I have a more funny story about these bastards:
Last night I was walking my dogs. Clowning in our town has become a norm over the last week. So when I crossed into the park over by a street light I saw one of these freaks. I started whistling, but I just started running at him instead, I wasn't going to really attack, just see what he'd do. So he actually started to run away from ME. He ran off into the woods and I laughed basically the whole way home.

My sisters were born in the 80s and were about 7/8ish when the original It came out. So they were terrified of clowns for a bit just based on the trailers (I'm not sure if they ended up watching it at the point, my oldest sister was a Stephen King fan though). And one time at a carnival, my mom tried to pay one of the facepainting clowns to sneak up on my sisters and go 'hey kids, wanna play?' in the Pennywise voice.
