is poison hemlock in Colorado......so knowing where you are videoing this from is helpful to me. thanks.
No but wild carrot does usually have one in the middle. dig it up and smell the root if it smells like a carrot your good to eat it. But always positively I'd any plant you plan on eating.
I stupidly ate yarrow without thoroughly knowing how to identify it and then when I got home I kinda started freaking because I wasn't sure if I'd accidentally eaten hemlock or yarrow. This video was a big help, thanks!
i gave ya a thumbs up. another thing yarrow has a unique smell. poison hemlock smells kind of like a dead mouse.also though the umbels are shaped similar, the yarrow flowers actually look a lot different if you compare the two.
You don't have to use poisons, they end up in our water supply, and the poisons are worse for us than hemlock. Please do a research on Monsanto before you do anything.
You can take a gallon of water and mix a pound of salt and something to increase the PH like vinegar and it will make a natural weed killer and you will find it cheaper then most and better for the environment too. If its about pests like insects and not weeds at all, try creating some biodiversity to your property. Do some research on the pest and find his greatest foe, attract this foe with its necessities plants or habitat's. It allows you to thrive without needing to do much but balance for all is best.

yarrow v hemlock = easy... angelica v water hemlock = pretty tricky ... osha v hemlock exceedingly difficult.

What about when hemlock is smaller? Should we only use yarrow that flowers, is this a good way to avoid hemlock?

Eccentric Nature lol I was caught up explaining the plant and for whatever reason touched it
@@coydogoutdoors Hehe! That makes total sense. :)

Does Yarrow or the Poison Hemlock have a tiny purple flower in the middle of the white flowering top?
No but wild carrot does usually have one in the middle. dig it up and smell the root if it smells like a carrot your good to eat it. But always positively I'd any plant you plan on eating.
@@coydogoutdoors Hi Thank you! I found it in my book. Also called Queen Anne's Lace Daucus Carota

any time
Is Yarrow the plant (when dead and dry) that has those sticky things that get on your clothes?
lol no its not
Is there more look alike beside these two?
Thanks :-)
rhaven50 no problem thanks watching
thanks just making sure I don't poison myself.
+Kate Moore lol its a good thing to do
You werent clear which one which what! So the first ones yarrow??? Had to fast forward to understand what i was looking at
Does yarrow have more than one color flower?
yes their are other but ive only seen white and yellow growing in the wild
Pas moyen d'avoir les vidéos en français svp?
Why are you not using gloves? It gives the impression that it safe to touch it.
poison hemlock looks like small tree, where as the yarrow is small and grows in plain fields
Achillea millefolium (yarrow) the name says it all mille- or lot of folium -leaves
Try sage you have to dry it
I stupidly ate yarrow without thoroughly knowing how to identify it and then when I got home I kinda started freaking because I wasn't sure if I'd accidentally eaten hemlock or yarrow. This video was a big help, thanks!
glad i could help out be careful
your crazy for even touching it!
yeah thats why i warn against doing so and give instructions on if you do touch it
Why not put them side by side? Or put their pictures side by side? And pinpoint their differences?
you can tell it YARROW by simply pulling the plant the root is wild carrot🥕 and smells like carrot 🥕
you seem like you know your stuff but i dont see how those two plants look anything alike what so ever
usually its the flowers that throw people off they look very similar thanks for taking the time to watch
Don't touch it!!!
i gave ya a thumbs up. another thing yarrow has a unique smell. poison hemlock smells kind of like a dead mouse.also though the umbels are shaped similar, the yarrow flowers actually look a lot different if you compare the two.
+River rat very true thanks for leaving some more good info
yarrow rhymes with narrow and arrow and sparrow and every other word in english spelled -arrow.... why does literally everyone pronounce it wrong
it doesnt matter how you say it as long as you know how to use it and how to rell the bad from the good
no but i can still be annoyed by it
lol very true but is squigoo a word
why does figuratively everyone use the word 'literally' wrong?
@@brianzero5629 hahaha
yeah. just tell me a plant is deadly, I'll keep distance. If by where I live, spray weed killer.
